Title: Fashion Factory??
Post by: Scratch on 2007 April 07, 06:57:09
I was wandering around some of my favorite *cough* torrent *cough* search sites and found this little treasure,

 http://www.preiswirbel.com/pc/pc-spiele/pc-adventure/sims-2-fashion-factory-inoffizielles-addon.html

I thought i'd grab it and maybe take it for a test drive ... the only button that works on it so far, is the exit button.... i think i'm missing something.

How could they get away with this? Has anybody else seen this? Is this why some sites pump out so much CC.

Looks like bodyshop to me - have they remarketed bodyshop, but included everybody's meshes perhaps?

That's exactly what i thought...

It does sort of look like Bodyshop but i can't get it to work... just the exit button so far.

Maybe someone who speaks german fluently could take a look at the whole site and fill in the details... I think it needs a support prog called "windshield"  :?: ...

I'm confuzzled!

well... the only thing that works in the program for me is the exit button, so i think i'm missing something.... does it mention anything about a support program it needs? Is it supposed to be a replacement for bodyshop or an addon? Does it launch from bodyshop, it made shortcut on the desktop? How does it work??

Does Cardrew use it?

ok... I got this from the manual... translated by babelfish

"The FashionFactory is a Tool, with which one can sketch articles of clothing for the SIM2. This program is only meaningfully in connection with the software "the windshield frame section 2" from electronics kind Inc.. In their own 3D-Einkaufswelt different body models can again be fitted out. In addition different material samples are/- to colors and surfaces at the disposal. Further, own samples can be added simply or downloaded from the InterNet. New articles of clothing can be exported directly into the play or be stored in an unpacking file and simply with friends exchanged. For the export is not an installation of the program "the windshield frame section 2" from electronics kind Inc. necessary."

So... now i guess i have to go look for the windshield frame section 2, whatever that is... If i ever make something... i'll throw it at you first.. and then i'll talk to Cardrew about a partnership... or world fashion domination.

edit: a little bit more confused now because another translation page says "This program is only meaningful in connection with the software "the shelves 2" of Electronic types inc."

I'd send you the manual... it's a small, 280 k, pdf file... but i don't see an option to attach a file to the post's here.. do you have an addy i can send it to?

I've tried running this program a few times and like i said, the only button that works for me is the exit... and of course i have the sims2, so i don't see why it's not working.

Is this prog the source of cardrews awesomeness? Enquiring minds need to know...

I wonder if it's not working because i'm not using german on my PC...

anyways.... If i actually paid money for this, i'd be really pissed about now..

But, i still wonder how they got away with it.... it must make .package files. I wonder if it's because it's made in another country?

For Scratch: To make the program work you need a joystick or you can use your arrow keys to navigate around the building.  You have to find the clothing models, click and then color and texture away.

If you get yourself wedged beside a shelf just give up and restart the program.  Yes, the design is that good.

Title: Fashion Factory??
Post by: Scratch on 2007 April 08, 08:11:21
OMG.... you're kidding.... I have to wander around a virtual world and find the models..... well that's got to be the dumbest idea for a program i've heard in a while...  :?

Do they actually expect to make money from this thing? Well, I'll give it a shot... but that sounds soooooo baaad... but thanks for the info rickets

Does this program attach itself to the Sims 2, or is it separate? If it doesn't bug Sims 2 in the least, I might just download it and give it a shot.

Well i was successful at saving one piece of ugly clothing with this program, but now if i try to save any more hideous clothing it tells me this

Quote
die sims2pack datei ist erzeugt aufeinen pc mit installienten sims 2 konnen sie diese datei offnen und earhalt en dann weitere an weisungen

Can someone tell me what this means? I tried translating it with babel fish & still dont quite understand what it says.

Also does anyone know if its possible to get this program to display in english instead of german?

Title: Fashion Factory??
Post by: chlyn on 2007 April 08, 15:46:30
My take on it:

"The sims2pack file is made on a PC with Sims 2 installed you can open this file and ... then further instructions."

BabelFish translates "Sims 2" as "windshield frame section 2".

Fashion Factory is a strange little program that will give you results like this:

In answer to a couple of questions FF is a stand alone program and doesn't do anything to your Sims installs.

I can't get the save to Sims pack to work -- if you have the program it's the diskette option icon.  You can click on the joystick option and it will save your design directly to your downloads folder and for me the new design always ends up as the last option in Body Shop.

You have to navigate through a series of showrooms and find the model you want to use.  I've only found EA Games meshes in these showrooms.  There are also a series of shelves representing different items of clothing -- shirt, swimsuit, jacket, etc.--which you can use to load your own fabrics and textures from your computer into the application.

