Title: SHINY FLOORS
Post by: Dark Lunaris on 2007 July 12, 23:27:25
Am I crazy. Or stupid? Or slow?
I don't think the floors in my sims2 game reflect and shine!

But I see a lot of screencaps of floors (like polished wood or marble) in the sims2 that look shiny and have a rather reflective surface.

-Is this because I is stoopid and just haven't noticed?

-Because my video settings are not set right? (mine are set pretty damn high though I believe...)

-Because these are SPECIAL CC floors I need to download?

-because I don't have the expansion pack with teh shInY floors!?

...

I think it may be number one... but we'll see.
If this question is TOO dumb, let it swim with the fishies.

They're pretty, but I can never get them to work. :P As soon as I place down the mirrors the floor turns invisible. Is it just me? Feh.
And now I have to kill you.
Love your new eyes, by the way.

Ah! Nuu! It wasn't a request. ^o^
I don't want/or am really asking for the floors.

I was just curious about their existence. I thought my game settings were on crappy. I'm SLOW. lol

Now I know they are CC. So I feel enlightened.

If this still sounds request-like, I'm sorry. Where's da plank?

You have to have mirrors turned on for them to work correctly...which I never do, since my video card doesn't handle it well.

But I have used them for some screen captures, and it's kinda cool...or it was, until everyone started using them.

That's the part that irritates me, I do have reflections turned on and my video card isn't too outdated or anything. I just assume there's some setting I have turned off in my card's control panel that glitches it because I can't figure out what else it would be. I'll fiddle with it later on and see why my game hates me this time.

That's why I was curious... in every CC screencap (or almost), I see those shiny floors... and I'm like.. "What the crap is that"?

I guess it does become less cool when you see it everywhere. I saw it so much I thought it was plain maxis content and not CC. rofl...

I thought someone did make that kind of effect for walls. For some reason my brain wants to say it was someone over at TSR who did it - Cyclonesue or Windkeeper but I know that's wrong.

I haven't seen them. I've seen full length regular mirrors but none like the reflective mirrors that you can place over any wallpaper to turn it reflective.

Maybe I imagined it. I dunno. I certainly can't remember where I saw it or who made it... If I suddenly remember I'll hunt it down. For now, I'll just languish in my brain fart.

LMAO!
I went literally. Not kidding you, on a 2 year sims2 hiatus. I did not go on any websites or touch the game in 2 years. I was avid on MTS2 in 2005 and playing A LOT of SIMS... then SUDDENLY...*poof*

I vanished... all my PMs went ignored, all my email.. everything.

Then I returned.. maybe a few weeks ago.. and OHMYGOD a lot has changed... It's like I went into an internet time machine!!

So I'm an OLD newbie. I hope I don't get toooo lame with my poor outdated knowledge.. LOL I logged back into MTS2 after my 2 year vacation and was like "bone tool? hair has animations now??"
I went from hair helmet days to reflective floors and hair animations. I'm slowly adapting. ROFL!

I thought it was HystericalP. at MTS2, I saw some screenshots not long ago and thought they were credited to her...but I'm not sure either.  If I stumble upon them, I'll let you know.   :D

Maybe, maybe. I remember seeing something of the sort around the time I saw these add-on crowns and moulding. Once I get motivated again (screaming at SimPE for some issues with my letter recolours of Echo's floormat having non-updating preview images has tired me out...I still need to share the darned things) I really want to take this stencil mesh I have from TSR and work on patterns you can layer onto wallpaper.

What a coincidence! I was just thinking about that the other day when I saw in a magazine, this wonderful bathroom with all reflective walls facing a window view of the woods...it looks like you're bathing in the woods. It was wonderful, and I have spent the last week looking for reflective walls!

I think that would make a great ballroom. Reflective walls and floor with chandeliers or floating candles. Add some ceiling tiles so you won't see the blue sky of course. Have a masquerade.

If I use the reflective floor tiles in a very small room, like say, a foyer or small bath, no problem. But if I slather them all over the place, forget it. My computer goes stop-action on me. Besides which, sim women wearing skirts have no business standing on reflective anything (that's what I told myself anyway, as I was ripping them out).

I just have them on my CAS screen (that's how I got them, it's a custom from MTS2) and in this tiny (6x6) owned clothing boutique.

