Someone mentioned this in another thread and I thought it would be interesting (and quite possibly amusing) to see who people considered to be 'Big Name Fans' in the community.

Possible most obvious example would be Enayla and Peggy...but apart from creators, anyone else spring to mind & why?

I am not sure what your asking for here.  Big names around the community?  The phrase Big name fans, throws me off.  Other than creators?  Like who?  Delphy?  Thomass?

Ren, Rose, Louis,...maybe I'm biased but...Nouk?

Just that in most fandoms there are some names that lots of people recognise - some have gone to great lengths to get their name out there,   :shock:

It's not a serious question, no right or wrong answer, just speculating - in this community, who have you 'heard of' and recognise their name when you see it?

Most of these are creators such as Nouk (<3) but there are others who are more infamous like Thomas at TSR. And people like KSK and Sshodan for their creations but mostly their drama lol. Maybe people like Linuslover30 or Belle_Ange in the old days who made sims in a style that was recognisable...

If Nouk had a fan club, I would join!  :D  Seriously, she is one of the only hair meshers out there that allows her meshes to be uploaded with sims.  She is truly a member of the community, in every way.  :)
And, before you ask, I am not Nouk under a different nick!  :lol:
I just want to have her chilluns!  :wink:

Bruno from MTS2. He makes awesome stuff and I think he's kind of "famous" in the Sims community.

In this community, the creators easily trump the users and there are so many different sites that it's difficult to pinpoint who overall is well known..

As someone who typically doesn't hang out at forums, these are the people I've always known without even bothering to: Numenor, Pescado, Ren, Louis, Quaxi, RGiles, Helaene, Squinge, Nouk, Delphy, HystericalParoxism, CrammyBoy, Peggy. Seriously...I think that's about all! None of the people at TSR, not Carla Niven, not Exnem, not even LyricLee, not before I came here and learned all about all of them (and thus joined the simple joys of plotting to destroy their sites :mrgreen:  )

I had Helaene put down for make up and default skintones.

Rose for make up and hair (yea, I did learn a little since then).

I knew Peggy's site but it always loaded like crap to me so I never raided it.

Pescado, Crammyboy, Twojeffs, Squinge, Eric, Jase and Quaxi for modding and such. I'm a sucker for mods.

Not a lot of names besides that... I had a list of sites I'd occasionally raid for stuff, but the creators' names honestly didn't matter much to me (perhaps since MTS2 was on the top of my list and there's a billion creators) and I had never even heard of e.g. Nouk's hairs yet.

Today... Don't make me repeat all the names already mentioned. I put a lot more stock in individuals I know to be good these days. Quality over quantity. I also know about things happening in the community, which I never did before.

Having spent MUCH more time with Sims 1, and when asked to think of a favorite hacker/creator, Inge comes instantly to mind.

If you are interested in aquiring the most fans, I think you pretty much need to create hair.  They are usually the most requested, that I notice.

My favorite creator is probably Dorien from WDS/Simbella's.  She has been my favorite since TS1.

I used to have quite a large fan base when I ran SimMart.com - but that's gone now because I had to sadly close my site down (No money to pay for the domain- it was unlimited bandwidth/free, but the domain was costing me :( )

I used to get about 10 -20 emails a day with requests, and people giving me content asking to be a CC on my website. Unfortunately for me one of my best CC'ers went to a paysite (I dunno what) after my site shutdown :/ he made excellent clothes/object meshes, personally loved his bus bench, and his billboards.

Now I just make the occasional house on MTS2- I used to have HEAPS of objects and skins and houses, that were very popular there, until the site changed, and I havent been bothered to redistribute them- only 3 houses that I liked.

Pescado and Squinge are my favourite modders! They make coll stuff all for free, and the game would be shit without them. I mean it.

Enayla and Ren and Hystercial Paradoxysm and Helaene and Bruno are my favourite well known creators. Love them to death. I know HP a little and she's very nice outside MTS2 as well.

Ghanima is my favorite Goth/Punk creator, and Goth Punk deserves a unique mention according to... me. Because I can't do it for the life of me!!

Delphy and Quaxi and Numenor and Simpe dude and stuff are great assets to the community for making so much stuff possible for modders and creators, and downloaders, and my cat, they belong in my all time favourites as well!

The_French_Sim is one of my favourite creators for having such an unique imagination, and his stuff is perfect!

Maddy, Sare, MizziejB have such beautiful clothing and they all have their unique styles, I could not miss them on the site.

Stefan has great talent, great stuff, and great (real life) hair! He can sing too. His stuff is too realistic for my sims but it's very nicely done, you must agree.

I think Jirka isn't a recognizable name because he doesn't put his name all over everything like others do.  I bet a lot of people know him as "the guy who runs glance" (even though he is at TSR).  In the same way, All about style is a very popular website with lots of stuff that people use all the time, but Judie doesn't post in forums (that I know of) and she doesn't have her name anywhere on the site, so even though she is the admin of a popular site, people don't know her, and her site doesn't have a name that can be easily shortened into a personification.

I haven't seen her mentioned (or she was and I missed it). But Kate from Parsimonious. She was really the first high profile creator I became aware of and she seems like a classy lady...arr!...wench.

Inge doesn't toot her own horn, but she deserves much more credit than she has gotten. People seem to think her hacks are part of the game.

I'd have to add Numenor - he's fixed alot of really dumb things done by EA in design, and he's been really helpful when I've done work with him.

And I totally agree on Inge - I love her school stuff.

And Numenor did the most graceful bow out of the community I have yet seen.