The program is very small and takes about 20 seconds to load.   If you have no skills in making clothing this is a lot better than Body Shop in that you get instant results with very little effort.  And some of the stuff you can create is no worse than a lot of things out there.

Title: Fashion Factory??
Post by: Scratch on 2007 April 08, 18:12:33
Where's the sharpen button???

I tried it out last night, it's a really bad program... but now i'm conflicted. If we want paysites destroyed we should encourage players to try and make their own clothes, so they won't need to go to a paysite for really bad recolours on maxis meshes... but i don't think it would be a good idea for the 12 year olds to get their hands on this... MTS2 would be flooded with the crap.

Thanks for the info on the program though... when i played with it last night i pressed the joystick button a few times and didn't know what happen.... now i'm going to search for what i did... shouldn't be to hard to find (I hope)

I agree - if recoloring and creation become commonplace, the elitism of pay objects will evaporate.

We should start a campaign to encourage EVERY sims player to do at least one recolor, if only to try it.

I think I'm a fan of Fashion Factory.  It's got a fair number of kinks and I think I've developed carpal tunnel from arrowing around but in just a few mouse clicks I can import my own seamless pattern and create this:

No Photoshop, no cutting and pasting and no sliding around the transparency setting.  I think it's kind of amazing.

This same effect can be duplicated in photoshop using a grayscale of one of the solid colored dresses, the seamless texture as a new layer, and the multiply function.
Of course, if you are using MS paint this is mind blowing.

It doesn't seem to be doing anything fancy.

Thank You Rickets, I'll try the joystick button to save instead of the sims2pack save thingy.

Has anybody been able to import meshes or are the maxis meshes the only choice? I'm off to find some patterns and textures now.

     I think there should be a concentrated effort by the members of this forum to inform other simmers about this prog... I know for me SimPe was to intimidating to even try and make my own recolours, but this has great possibilities, even if it's got major drawbacks....

It's "bleeding" because all maxis textures have a built in shadow under their garments (for skirts and in the neckline of tops etc)  If you were to just floodfill a page with a texture, that shadow would appear as the texture.

Wierd, but I would prefer it doing the old Photoshop way. I guess I like to manipulate the textures, and make it my own rather than just pasting the originaly picture on a MESH. Plus it looks like it streches it out, and makes it blurry in that program. But thats just my opinion! ;)

I sharpened!  With Carla Niven as my witness I sharpened!

I was too wary to install the pirated German language program on my real computer so it lives on a six year old laptop with limited video capabilities.  The images the program generates are sharp but my laptop is not so sharp.

I have no ideas about the legality of the program.  It has a cache file that contains 20 MB worth of mesh information that looks like this:

   afbodydressabovekneehooded.tmp
    afbodydressformallong.tmp
    afbodydresslonghug.tmp
    afbodydresslongloose.tmp
    afbodyjackethighcollar.tmp
    afbodyjacketshortdressboots.tmp
    afbodyjacketshortdressshoes.tmp
    afbodyovershirtpantssandals.tmp
    afbodypajamasclassic.tmp
    afbodyshortdressboots.tmp
    afbodyshortdressshoes.tmp

What's even better in a way is that I think they've lifted texture and material files from Marlin Studios.

Sadly, I've positioned myself as the reigning expert on this thing.  It is a nice gadget and I like the idea of it giving people who know nothing about Photoshop or creating their own content a chance to create for themselves.

I know a heck of a lot about Photoshop and Painter (not to be confused with Paint) and Illustrator and all that, but have been too damn lazy to find a tut on how to make new Sims 2 stuff using these tools.

I suck. :)

I made some darn good stuff (for ME and me alone) during Sims 1.

I Googled the item in question and wow, they have a shitload of stuff as add ons for this program, but being as I don't understand the language, I'm not going to be an idiot and grab it. I would love to be able to make my own stuff, but if I can't read the directions, I'm going to leave it alone. It really looks like something I would enjoy seeing an English version of, though. I know, I know, English is not the language of the world, but so far it's the only one I've been able to understand in my almost 42 years on this planet.... If I don't understand it, I leave it alone, I don't make messes that way...

Post by: rickets on 2007 April 12, 15:35:53
i can't believe i'm back encouraging people to use this program...

You don't need to understand German to run this program -- I don't speak or read German.  The interface is almost completely graphic.
-----------------------------------
Fashion Factory 101

1. Open the application and using your keyboard arrow keys find and select a model.  It's like you're navigating a series of stores in a mall.

2. Click on a model and you'll get this screen:

You then have the option of selecting which piece of clothing (shirt, pants, etc.) you want to work on.  Once you've selected an item you then choose the fabric from the left column and the texture from the right.  You basically just play until you are happy.

