There are PLENTY of places to poke sharp sticks at free sites we think do bad work/are suspiciously obnoxious/adhere to Nouk's Jpeg Sharpening Edict.

We also know that some former TSR creators have gone on to build their own free sites, and whether or not you think they are still tied in some way to TSR, they are free.

And PLEASE let's cease and desist with discussions about free sites who ask for Voluntary Donations to help subsidize costs. That's not only allowed by the EULA, but it's fine. Even when it's abig site like MTS2.

So knock it off!

THIS is not the place to whine about free sites! We have plenty of paysite crap to deal with ...remember who the enemy is.

On a serious note, here, I have to agree with alia - this site shouldn't be about demanding everything you want for free as if it is your right - either from free site owners or the kind pirates who do the booty.

Most of us here treat very harshly those that post a new thread to demand something - just think of it in the same light when you demand something anywhere else.

There's always the option of making your own content which will fit to your exacting standards, and if it's free, and not a compulsory download, this is really not a place for "all sims sites must be destroyed".

The place for slamming free content is the BBS - where hacks will ruin your game in a heartbeat, and stuff from MTS2 is just a clever virus delivery system.

The sense of entitlement in this community is reaching epic proportions. I've seen everything from people whining that the newest pay creation isn't in the booty instantaneously to them whining because they didn't get to download a certain pay set because it was reported for copyright infringement and subsequently yanked by the creator. I'm beginning to believe that it's all about the "download", community or doing what's right be damned. If it deprives some "poor soul" of a download, don't do it regardless of whether it's the right thing to do.

No one is entitled to anything. It'll be in the booty when Gwen and Hecubus feel like putting it there. If a download becomes unavailable for what ever reason - it's unavailable. You are not entitled to it. Move on or make your own.

Thanks for the wake up call, Hecubus. I have always considered free content to be a gift. You don't kick someone in the the teeth when they give you a gift, it's beyond rude. A pay item is a product, and subject to being inspected for quality. Thats a distinction that's easy to forget when the ball gets rolling, I know I've been guilty of it from time to time too.

This did need to be addressed, though. More and more people are coming here and making "Lol wut do u think of dis person???" type-threads with the sole purpose of starting unnecessary shit. It's become painfully obvious that there are a lot of individuals here with personal grudges that have nothing to do with the paysite issue specifically.

Not my intention Lieg.  I put up one of her sets in the ugly paysites stuffs thread. I was using it as a parallel to what she complained about Atwa's stuff because I (personally) found it funny... kind of the "do as I say and not what I do" almost.  I forgot how my sense of humor doesn't mesh up with most of the people on this board.  Well, she started sniping at me and was trying to push me into a fight but I ignored it and you could see that if you read the thread.

This isn't about Sherry - I hadn't even read that thread until it was mentioned by Angelica.  This is a place where you're allowed to have discussions, but really, attacking free content is for the BBS.  I think even TSR would let you have a go at the quality of free content as well - just so they'd know what to purchase and not to purchase.  They'd let you attack anyone you want if it was free so as to boost their sales.

Not to mention that the work done by the collective pirates on the booty here constitutes free work - and for that service, they shouldn't have to get a kick in the teeth with constant threads requesting, or telling them how to do it.

I remember there was a random thread but I think it was deleted before I even posted in it. Didn't it last like a day? I came home from work and threads were deleted and people were bitching about off topic spam and whatnot. How did the forum go to hell because of the random thread?

The random thread didn't work because, as 404 says, Zatanna brought her friends in for some pathetic 12ness and it was started too late. The chat-posts had already spread too far and the Great Blue Deletion soon followed. We will never know whether it would have saved the site.

There have been attempts to bash free sites and creators before but they are usually met with "but it's free" and the matter has been dropped.
If you want to winge about ugly shit, go to MATY. This month's theme is houses but the furniture thread from May is still active.
This argument is making the announcement at Parsimonious more relevant and timely.

The point is we don't need to make seperate bitch-a-thons, and if you just make your point once and drop it, it tends to be a bit more effective.  (I actually didn't intend to reply here again!)

I don't know if this will make people never ever go after free sites/creators again, and I don't know if I want it to. I mean, how else will I know what's going on in the community? But I think it's nice with a reminder of what this site is about.

I personally respect freesite creators, even if their attitudes or creations leave something to be desired.  They are after all, creating simply for the sake of creating and sharing which is what the modding/simming community should be about.
