Those fucking sheep. God, I could scream. She asked an innocent enough question, and they're all yelling THIEF! STEALINGS!

I messaged the girl saying it was fine to do so. People may feel they're on shaky moral ground downloading from here, perhaps, but anything on the Exchange is fair game.

Sent the poor kid a link to here.

And what if that girl had never gone onto any other site and only ever downloaded from the Exchange?  She'd never know it was originally made by Peggy or Rose or whomever.

"Stealing is a crime."  Puh-fucking-leeze.

I'm glad you messaged her.

why does everybody over there seem to think they're a moderator or the morality police? reminds me of little kids trying to get in their parents good graces by tattling on each other...
OoO you are sooo naughty...you stole!! how dare you!! I'm telling mom!! you're going to be grounded you evil bitch...

Yep. And of course their favourite word "Illegal". Pissed me off the most.

That's such a lie as if they'd stop creating because how else would they get their addiction of attention and praise?

Grr! Moralizing from a site that sponsored a "secret forum" to exchange personal information about suspected file sharers.   That's so much more moral than reposting with full credit a bit of digital content that's not supposed to be sold commercially in the first place.

I'm really starting to dislike the whole MTS empire and S2C in particular.

That's pretty awful, if it's on the official site how exactly is it stealing? And the last post is so mature and explains so much, great job modding there. Well i'm sure she's gotten an ourpouring of "illegal" support, and we already knew sims2community smells like a junior high locker room.

At this stage theyre kind of cutting off their nose to spite their face, I know if I got those kinda replies I would just be further encouraged to "steal"

I just cannot get over how rude they were to her, and how they leapt all over her with their self-righteousness, she was even polite enough to say that if her topic wasn't appropriate, she understood, but, that whole 'whoops, bye-bye' thing...are they insinuating she'll be banned or something? God, their moral indignation just makes me so angry.

I don't know what to say, I mean I'm not surprised but those people are assholes. (not the good kind) seriously, they're acting as if the OP beat a little old lady and took her purse when in fact it's nowhere near anything like that!

"Just remember that the creators will STOP creating the good stuff if it stops being worth their time and effort to do so. Then you will be stuck with Maxis stuff."

OH woe is me! the "creators" will stop creating because I stole'd their downloads for nothing more than my own use! but I agree, there's no point to creating something if those dirty thieves are going to take it and use it for what it was orignally intended for. :P

The replies to that poor girl are insane.  I don't have high expectations of posters there, but I wouldn't expect such... sheepish replies.  Delete the stuff so she can feel better about herself?  Submit to the paysites whims and maybe they'll give you more?  Absolutely miserably handled all around.

I'm glad a couple of you PM'd her.

EDIT:  Said "bouple" instead of "couple," haha.

It doesn't matter what you send to the girl, PM it or not. Chances are she won't get it. Maybe if you can get her email address off her profile...

How do I know? MTS2 will read whatever PM they feel like reading. I know because I have sent PMs via MTS2 then sent PMs on another site about the MTS2 message and lo and behold, that person never got the MTS2 PM.....

JM can attest to lack of privacy on MTS2 since he had a private chatroom talk evedropped on long ago.

Privacy is not to be had at MTS2, or even here or I would guess anywhere.....

Title: Anyone seen this yet?
Post by: Vaughna on 2006 November 21, 19:56:36
This is the very reason I refuse to ever post at S2C, they're all stupid.

If a "pay" mesh shows up on the Exchange and EA does nothing about it, then it's free for the taking.

If EA doesn't say it's "illegal", than it's not illegal.

The morons over there have a very warped sense of what real stealing is.

There will always be good things to download regardless of whether or not a few insane, uptight, paysite creators take their files and go home.  Just because Retail Sims is no more doesn't mean the Sims world has come to a screeching halt.  It goes on.  And I have no trouble still finding things to download.  There are still plenty of free sites out there with good content.

