Title: Sims 1 Booty
Post by: Bella the Paysite Slayer on 2008 July 24, 17:28:45
No, I'm not requesting TS1 booty on PMBD.  That would be wrong. ;D  However, a fairly new site, CTO Sims, seems to be fufilling a similar purpose, having a huge collection of TS1 (and only TS1) files from paysites and dead sites.  Here's the link for those interested:  http://ctoccasions.com/ (http://ctoccasions.com/)

I highly recommend this place to any pirates here that still play TS1 (or are thinking about returning to TS1).  However, you must register to access the files, and it's membership by approval.  Plus, you'll have to make a few posts and wait a few days to be able to access all of the files (many are accessible upon first registering).  So, yeah, it's not exactly a TS1 version of PMBD, but it's probably the closest thing there is to one.

Happy Simming, whether w/ TS1, TS2, or both. ;)

Thanks for the link. I'll add it to the FAQ, for when people come here looking for TS1 booty.

BTW- for those interested in Sims 1 stuff, Spiffy Sims is closing on Aug. 1 and they have an extensive sims 1 section still.  They also have Sims2 stuff but knowing how difficult it is to find and abundant amount of sims 1 stuff I though I would pass this news along.  Get it while you can.

www.spiffysims.com

Have fun.

ETA-punctuation is not my friend today.

Ooh thanks guys. I'm after Egyptian outfits, and the only decent ones are paysite ones. Finally, something similar to PMBD for TS1!

what concerns me is the fact they're closing.. Can someone maybe contact the Saving of the Sims people and get them to retain their TS1 stuff?

edit: dammit, I just checked and they're closed too.. I need to contact Boo and find out what's going on with that.

And about spiffy sims, has she uploaded her sims 2 stuff elsewhere? Like MTS2 or the graveyard? There's no infos on her site, only that she's closing. Okay MTS2 may refuse her stuff, but the graveyard would keep it.

I am personally happy to host the Sims 1 stuff if Boo's not around anymore. It bugs me seeing so much of it dissapear to bloody TSR. But we can maybe see if we can get a hold of Boo and see if she'll help..

I mentioned this news over at CTO, and the admin. over there agreed to host Spiffy Sims' TS1 files once they closed. :)

;D that's really good.. It's really nice to see someone still taking care of the Sims 1 players, they're a bit of a neglected bunch these days.. And considering I'm not getting Sims 3, it'll happen to me too.

Title: Re: Sims 1 Booty
Post by: SoggyFox on 2008 July 26, 21:59:24
Unless I get a pleasant surprise and Sims 3 is not just texture modding, I'll still be playing Sims2 as well.  And I sometimes play sims1, I just don't really use custom content - I just play with what's there and the magic fruitcake....I only play to play with making magic anyway.

We won't be neglected as long as we don't lose interest as players and creators. That is when a community dies out, when people no longer give a damn and drift away.

Hello, all - I'm the owner of CTO Sims, and I appreciate the good words!  We welcome any like-minded Sims 1 pirates, and we have over 9000 files with more coming in every day, after only 5 months of existence.  We are trying to focus on providing the "unavailable" Sims 1 files - if it's not available for free on its original site, we either have it or we want it!  It's a very active site, with a lot of good fun along with the files to download.

We are all ready to start uploading Spiffy Sims as soon as they close, and it looks like we will have their entire collection.

Yes, we do make you jump through a minor hoop before you can access ALL the goodies, but I promise it's very small and no flames or water hazards are involved!  We just felt that we had to put a few restrictions on membership after suffering through two drama storms (started by other forums) in our first couple of months.  We are not as tough or battle scarred as the good folks at PMBD...

I'm still working on getting all of my sims 1 files consolidated, it didn't help that the laptop they're on decided to have the screen bork out on me... I'm down to a gig with no repeats and have the AOL items, too... I will see what I can do in the near future for you, and for the people at Sims Cave.