I had those for awhile but some of my teen sims kept screaming at me because they couldn't check themselves out in them     I deleted them and ended up with Maxis cheval mirrors all over, sticking out of the beds and couches and everything.

I have the same problem.  They are fine in small rooms.  If I try to put them out in larger ones, my game goes crash.  I do think they are beautiful, however.

I'm way out of the loop on CC also after a long break--today was the day I decided "damn, I need those shiny floors". I found the Murano implementation, but it appears there's also a TSR version (where you get the floor tile 'mesh' and can download different kinds of tile to go on it--I didn't immediately find any wood ones, just reflective stone/tile).

I'm going to evaluate them both now for shitty performance.

Title: SHINY FLOORS
Post by: RedLove on 2007 July 15, 00:47:15
Try going to the reflex sims forum. They have some there too. The ones they have the tiles are actually the shiny floor. I think that's what you are talking about. By Teko? The ones at Reflex Sims forum are free though.

Also, this wasn't a request just a question. Chill out and actually read the post before you reply.

Title: SHINY FLOORS
Post by: TashaYarrr on 2007 July 15, 00:59:36
My quick and totally unscientific results:

Using one of the big Murano (5x5) overlays seems to impact performance somewhat less than getting the TSR 1x1 'floor mirror' and tiles.

The Murano thing is also cool because you just lay it over any existing floor and voila, reflecty. The TSR (and I assume other implementations) require you to put down the base mirror tile object and then another object (with the floor texture) on top of that...so probably having all those separate objects doesn't help.

Post by: Duckie on 2007 July 15, 01:29:52
OMG, if you're going to try to kill your computer with the floor mirror tiles - do it with class and use the Murano one. LOL! The one from TSR suxxors.

Post by: Feverish on 2007 July 15, 03:17:26
I use the murano ones. They're so easy. Just place over floor tiles. Done.
I'm still hoping someone find those reflective walls. I didn't even know they existed until today. Now I'm psyched for 'em.

It's just a wall. And the floor that comes with it is Teko's Prada floor. The same that slows down game.

Quote
# FullWallMirror_Recolour_Teko-Prada.rar: this RAR contains the recolour coordinate with the original Teko - Prada ReflectionFloor.  IMPORTANT: In order to use it, you *MUST* install Teko's reflection floor!

Thanks. It's pretty cool, but I was hoping for something like the reflective floors that can be placed over any floor tile to make it reflective. In order to get those mirrors to match my floor I'd have to get/make recolors. I do appreciate you linking to that set though. It is nice.

As far as the floors go, I'm familiar with two versions, both by Teko -- the older one is apparently opaque and recolorable, and I believe it requires shaders (which is why it doesn't work for everyone), while the newer Murano version is transparent and doesn't require shaders. No idea the status of the older one, but the newer one is apparently being moved to TSR along with the rest of Murano Mobilia, so it'll most likely be in the booty soon. :P

Title: SHINY FLOORS
Post by: Duckie on 2007 August 02, 05:58:18
Murano removed all their downloads from MuranoMobilia, including the Millenium set, because they've decided to join TSR. If you look at the bottom  left of the page where you used to be able to download the set in small print it says "Available soon at TSR". So, you're not able to figure out how to download the stuff from the site simply because there is no longer anything there to download. :)

Umm, don't know if this thread is dead because everyone found it, but just in case:  Murano did walls just like the floors, and you can get them in the booty under TSR/Murano...

The last time this post was replied to was Aug. Your gonna get Macro'd and made to walk the plank if you keep doing that. Try not to post in threads older than two weeks, unless you have something important that needs to be added. Try also not to make new threads unless they pertain to a paysite. Please read the FAQ, it will save you a lot of heartache. We already know that he's at TSR and all/or most his stuff is in the booty.

I think Murano has done that. There's also http://www.happy8.com/bbsims/ (http://www.happy8.com/bbsims/) babbyebesims that calalily mentioned.
http://www.happy8.com/bbsims (http://www.happy8.com/bbsims) Has reflective walls - downloaded them myself - but I don't know if they are over all walls or not.

There's different recolors of it. Some are "carved" some look like tile, but there are also 2 tints of plain reflective wall. (I have those instead of Murano's. Suck it, M!)