I've also spread the word via the electronic mail, to her. Although, I must say, it makes me quite uncomfortable, the way you can't SEE people's emails there, you have to send via a form. Of course, it's there for everyone's protection and everything, but with their spying ways, you never can be sure. Also, I don't like not having a copy of what I said saved in my shiny gmail... :(

Title: Anyone seen this yet?

I prefer the form-type email - what makes it hard for me to send other people means they find the same thing when trying to contact me.

She's very mean. And how soon we seem to forget. Oniella is one of those idiots who was always on the forum saying she couldn't afford to donate but viola. Then she openly thanked someone in one of the pic threads for sending her a pay hair.

Then it got good when the fake peggy came around. Someone had posted in the thread that their sub had just ran out and could someone send the new hair. Oniella emphatically stated "I think not, that's stealing." The person who asked for the hair to be sent called her out saying "You would know wouldn't you." They then accused her of being a hypocrite, she denied it and said that if they had a problem with her they could pm her. So it's always hilarious to see her stanking behind talking about how "That's stealing." If it is then she has branded her ownself as a theif." I'm sure she's around here somewhere.  :D

Illegal?  So it is illegal for EA to have a download of an item on their site which they own the copyright of?...um...yeah...

And to the girl in the second post (As this is how it usually works)  I suppose her way of making herself feel better about downloading these items is by riding around on a moral high horse and bitching at everyone else for it?

they were encouraging the exchange of donators' personal information so obviously the only time being "private" applies is when they're banning you from their "private" forum for your naughtiness.

I just wanted to take a second to clear this up as well. None of the site staff were encouraging this, some people (who were not and are not staff) did it of their own volition and when it was noticed, an immediate stop was put to it.

I'm not saying it was right to have been there in the first place, I definitely don't agree with it - but it was unnoticed at first. When it was noticed, it was disallowed and removed.

However that doesn't prevent them from moving on somewhere else and sharing the information on another site *coughthesimsvaultcough*

anyway, you're right - I should have stepped in and said something first - it was definitely not cool of them and my bad that I didn't. But the behavoir definitely wasn't overlooked.

In the future I will be saying something, because it's not cool to jump on some poor kid who probably has no idea what they're going on about. But really even if she DID know, some of them definitely stepped over the line.

The bye bye comment made me roll my eyes - she wasn't and wouldn't have been banned.

Those girls are seriously like hardcore rule mongers - I deal with it every damn day.

However that doesn't prevent them from moving on somewhere else and sharing the information on another site *coughthesimsvaultcough*

Where there's a will, there's a way, and it's naiive of anyone to think that just because they stopped doing it at one place, doesn't mean they won't find another place to continue to share information about filesharers.

Excellent reminder to us all to be vigilant against them, and to CYA.

Huh, interesting. I'll email her then.

That's totally untrue, I've never had any of my "bad" PM's go missing or anything out of the ordinary

So it's "tottally untrue" because it's never happened to you, although it has happened to others?  mmhhmm

I have gotten PM notification e-mails from MTS2...and then...no PM.  I am banned from S2C but not MTS2...but now I have stopped signing in.  Why was I banned?  I could tell you if they told me.  Oh, and it's entirely (easily) possible to read PMs on a forum on VB software...my forum runs off it too.

It's never happened to me and I've never heard a peep about it being done, about things being read in them or anything else. I'm sure no one cares enough about you to read or delete your PM's. I'm not arguing if it's possible or not, but I don't believe it's going on currently and I take what you say with many grains of salt. I'm sure your ban was VERY well earned.

PirateBooty, when you say that's 'totally untrue,' to what are you referring? The fact that the incident in question didn't happen as sickpuppy said it did (and if you do "know" that, I'd dearly love to know exactly how you would be able to "know" that beyond a shadow of a doubt), or the fact that that sort of behavior is going on over there at all (and again, I'd really love to know your method for being able to monitor all of the actions of all of the moderators/admins on that community at all times).