*nostalgia* Wow i had so many CC in Sims 1, i'm a download whore ;D I even had rabbit CC invasion in a lot of lots lol I must have 2 printed totally full CDs with tested and organized stuff and i still have untested leftovers on my HDs :P

Water balloons, now there's an idea!  We already have a hot tub in which one of our members is forever chasing down a chicken to throw on the barbie, so maybe she should just throw a few water balloons at it...

I think I'll stock up a few to throw at nasty paysite owners or weasels from forums that hate "sharing"!

What does it take to get Sims 1 to run on Vista?
How about on Ubuntu?
Sims 1 was uglier than Sims 2, but was still great fun to play and much more customizable.

We have some members who are running Sims 1 on Vista with no trouble.  But apparently some of the other related programs don't work so well...

I wouldn't touch Vista with a 10-foot pole, so I can't speak from personal experience.

I've also got the original file maid, the helper and the file cop. All of them are handy as hell to use. Wish we had a version of file cop for Sims 2... It would blow up on the TSR shit, though...

I so agree, i like the file maid. Wasn't there a face studio and file cop as well? I liked their eclusive content for the game as well......*misses playing, may install them, i so miss the newby family LOL*

Title: Re: Sims 1 Booty
Post by: jmrcrp on 2008 July 29, 17:41:17
Yes, there are a LOT of programs still out there for Sims 1.  File Cop, the Maid, the SimEnhancer programs (which I couldn't live without), the many programs from Blueprint, etc.  The old standbys are still the best.  The ones from Maxis - they suck as much as they ever did.  Like the Sims creator (which lets you create new heads - when it doesn't crash).

Speaking of TSR, we have a "special situation" there.  In general, we don't have any files that are free and easily available on the web.  But TSR is the exception.  They have gobbled up so many old Sims 1 sites, and we know they are doing "something" to their files - it appears there are trackers, just as with their Sims 2 files.  When you download a file from TSR and look at the .iff files inside the .zips, lo and behold the .iffs are dated with the exact time and date you downloaded.  When you are getting a file that you know was created in 2002 but the file date is 7-27-08, you know there is something fishy going on.  Fortunately many of our members are contributing original files, so we don't have to mess with TSR-mutants.  Why the hell they bother doing it with files that they are giving away for free, I have no idea.  Just another example of their fantasy omnipotence, I guess.

Most of us seem to spend more time organizing and collecting files than we do actually playing.  Is that also true with Sims 2, or do you folks find more time to play the game?

Maybe the difference is that you don't feel the panicked need to grab whatever you can while it is still available...

Title: Re: Sims 1 Booty
Post by: liegenschonheit on 2008 July 29, 20:43:16
I think that quite a few people in the sims 2 community do spend the majority of their time downloading, organizing, and editing their downloads, as well as going to forums to talk about the game rather than actually spend a whole lot of time playing it.

Weird, isn't it?

Title: Re: Sims 1 Booty
Post by: Pooki on 2008 July 29, 22:34:51
I will sometimes go a couple of weeks or more without playing and then I will get that urge and start to play for days and not be online much at all.  One of those urges are starting to nag at me this week too.   ;D  Of course it could have something to do with a downloading spree I went on today...

Title: Re: Sims 1 Booty
Post by: Dr House on 2008 July 30, 02:03:35
Me too, i'll spend weeks without playing, only downloading, SimPEditing, classifying, choosing what i'll add to my game. Talk about it, ask for mods or whatnot. Then i'll play for several successive days. Rince and repeat. Exactly like pooki. But it's parlty because 1) i'm a download whore 2) the game has now become sometimes a bit boring, so when i play i tend to only build or set up things and shops 3) I'm waiting for the Apartments EP, i awaited that for years! wantwantwantwant :P

"Maybe the difference is that you don't feel the panicked need to grab whatever you can while it is still available..." Yup: as a download whore i download everything i like during downloading spree but when it passes... I don't have the urge to grab stuff, i'll just bookmark it for the next download spree :P There where only 2 particular things i hunted down like craze and finally got them, so all is fine ;D

Title: Re: Sims 1 Booty
Post by: calalily on 2008 July 30, 06:51:36
I download, go to forums and make stuff - mainly because I can have it in lots of windows, all while doing something else.  I can also get up and walk away for a while without pausing and saving.  So I don't play nearly as much as I involve myself with the sims in other ways.

