Incidentally, the only site on that list that looks familiar to me is All For Sims, and maybe Artistic Habitats. Never used any SimsHost sites.

What hosting group is/was Dincer Hepguler's site on? MoonSims or somesuch? I forget. It is/was a similar umbrella of pay-ness, though.

Some duplications here and with SimsHost. Not interested in parsing who should get credit or blame for being the PayMeister for the group of sites, but I suppose SimsHost would outrank MoonSims, given that they claim they "brought you MoonSims".

Simshost is dead? EXCELLENT. That deserves an extra-shiny killmark. Maybe with fairies and glittery sparkles ala Peggy.

Aquamarine - they're like a hosting service  for sims sites, a little like TSR except everything's not consolidated on one big site. People had to donate to Simshost to access the content on any of the sites hosted there (and the content was, for the most part, purest crap. Sub-TSR crap, in many cases).

The article on simhost was dated 1st April.

And thus the fun was ruined.  :lol:

The spin with SimsHost was that you paid the money up front, and each download would be a charge against your account, to pay for bandwidth.

As soon as any artist got popular and saw how much Greg was earning from her work, she/he'd leave and start a paysite.

The artists that were left weren't as skilled and sometimes didn't update as often. I'm surprised the site lasted as long as it has.

I really don't understand this plague for needing pay for hosting (okay, yes I do. They just want the money). There's all the ones that'll let you put your stuff up for free and I can't be the only person who offers to host anyone they see in trouble.

Some of the arguments are just ridiculous. Especially the one about single moms. Um, is that supposed to make me sad or sympathetic? I was raised by a single mom. Sure, it would be nice for her to be able to stay home making Sims crap, but guess what? Life isn't fair.

Besides, what kind of job is running a paysite, anyway? Sure, you may be around for your kid more, but there is NO job security whatsoever. I'd think that, if I were a single mother, I would make sure there is a secure cash flow first. Babysitters are not completely horrible.

I am sure they're just bitter because there is nothing they can do about it (obviously, EA doesn't give a shit), so they crank out the ol' violin.

let me just add my single mom raised 5 kids on her own with no help from anyone she busted her ass and worked 16 hours a day when she had too please spare me the drama folks! I have been working since i was 13 years old get off the lazy mode it's amazing what can happen.

When I was a kid, I nicked a couple of books and an aquarel set from the shop, because I had no money to buy them and like, totally wanted. But even then I didn't think it was a right thing to do...in other words, that guy can stick his sob story where sun shineth not.

You may only use them on sims that have my approval - you may have downloaded them, but I have control of them in private dwellings as well.

Don't look at them out of the corner of your eye, don't look at them in bodyshop, and don't use them on the following sims:

fat, thin - ONLY ripped ones.
teen, child, toddler, young adult, elder - ONLY males or females, adults, aged 1-5 sim days.
All sims wearing them must have the biggest lips ingame.

Don't even THINK about taking screenshots - even if they are stored on your computer only - I will know!

PS: The novel in question is Atlas Shrugged - far too long for a quick read (far too long for a long read, even...think War and Peace PLUS Ulysses). It is a bit odd, but it's also quite reflective of the objectivism movement (http://www.objectivistcenter.org/index.asp) (aka radical libertarianism)...and it's her most famous work as it is a masterpiece.

For a better sense of Rand and these ideas, read or watch The Fountainhead - the book (http://www.answers.com/topic/the-fountainhead) is shorter and much more to the point, and the film (http://www.answers.com/topic/the-fountainhead-film) stars Gary Cooper, and how wrong can that be? Or...check out this summary (http://www.answers.com/topic/atlas-shrugged) of Atlas Shrugged.

I personally don't agree with all of her ideas; however, I do find some of them quite compelling...and at the very least worthy of consideration.

Somebody in another forum whose opinion I respect has attributed the demise of SimsHost to the PMBD booty.

I have been simming for years and only just stumbled on this site via a link at Cat and Susim's site; how well known is the booty?

Plenty of people on S2C know of the booty because there was an uproar about some horrid, horrid site distributing the hard, hard work of paysite owners.  And most people from MATY are familiar with it as well.

I'd say it's pretty well-known.  If not infamous.

It will soon disappear - my husband handbakes fresh hot cross buns for me for breakfast every Easter, and it seems to give me a bit of pepper in my step.

But needless to say - I read everything.  I'm not so impressed with Ayn Rand myself.

Personally, I don't think that PMBD has anything to do with it - it's just something for people to hang their hat on and say - "Oh, it's not cause it's crappy content, with updating as recent as 2005 - it's the booty - you did it - all of you dirty pirates, and it's your fault".

And of the two sites at SimsHost - only 2 are in the booty - so really, they don't seem to have been a big feature in the community, and certainly the hardest to navigate, and the crappiest of the crappy, from what I've seen.  Has anyone here been to Killersims - which was well known in Sims1?  

Unfortunately, there is too much free content on offer for people to search for obscure paysites that don't update. I remember checking Killersims as soon as I got Sims 2 - nothing I could find, or want to download really (considering I have approaching 20.Gb waiting to be installed, that says something - I play Maxis and a couple of hacks - that's it).

SimsHost biggest enemy has mostly been itself - it showed the community in Sims1 that paysites were acceptable, and very financially viable - and so they shot themselves in the foot - with hosting so cheap you can afford your own site, why let the SimsHost people line their pockets, when you could line your own  :wink:

Never the less, I say take the killmark and be damned - take credit even when credit is not due.

I remember when he was starting up SimsHost back in the Sims 1 days, and he believed (or at least said in public) that he was doing a service to the Sims community, by helping sites that needed assistance to pay the hosting bills. It didn't exactly work out that way.

Isn't she forgetting that the whole "torn by vultures" deal was inflicted upon Prometheus because Zeus told him NOT to give the humans fire? I don't know if that was mentioned in <i>Atlas Shrugged</i> but it's how the actual myth goes. Basically Prometheus went against Zeus wishes out of pity for humanity so he was punished by having an eagle (not a vulture) pluck at his liver for eternity. It was his own fault for doing what he was told not to, it had nothing to do with men setting vultures upon him.. so the whole analogy makes no sense to me as a student of mythology.

It's been discussed in various old-ish threads how HChangeri seems to lack basic reading comprehension, so I wouldn't attempt to make sense of her ravings. Bad for the brain.  :lol:

maybe this has already been said about hchangeri and her affinity for atlas shrugged and john galt...just throw pointy objects at me if it already has, but it really pisses me off when people use ayn rand's philosophy or whatever to show how smart and super awesome they are. i've read both atlas shrugged and the fountainhead and the whole thought process behind them is so elitist for lack of a better term. only people that fit specific qualifications of super capitalism and intelligence and particular aesthetic principles need apply. minus the super capitalism, what does hchangeri bring to the table? there's no way she would be one of ayn rand's chosen...

The philosophy seems to be that the highly skilled and able (self diagnosed "betters") should be completely devoid of altruism and philanthropic tendencies. Her incredible ego encourages her to use this philosophy to justify her selfishness but I fail to see how what HChangeri does qualifies her for this and the level of recompense she expects exceeds her abilities and contributions by such a degree as makes her love of Rand more laughable.

Ah, but the law isn't actually on the side of paysite owners, so all they really have is guilt. I, however, as a black-hearted pirate, have no guilt.