I could just as easily say that it's totally untrue that family members would never steal from their families simply because it hasn't happened to me, but that would just be ridiculous.

As a staff member I can say with 100% certainty that I have never heard any mention of such an act - not that it was done, not about what was said in PM's, not about actions being taken against users due to stuff said in PM's - nothing at all. If it is happening, there's only one person doing it and no one else is involved, period. I've sent PM's myself that would be very frowned upon but nothing has ever happened to me.

People who know me can attest I'm the first person to speak up when something seems wrong, I don't try to bury shit or sweep it under the rug. If it was going on, I wouldn't approve of it and I would be very vocal about it.

So like I said, if it is going on (which I do not for a moment believe - present me with factual evidence and not "oh but it said it was there and it wasn't" stuff that anyone could say, true or not - and I might change my tune) it's one person, no one else knows (because if anyone did, they would say something and it would get around - believe me) and it's not being shared. I have to agree that noone would have any interest in reading BlackKat's PM's anyway. No one on staff bothers to mention her.

And as for how people know, the majority of the posters/registered users here are using fake names - no one can be sure who is behind any of the unknown names and they might very well know for a fact.

Oh it most certainly DID and probably does happen. Does it happen all the time to everyone? Don't be stupid, of course not.

It is possible I guess that the other person lied to me about the message, but I doubt it, since I expected my PMs to be being moniroted and never reaching their destination which I why I asked abut the PM to begin with!

Don't be calling me a liar. This DID happen. It does happen. Others have complained of their privacy being invaded too. ANd hell no I'm not going to tell you who, what, when, where just to 'prove it' to you. I'm not stupid. I like having access to MTS2 and it does have good things there. I don't want to be banned over something I've said on another site (oh that never happens either right?

And it is possible that 'just one person was deleting PMs' like maybe LL, our beloved, departed LL...... I like you Discord, for an MTS2 moderator you are one of the good ones. You seem to say what you think and suffer no consequences for it. But as I hear it: Just wait. It'll happen to you to. Give 'em time.

EOD here as I don't want to get 'canned' here for some silly thing I've done that JM doesn't like ME doing altho I've done nothing that others haven't done.

Not at all, I don't want to get in fights or argue or anything over here.

(don't want to quote your whole post sickpuppy and make this longer, this is mostly in response to what you said but hopefully helps some other people who may or may not have been worried)

I'm not going to "punish" anyone for anything they say here or anywhere else. That's retarded and pointless - no one has to say who they "really" are but those who use the same usernames have nothing to worry about. I can assure you that no one currently on staff is going to punish people for what they say on other sites either. I'm sure some of you who WERE banned for saying shit here have noticed that your bans have been lifted for a while - it was silly in the first place.

On mts2 and s2c I have to uphold the rules and I respect that - but just because someone who posts there, posts over here and is open about filesharing doesn't mean I would ever do anything to them on either site. So don't think of me as a spy, I am actually enjoying the honesty and the open posts - it's a breath of fresh air. People who ban people due to stuff on other sites (and I know there's a LOT of them out there) are pathetic and they can't really keep people away anyway. Anyone with a lick of sense can use a proxy and re-register.

I highly doubt you'll get banned here for posting your mind or in this discussion, I don't think Pescado cares. But I understand if you don't want to post anything further - I just wanted to make it understood that I'm not here on a witch hunt but to better understand and maybe help other people better understand my intentions etc.

As for your first comment:  I had the same experience as a staff member...I heard people talk about it and I would have the same response...I knew it was *possible* to read PMs on a VB forum how ever if anyone had made any accusations of it (Which neear the end of my time on staff, some of my friends *did* make accusations of vanishing PMs and   privacy in their PMs being invaded)...I would and did say that although I knew it was possible I'd never heard anything of it...Members PMs were not discussed in staff areas, and no staff member ever admitted to having read any PM-at least in my presence.