I do still download something I want when I first see it - too many drama llamas who pull it, people who can't pay for hosting, or just plain old forget.  If I like it, I download it before it's gone.

Title: Re: Sims 1 Booty
Post by: SoggyFox on 2008 July 30, 16:00:43
I haven't really gotten bored with playing, but that's because I rarely play either.  For me, its always been about building and decorating, then going 'Dang, I need a -this-, go look for it, don't find it, mesh it, finished decorating, make sure everything is workable for the poor limited sims [ Did you know there is no way sims could use the bathrooms in my house, or really in most house plans ], then rinse repeat.

I do play for a bit with new expansions to see what they have new.  However, I expect Apartments, like Freetime, will hold my interest for a bit.  Hobbies and witches are what had me reinstall sims1

I've rediscovered my game... The new computer shows everything I've been missing all these years of playing it. Also, we got a new graphics card for my game computer and it's the same as the other; I can actually see the FISH in the ponds! Whoa! And all of those gorgeous textures and patterns and and and! Go ahead and laugh at me, everyone else is! Including me... I just never knew what I was missing until I got that new card and the new computer... Look out, intarwebz, gonna burn you up downloading good stuffz fer mah game!

Nope. No laughter here.

When my video card gave up the ghost, we decided to use a GE Force 9000-series card instead of the 6000 one we had in there. Now, the 6000-series one was good. But with the 9000-series, I noticed more detailed texturing on clothing, a marked difference in lighting, etc. It was ... fascinating! Good luck with the new card!

Sims 1 was uglier than Sims 2, but was still great fun to play and much more customizable.

I wouldn't exactly call Sims 1 "uglier" than Sims 2. ;)  I personally think well-made Sims 1 objects look far sharper, brighter, and more detailed than Sims 2 objects of similar quality.  Hell, even most of the Maxis TS1 objects seem "better" than the Maxis TS2 stuff.   I also think the Sims even look better.  Sure, their eyes and mouths don't move, but when you compare Maxis TS1 Sims to Maxis TS2 Sims, the TS1 Sims still seem to look more like real people.  This is even more painfully evident when comparing Maxis TS1 clothes to Maxis TS2 clothes.  Many of the Maxis TS1 outfits are gorgeous (particularly those from Unleashed and Makin' Magic), having highly detailed textures and the right amount of wrinkles and creases in the right places.  Most of the Maxis TS2 outfits seemed to be too smooth-looking and "painted on," devoid of the detail and texture that real clothes have.  And, must I also mention that the TS1 Sims came in more than one body type?  Or, how although, there were only 3 skintones, those 3 skintones seemed more "real" than "Barbie"?  Sure, TS2 has many advantages over TS1 (basements, 3 and 4 story buildings, diagonal windows, doors, and objects, kids grow up, etc.), but in very many departments (like customization, as you mentioned), the original game still reigns supreme.

Rant ended. :)

I do play for a bit with new expansions to see what they have new.  However, I expect Apartments, like Freetime, will hold my interest for a bit.  Hobbies and witches are what had me reinstall sims1

I'm sure you're aware that they put witches in Apartment Life, right?  Neverthless, the inclusion of witches in Apartment Life seems to have been executed a little too "casually," if you know what I mean.  I mean, what do witches have to do with apartments?  It seems like EA forgot that TS3 was on the horizon (and there weren't going to be any more TS2 EPs) , so they hurriedly stuffed magic into the last TS2 expansion so they could say that they remade Makin' Magic in TS2.  I don't know, but something just seems wrong with it... :-\

One thing that annoys me no end is that in Sims 1 children could interact with babies, they could sing them to sleep, it was so sweet and they can't in Sims 2. The voices were more pleasant somehow too. It also shocked me that there are only 2 body shapes, while Sims 1 had 3. Now of course, Custom creators have given us all kinds of body type options, but they didn't come from EA. I can't really go back to Sims 1 though, I enjoy the life cycle too much.