3. Once you've finished your model you click on the joystick button which will save the model's outfit to your Sims Downloads folder.

And you are done.  The outfit now lives in your Downloads folder and you can open it in Body Shop or the game itself.

4. Notice the shelf in the background on the screenshot.  If you want to put your own fabrics into the game you have to click on the box on the shelf that has the folder on it.  Once you click, it opens the dialog box and you can browse your PC and bring in your own stuff.  I've found it's best to keep the pattern you bring into FF at nothing larger than 200 X 200.

-------------------------

That's it.  There is no menu in German or otherwise with this thing.  The only German you'll see is when you save.

I'd really love for people who normally don't create or don't think they can create to try this out.  Paysites must be destroyed and if the way to do it is to make new creators then so be.

I am working on getting the program into the booty. All I need is some questions answered by one of the booty mods and then I'll start sending.

Anyway, I have discovered my problem and now I can fully appreciate this program. However, this darling creation has potential beyond its simple structure.

Take, for instance, this dress I made in Fashion Factory:

It's okay, but certainly not spectacular. But wait! Only a mere trip into Photoshop can turn that into this!

See how it glistens in the sun! Marvel at the magic that only Sharpen can provide!

It's so magical!

Like a broken TV display dress!

Anyway, this program reminds me of something for the sims1.

I remember a few years back being in my local game shop and in the 2nd hand PC games there was this sims add on pack (I forget the name) it wasn't offical Maxis. Basicly it organised your downloads in a 3d enviroment (Made to look like some kind of mall). Actuall sims from the game were large sized and in 3d. It was so crap I could not believe it. They had imported some kid with a plae body and he had a dark skin tone head, wtf?

Does any one know what this program/game was I bought for the sims1 many years ago?

As much as I admire Mufushu's work in emulating the taste and style of Carla Niven this for me might be more representative.

Hey, that wouldn't be too bad if it was in a karki green colour, differnt top part and minus the fish nets.

I just kind of like the pattern near the bottom.

Ooo poor saffy I forget about that. Try not to thnk of them as holes...try to think of them as flesh colored circles?

Any how that does look really gross.

Flesh-coloured circles = more pain for the trypophobe...

Actually, "flesh-coloured circles" makes me sicker...sorry, I know you meant to help, but I'm just trying not to think...

But you're right. It is gross. I liked the other one much more.

Oh, and I was wondering what something in that texture would look like in the game. Thanks for satisfying my, er, curiosity.

You guys can't tell this is edited at all, can you?  I tried very hard to make it natural and like an in-game shot.

I took this picture myself.  I made everything in this picture.  Worship me.

ETA: Now that I look at it, it looks like she's peeing.  In two different directions even.  Magical stream.

Okay, since I started it I'll apologize to everyone who was terrorized by my offering.  You can blame me, Fashion Factory and Jirka (because I needed a hard faced skin that looked like an off- the-Vegas-strip cocktail waitress with makeup troweled on) for the complete experience.

Ultimately, would there be any winner in that kind of challenge?  But, hey, I'm game.  Once more people in this thread get Fashion Factory maybe we should have "The First Official Niven-Off".

pls.

I'm 76% done with my torrent.  But I tend to delete things and then want it back, so I would like a slightly quicker way of re-acquiring it.

I just sent it to a booty mod. They should have it up here soon enough.

Then we can have a true Niven-Off!

Thanks Mufushu, I will have to give this program a try.  I am useless in Paint.net, but, would love to create my own sims clothing.

When it is in the booty, I will definately give this program a try! You've got me quite interested now that some screen shots and examples have been shown, it seems that even a dumbass like myself will be able to use it. Yes, please put it into the booty! I wanna play with it...... It'll keep me busy on the nights when I can't get more than fifteen minutes of sleep and there's been more of those than I like in the past few months....

I know I am dredging up an older thread, but, I was hoping someone could help me.  I have this program, and, actually I am figuring it out.    I was wondering if anyone can direct me to sites that I can download more tiled textures that I could make decent clothing from?

I saw this on Torrentspy or something like that to download, but I am not so sure this will do anything much.

You might want to try this website: http://www.environment-textures.com.  You have to pay for the full image but all you need to do is copy the thumbnail off the site.  The thumbnail is a good size for Fashion Factory.

Also you can just search for - seamless textures fabric or seamless tiles fabric - on Google and you'll get a bunch of hits.

Not seamless but very Nivenesque is this site which I used when I was creating with FF: http://www.murielleroy.net/miva/merchant.mvc?

Thank you rickets. You have been very helpful!  :D
missnaughty, the program only does recolors of the base game clothing, but, for me, it has been a good place to start.  It has given me a bit of confidence.  Who knows, maybe I will be venturing further because of it!