Then, a few months after I left the site for good I got myself a new e-mail address.  I occasionally checked my mail at my old address and on two separate occasions I received e-mail notifications of PMs at MTS2...the first time I signed in and saw that there was no new PM, and one of the old PMs I thought was still there was gone (However I'd not signed in for a while so I cannot be certain of this) the second time there was no new PM just like the last time.  I've now signed out for good...and it has been months since my last e-mail notification-but my account has been inactive for some time so I am not at all suprised.

And as for you DiscordKitty...I have friends who are still active at S2C and from what I hear you're a good moderator.  Shame I never got to know you :)

*shrug* Honestly I didn't know it was possible until I read this thread - though I have no real reason to have asked if it was or want to read peoples PM's. I'm not nosy, I have no interest in what people PM each other and I have enough to deal with that I have absolutely no desire to see what's going on privately and involve myself in other peoples internet drama. I have my doubts it's going on currently, but people are going to think what they want regardless.

Title: Anyone seen this yet?
Post by: Immortal on 2006 November 24, 01:26:27
You would not have access to read PMs, Discord :)

There are a couple ways to do it...You can pull up a PM off the database, so only thoes with database access can do it this way.  It is also possible to alter and delete them, though I have never done this.

Also, on VB (The software that both my site and MTS2 and S2C uses, there is a plug in available that makes PMs easily readable in the admin CP to anyone who has an admin account.  I know we like to think that we have our privacy, but privacy on the net really doesn't exist.

My feelings on the matter?  I don't believe it is an admins or moderators privilege to read through members private messages at will. although I understand why the capability can be useful because there have been times when, as a staff member, users have come to me with a complaint about PM harassment.  At this time I do think it is justified to look at the offending message or messages to help decide what action should be taken.

Title: Anyone seen this yet?
Post by: discordkitty on 2006 November 24, 01:47:51
I never said I would have access - I think it's plain as day that it would be an admin-only feature. I said I'd never had cause to ask if it was possible and I'd have no interest if I could.

We require any harassment complaints to be made with a forward of the PM in question.

pretty much nothing after that.  seeing what modders say when they upload something:

I'm an admin at a very active vB and it's pretty easy to piddle around in people's PM's.  I had to do it once due to a child molestation issue on the board, and even the ones the user had deleted were right there for the reading.  Which is why I don't send anything peek-worthy over the PM system at MTS2 or S2C.

I'm just going to assume one or two admins there have taken it upon themselves IN THE NAME OF JUSTICE, and I appreciate that there's staff there who would cry "NOT OKAY!" if they heard about it.

In the bad old days, I ran a bbs. A "dial up" bbs. Waaaay back. Admins have some power. The owner can read anything he wants to and can flag anything coming from particular users to be forwarded to him. "Absolute Power" is not a misnomer here. If it can get you in trouble, do not send it by pm.

Start at about page 7 of the "Lyric's in trouble post". There's a link to the MATY thread where it was discussed and Delphy gave his side of things. It's kind of an open secret I guess, though I didn't know anything about it until a few days ago. I don't care if it happened from 5 years ago and he was going through a hard time. The point is it DID happen and he did have child porn on his computer. That's disgusting. Paysites SO serve a purpose.  To pay for cigarettes, dirty/used jockstraps, porn, and to take care of the chilluns, which my dad clearly doesn't want to do.

Perhaps there is more money in the used jockstrap/underwear market than in Sims paysites.

I'm not sure about the bloated corpse bit, though.  Seems like that'd be tough to actually manage.  Of course, you could then demand a platinum price for your used jockstraps.

Actually.. they don't even really need to have touched a dead bloated corpse.  You can just SAY they did.

I like Sims 2 Stuff. It's refreshingly honest, doesn't play favorites and is fun without back-stabbing intrigue.

Maybe that's an aquired taste that most pirates just don't have?

  yeah i saw it shortly after she posted it...was tempted to message her and point her this way but i didnt...
why does everybody over there seem to think they're a moderator or the morality police? reminds me of little kids trying to get in their parents good graces by tattling on each other...
OoO you are sooo naughty...you stole!! how dare you!! I'm telling mom!! you're going to be grounded you evil bitch...