Title: Re: Sims 1 Booty
Post by: SoggyFox on 2008 July 31, 21:32:48
Actually, I'm not sure if it was to hurriedly stuff a 'Makin' Magic into Sims 2, or if it is just they had folks made about not having a real 'supernatural' in Free Time and couldn't think of anything more apartment-y, so put witches in.

Since Free Time really has alot more crafting even than OFB, the Witches are really what I'm looking forward to [ I didn't really -play- 1 until MM came out], but I'm also really looking forward to the cielings and the rumours of being put stuff on walls at different levels too.

Of course, it is also a lot harder to share my houses than anything I might make to go in them, which makes me sad, since I have all the expansions.

As far as Sims1, my only problem playing it is the size of everything - my eyesight is a bit poor, and its harder to see the stuff in that version.

One of the main reasons I am interested in Sims 2 and may try it out is for the life cycle thing.  When you play a family for a long time in Sims 1, it can almost get boring when you realize that the kids will forever be 10 years old - so they will never leave the house unless they get shipped off to military school, then you never see them again.  Babies become kids, but it's an instant "bang" kind of thing, no stages of kidhood, which I understand is what happens in Sims 2.  There is a "grow-up" program for Sims 1, but it is notoriously buggy, and has some weird effects.

I would also enjoy getting to see my Simmies close-up.

The nicest thing about Sims 1 is that it plays very well on my low-end basic Dell inspiron 530, with nothing but an on-board graphics card.  Even with tons of CC, it loads at an acceptable speed.

I may get the base Sims 2 game just to try it out, but it sounds like I would need a much better machine than this to really get the full enjoyment of it.

We have some "Sims 1 vs. Sims 2" threads at CTO, and every time I mention that I want to try out Sims 2, the members threaten to tar-and-feather me - they call it "going over to the dark side"...

Title: Re: Sims 1 Booty
Post by: SoggyFox on 2008 July 31, 21:52:25
I wouldn't go as far as saying that.  There are some things that Sims1 has over Sims2, and some things sims2 has over sims1.

Lifecycles are okay, but honestly, I about go mad trying to rais children, even with the no-motive-loss cheat.  Building is much more interesting, with foundations and stages, and the like.  But with sims 1, I never really modded much, because I couldn't grasp it as well as I do the sims2.

I think sims 1 is -much- easier to play though, so long as I have fruitcake. >.>

The problem is that you can't judge something you don't know, and so you can't compare the 2 opus if you've never tried sims 2. So the topic of threads like these is borked if most of the users only know sims 1.

lol i have the same problem as SoggyFox, when i tried replaying sims 1, my eyes hurted so much :-[ I had the reflex of using the scroll of my mouse and page up and down, trying to scroll closer. I went "what the heck?!" for a few seconds, until i remembered there was no zoom feature :D

I never had any problem with the small program to grow kids in adult, grew them all :)
I do miss a lot of things that disappeared from sims 2: changing the bulb for the lamps, potted plants needing watering or else they wilted, the real robot that sometimes goofed in a party, the squeletal maid, the cats 'making out' normally (not needing a closed doghouse), the bakery oven, making different recipes with the garden vegetables, rabbits, and specially mices!!... Waaaa! :'(

Title: Re: Sims 1 Booty

Many of our members play both games, but some of us have not played Sims 2.  I agree, it's hard to have an intelligent conversation comparing two things when you have no knowledge about one of them.

The first thing that I always put in a new install is the fruitcake.  Of course you have to do a little on-the-spot home remodeling every day to put it somewhere the damn maid won't be able to grab it and put it in the trash.  But if she can't get to it, she hangs around and won't leave, so she ends up costing as much as a new fruitcake every day.