Peggy - I love her hairstyles, but her creativity is dying. She needs to work on getting rid of those gaps, though. Expensive.

Rose - Pretty hairstyles. Expensive.

Bruno - Gorgeous makeup, I am a big fan.

Nouk - Beautiful hairstyles, always free.

MissSimGameFan aka SimGameFan  :P  -  Makes lots of makeup that rarely blends good with most skintones, sucks at creativity, and only knows how to photoskin, and never says much in her posts, and sometimes uses poser textures stolen from the preview screenshots. And instead of taking the time to make a whole new texture for the back of a outfit she copys the front and pastes it on the back and blends over the details. She also gets requests to make something, replies with "I'll try to make it :)" and never does.

HystericalParoxysm - Makes beautiful semi-realistic custom content.

ChazDesigns - Make celebrity sims that look like they're in their 40's or 50's, makes pretty hairstyles with overly-realistic photoskinned hair.

Jirka - Better than Chaz.

Raonjena - Pretty hairstyles.

ForwardMotion - Makes beautiful high poly clothing for model sims.

Warlokk - Makes lots of bodymeshes, especially unrealisticly big boobs.

PurpleJuice/Alban - Makes beautiful object sets, but needs to lay off the sharpening, it distorts the pictures.

HolySimoly - Nice objects, most is free, if it isn't it can be found here.

Helaene - Makes great makeup and eyes.

ReflexSims - Beautiful object sets.

Carla Niven - Way too expensive. There's some stuff that isn't that bad, not worth paying for, but would be okay if it where free.

All About Style - Beautiful high quality clothing, always free.

XmSims - Great hairstyles.

Actually, for the most part, his are quite realistic.  Unfortunately, I just can't bring myself to torment my sims like I am.

I'd probably say people like Kathy and Eric, Bluesoup, Pescado (especially now), and a mass amount of others that have previously been named and I am too lazy to retype. People who were here at the very beginning, back when MTS2 was bitty and I just lurked and stalked Pescado, Jeffs and Carrigon.

As for the infamous, well. A whole huge list of craptastic designers, drama queens, and paysite owners who think their shit doesn't stink. That list is far too long to type out.

There was a bloke I used to download hacks from in the early-aged-12 years of TS2. I can't remember who he was but he was really "famous". He hasn't existed for a couple of years now.

I downloaded some of the stuff from Rose out of the booty because it looked semi-decent on the preview images but once I got it into the game it looked like a total piece of ass and I took it right back out :|

I agree. I did a donate for all with Rose when I was doing my paying. lol Anyway, I wasn't happy with a lot of her hair, although a couple of her newer hairs are really nice. She does have some nice accessories you can't find anyplace else. Peggy's hair is horrible, I don't understand why she won't animate it or make the corrections needed. Nothing like seeing hair fold, become a sword and stab your poor sim through the chest or back. Some of that is Maxi's fault though. They should have made hair so it was the top layer on everything. Then it wouldn't disappear under some clothing, skin, etc...

One of my favorites is gigachanger at mts2.  He does some awesome skinning!

Yup they should have done that, and fix the issue with longer hair "scrunching" when a Sim turns their head.

BUT - while Rose's newer hairs might look nicer (and ok at least they're now animated, and better than peggy's), they still have gaps (both front and back/side near the ears).  She might start paying more attention to that now to make more money, especially since she's now offering people her special time-limited offer of fixed hair for only $6  :roll:

Anyway, I would only consider things like Peggy, Rose, TSR "big names" of the kind of BAD that is in the Sims 2 community.

For me, the "big names" are those who create awesome stuff and share freely.  For some reason, I don't really download too much from what most people consider to be "big names".  I have weird taste and so I download according to what looks good to me, rather than who made it.

Maybe I'm just comparing them to other hairs and they are 100 percent better than those. Dang, now I'm gonna be looking for the gaps and I'm using that Final Fantasy hair on one of my teens. Couldn't ya just let me have my fantasy of much better till she was an adult? ;) Please tell me you plan on fixing that one sometime in the future? I really like that one for the teens.

The original intent of this thread was for big names that are not creators.  However, in this community, they are pretty much one and the same.  It doesn't help that this is the internet and the fan base of the sims is so enormous it spans the world and its many languages.  People tend to stick to only a couple sites and there are thousands of sites just for the sims.  While someone may be well known on one site or even two, they're just another face on the rest of them.  Creators get the opportunity to be liked and known without having to communicate.  So, this thread is really pointless unless we narrow it just down to, "big name fans for our niche in the community."   :lol:

lol, I know! I mentioned a "big name", I knew the thread meant names that are generally known to a LOT of people.  That's why I mentioned Windkeeper, and maybe someone else. I don't remember.

But I was just stating the truth!  Or can you not handle the truth :shock: I'm just kidding, heh.  Which hair are you talking about, though?  The "Final Fantasy" hair means absolutely nothing to me since I don't follow that stuff, nor do I really look at Rose's stuff or keep track of what she has.  Is it a free hair?  I thought normally her character hairs are put in the free section.

Back a year or more ago, when I first became aware of the TS2 community, the first big name I heard about was Numenor.  To use the stuff I was just starting to download, I had to download the CEP, and we all know who makes the CEP.  Then I read a bazillion posts were someone was trying to make something, had trouble with it, turned to Numenor, and he fixed it for them.  And when I pawed through the files at MTS2, every time I downloaded something of his, I saw a lot of fawning comments underneath it.  It started looking as if the whole TS2 community saw Numenor as god.  

Then I stumbled upon MATY, and the world was never the same again. :-)
