I am old enough to not steal stuff. EA made the Sims 2 and it's their code that makes any custom content work, yet pay sites steal from them and break their terms of use all the time. That's disrespectful.

That will never happen because a lot of people on PMBD are creators, understand what the site is about, agree with the "thiefs" and "pirates", and are awesome.

People don't need custom content to live.  Even if it were possible that people stopped creating, people would still use what they have and fileshare, because almost everything that's been created has been downloaded and kept by at least one person.

If you were making this argument to me several years ago when the dot-com industry had just crashed, and we were still playing Sims 1, and a lot of creators were legitimately worried about how they could afford to host their content, I would agree with you. However, I am a reformed ex-paysite supporter gone pirate. :)

Too many paysites have abused "we need money to pay for bandwidth", and it's not as hard for a site to stay afloat as it used to be, and EA's Exchange hosts a wide variety of custom content for free. If creators don't want to share their custom content, they don't have to, either.

In the meantime, filesharing only helps reduce those expensive bandwidth bills, right?

Have you ever seen MTS2 or any community download site? People are sharing things, for free, every day. It might not be the best stuff, but people are sharing it and hopefully learning to improve for free.

The Sims is so successful because it is entirely customizable. Custom content keeps the game in business, one could say.  The community supports this by providing the necessary tools at an irresistible price of $0. Paysites exclude downloaders who aren't willing or able to pay, but they create their often shitty things because of the work the community has done, and because the community allowed this work to be shared.

I'm not an expert on that matter, too, but for what I know (having a couple defacements on my site, in the past), they are strings you put in the url - in the address bar - or in message text (our friend seems to have found this latest one): they should invoke some unprotected backdoors in phpbb installations.

This is done assuming HTML is allowed in message text (I may be wrong, but in default phpbb it's not anyway) and stuff like that.
The purpouse of this kind of hack is usually to inject SQL commands in the database behind phpbb, to retrieve admin's password.

By looking at what Mickey Mouse... er... I mean Rat had posted, clearly seems he (s/h/it) has found some random hints about the matter in Google (by love of justice he admitted that), and posted one that according to his taste looks geeky enough.

Alas, for security reasons, we don't allow that sort of behavior here. This largely limited him to messing with the logo. *cough* *cough*