I love those meeces to peeces!  Also the hideous songs in Superstar.  If I've been playing studio town a lot, they get stuck in my head - especially the country song.  Gaahh!

Hai, jmcrp! You know me as my alter-ego, betty_newbie, over at CTO.  Well, I'm Bella over here (and Cassandra_Goth over at Sims Cave BTW).  I like being many different people! ;D

The ability for kids to grow up in TS2 is a good thing.  However, any aging beyond that, personally, just leaves me cold.  I couldn't stand to see my Sims grow old and die. :-[  When I (briefly) played TS2, I always used the "Aging off" cheat.

Fortunately, kids in TS1 can grow up with either a certain Makin' Magic spell or hacks like the Millennium Sims puberty cake.  Yeah, it's not 'gradual" like in TS2, but at least the kids won't be 10 yrs old forever. ;)

I love my sims 2 game waay more than my sims 1 game. Only because of the fact it's not as buggy for me anyways..... it seems like I was always having to delete stuff because of bad meshes, and I would have something weird and borked up in my sims 1 game to the point of where it was unplayable. One of the cc's I downloaded for my game even corrupted my disk!

Hasn't happened for my sims 2 game yet *crosses fingers* But so far I've have no crashes.... just one time where it would freeze, that's all. And I fixed that, so it was no biggie. You can definately tell more effort was put into the sims 1 than it was in the sims 2. Seems like in all of the sims 1 expansions packs it was like you were buying a new game! Whereas in the sims 2..... not so much.....

I mostly used the fruitcake in my downtown/vacation lots.  The commericial ones, I'd just put it in a little pillar.  The other alternative is that blue expresso machine.

I wasn't a member of any communities back then, and the only place I downloaded from was TSR, and that was rare. I must have missed out on a lot of stuff for that game. Makes me wish I hadn't donated it to stepchild!

The worst things about Sims 1 that I remember is the endless binary searches for CC that caused problems, finding hacks that work together etc. After all that, being happy that it *only* crashed 3 or 4 times a day.

Shit, that sounds like my Sims 2 game this week. I play with no hacks at all, nothing to  make my sims screw around, stay young or any of that. Well, put some in this week and it was crashie time to the fucking max. I took out the hacks, Ralphie will let me play my game. I put the hacks in, the thing crashes twenty minutes into building a house... I've used different hacks at different times, and none of them are allowed. Fucking computer has a cranky disposition, which is why it's named for Ralph Kramden... None of the hacks by Sim Wardrobe, Two Jeffs, Squinge or the Pirate King himself are allowed by this cranky son of a bitch machine. If Ralph Nader was dead, I'd say his spirit was taking refuge in this thing, but meh!

So you mean that if I get sims 2 and play vanilla, it will be as bad as playing Sims 1 vanilla?  And I will have to go into a DL frenzy for it, as well?  Oh, noes!

At least if I start doing that for Sims 2, I won't be such a noob that I think it is wise/right to pay for CC, the way I did for Sims 1 back in the day.  I know where the booty is, and where to get better-than-pay free stuff!

... And that is a major good thing! *remembers sims 1 days when pay CC was "No ma'am not for ya!"* Bloody days. Alienating.

Yes sims 2 vanilla is like sims 1 vanilla. Uh in fact even more as sims 2 has a lot of stuff added compared to the first one so hacks are needed to correct a lot of EA spaghetti codes. Like having owned shops: without hacks you can for example end up with customers in your grocery playing ball inside, of having a pillow fight, or your sims' inv filled with crap; stuff like that. But sims 2 has a LOT of CC too, plain unhacked CC. A gazillion of different food, farming CC or whatever: you name it you got it (99.99% of the time).

This sounds great! Sims1 really needs a PMBD. When I installed my Sims1 game a while back I realized very quickly that I couldn't play without certain content and that most sites were no longer up... Plus asking for things in the community was a hassle no one wanted to help. So I'm really glad this site is available.