I saw it and was going to do the same thing...but then I started getting all paranoid...do they check out our PMs?...can they boot me for mentioning this site to her?....can they boot me for stating my opinion on the "so-called" theft of other people's work?  Yeah..I'm a bit of the paranoid type.  I'm to the poinit where I don't really much give a shit about s2c.  The majority of them are ass-lickers looking for a pat on the head from the mods.

Those parasitical little maggots.

Maggots aren't actually parasites. They don't depend on a host organism for survival, by the time they get around to eating it, it's already dead.

Yes, but these are parasitical maggots. They like, evolved and stuff...

I don't and no other mods can check your PM's. I certainly wouldn't ban you for sending the link to here to anyone via PM even if I could read them. Nor would I ban you for having your own opinion and it being anti-paysite.

Frankly I've pretty much gone from being supportive of them to feeling they need to shove off. I do have about three ongoing subs right now, but I think there's too many and they're too greedy.

To me, the worst offenders are the pay per item sites. I'd much rather pay a monthly fee and have access to everything than pay 2-5 bucks a pop for each item (reflex, rose etc)

Some maggots are parasitic, depends on the species in question, for example: bot fly larvae are parasitic

A big thanks for clearing that up for me.  I totally agree with you on the greed of some of the creators.  I only have one sub and when it runs out I don't intend to renew.  After hearing how much some of the creators make per set I have zero respect for them.  Anywho, thanks again...I may now let my paranoia rest for awhile.

I would go as far as to say that a lot of maggots are parasitic, though "a lot" is relative.

Just remember that the creators will STOP creating the good stuff if it stops being worth their time and effort to do so.

So, if the creator doesn't get any money, it's NOT WORTH THE EFFORT! Seesh!!!

It's not their damn jobs, its a freakin hobby ffs. Thier choice to upload, I sure as hell didn't ask for it, and if you can't afford the site, then CLOSE IT.

I quite agree, and DAMN your new av is hot.

But yes. There are very few instances where you can turn a hobby, something you enjoy doing, into an actual job, which is a shame, but there it is. Sims 2 is one of the many things where you, sadly, cannot do that. If it really was, everyone would also be running round making money off fanfic, and off HalfLife maps, and off Runescape tipsites, and everything else. There shouldn't be an exception.

heh, thanks

and really, i already payed EA for this stuff, i'm not paying some self proclaimed artiste to buy it again in a different color. If it was thier job, the check would say EA not PayPal.

...Jesus that's what I used to do before I found PSMBD... whoah.

Anyway, it's amusing how all of them cried "Theif!" and someone actually told her to delete the stuff she downloaded "just so you can feel good about yourself." She shouldn't have asked the question at such a "Saintly" website. Good idea to PM her about PSMBD.

Maggots feed on tissues that are dead or infected. This clears the dead/infected tissue out of the otherwise healthy host (unless the entire host is dead, in which case the point is moot) without damaging healthy tissue. Further, maggots secret an substance that increases healing.

Some doctors now are using therapeutic maggots (bred and raised in a sterile environment) to heal certain damage... most extensively, I believe, in diabetics with trauma to the feet/legs due to poor blood circulation.

And to comment on the moderators abusing their power/PM issues... I used to moderate the Something Awful forums like 5 years ago... back when they first developed DPPH and FYAD. The forums were glitchy and posts would vanish and PMs would go astray, and I took a huge amount of shit for "spying" on people and "deleting" PMs, posts, and emails. Yes, personal emails sent from a hotmail account to somebody else's AOL account. I have no idea if mods on the site in question are fucking about with PMs, but with a large message board it's almost impossible to monitor every single message/post/etc and it's really REALLY easy to blame people for malfunctions they had nothing to do with. Just something to keep in mind.
