So I am not one to post in forums or get involved in bs I don't care about, but now I HAVE to.
When I found this sight I made a mad grab for everything I wanted, threw it in my game, and laughed and laughed and laughed (and laughed) :lol:
And than I started to wonder who are these people and why are they doing this? Is it so, as was my first thought, they can stuff these pilfered files full of anthrax, HIV, WMDs, and gay marriage to obliterate the file sharing segment of society? When my office did not detach from my house and go careening out into the atmosphere I knew that was not the answer. So I came here to the forums to see what was really going on. And what did I find? That it was JM Pescado (whom I often picture as being Stewie's red-headed brother from Family Guy, btw) doing it why? From what I have gathered, because he can. Which is a hella good reason to do most anything, I think.
Now, from the first time I saw a paysite, I thought, well isn't that the American Dream. You know, free enterprise, strike while the iron is hot, all that. I mean, who wouldn't want to quit their job and stay at home all day smoking funny cigarettes and selling pictures of sweaters and toilets on the internet? C'mon... :wink:
But the other thing I thought was this has got to be illegal. And a quick read of the documentation provided with the game told me I was right. Why in the hell would EA/Maxis/Whoever let you profit off them without a royalty? Easy answer; they wouldn't.
Another thing I thought was what about the celebrity sims? What are the legal aspects of selling the likenesses of celebrities for a profit?

Now, I really don't care at all about the right's of celebrities :roll:
It was just something else that occured to me at the time.

Anyways, I ramble on, nothing I've said is relevant, and the point of this post was this:
I want to know who else LOVES this?!? :D
Who else wants to roll around like a hog in this messy, sticky, gay-prostituting, black-hatting, LyricLee choking, Peggy donation hair-haveing, nervous break-down causing, Pescado nipple-tweaking, oozy mess?
I was not at all interested in this community untill this happened and now I can't keep my eyes off it!

Dr, your post hits the nail on the head (not sure about the nipple tweaking though) I love it here!! No need for TV ever again and with the added benefit of beautiful things for my sims.  I just wish I could contribute more some how.

Well I don't feel exactly the way you do, but I agree that large paysites are lying about the bandwidth thing.

I don't agree on uploading creations against somebody's permission, but now that even MAXIS is allowing it by including meshes with sims packages automatically, how the heck will I agrument that?
I guess it's purely ethics now, and I cannot enforce my ethics on someone else.

I'm not against the huge paysites, but I'm not for them either... I'll just sit back and watch how this goes. :shock:

I'd say that a majority of the things being sold for donations are pretty bad and not worth the amount charged or the bandwidth used to distribute them - especially object sets. I seriously doubt that much of this stuff will actually end up in anyone's game for longer than it takes to look at it and be awed by the lack of craftsmanship.

In a way this is providing a public service so that people can look before they buy - kind of like in real life.

What I suspect will happen next is that some creators will begin making special secret sets for their special friends. That will be followed by images of these secret items being posted in pictures because those people can't wait to show off and announce that these items are "not available" which then starts a frenzy of it own.

Ah, the drama.

I'm undoubtedly enjoying this far more than I should and just a bit ago confessed to my hubby that I am now passionately in love w/Pescado after I looked over all the files here and began my download frenzy :lol:

Much of the stuff definitely isn't worth a penny charged but there are some treasure buried here and there.  Being a download addict I browse the paysites almost daily muttering in disbelief at some of the crap being outright charged for and finding the majority of excellent quality items at free sites.

I have to say, Dr. Philthy, I'm with you. I've been a quiet lurker for most of the time, here and at MATY, but this.... this is just freakin' fantastic. Free stuff, salacious gossip, nutters throwing highly entertaining shit-fits, gay hookers, what's not to love?

That's pretty much how I felt when I discoved the SFV back in the TS1 days, and paysites where not half as bad then as they are now.  So I can only imagine the bliss!

Phhhbt, there was free stuff before PMBD, yanno, and for each paything you can find 3 freebies of the same quality and looking pretty much alike. If not better - I'm now idly browsing dem pay sites in case I want more booty, and duuuuuude, wtf - most of pay stuff  is utter mediocrity that I don't want in my game. So principle counts, nyar! 8)

I'm still giddy over the fact that Bodyshop now packages meshes up with the sims.  We're screwing the paysites from the outside, and Maxis/EA are screwing them from the inside, by STEALING THEIR OWN STUFF BACK!!!  How awesome is that?  I can just imagine the eventual fallout this is going to cause with all the whiny creators out there.

A lot of them are whining that EA is violating their creator rights by ignoring the terms of use they drafted. Most creators blatantly do not believe that EA owns all CC created for the sims.

I guess they fail to realize that EA does not support CC.  Why would EA give a shit about the creators so called rights.  The creators have no rights, period.

I know others have said it, but it has always seriously pissed me off to refer to "donation gifts" or "donation items." Seriously, WTF?! A donation is something you give without expecting anything in return.

Now, there are a handful of sites that are mostly free that have excellent stuff. I frequent them. But the vast majority of sites out there are loaded with crap, and nothing pisses me off more than people expecting you to pay a lot of money for crap.

Or even a little, for that matter.

OOoh me too. I only heard of its existence on Wednesday and I've read everything I could find. I've done a bit more digging at MATY too, and this is more fun than anything I've found so far.
I'm not quite ready to throw myself at Pescado, but worship His Awesomeness yessiree.

Yeah, I had little interest in the actual Sims 2 community because I thought most people were paysite licking whores.  It was good to find a group standing up for the gaming community.



The problem here is that you see these items as the site owner's creations.  They are not.  They are EA creations just altered.  You can't just alter someone's product and charge for it and then get mad when people call you on it.

Not that I don't respect you as a neutral observer, but I do strongly feel that your logic here is flawed.

I have had a large bug up my ass ever since Sims 1 and Sim Freaks going pay. The very idea of people greedily cashing in stuck in my craw. It's  a fucking hobby! If you can't afford the bandwidth, then close the site, don't money-grub. Christ, I hate greed!  Of course, there will always be the whiny ass little shitheads going on about some ridiculous site shutting down and acting like it's the end of the world.

Yeah, SimFreaks Sims 2 stuff is not good, and the site is unbelievably slooooooooooooooooow.

I love the aim of PMBD, until I saw a good deal of the booty in my game.  Most of it is crap, at least that's my opinion.  Some of it I have to keep in a seperate folder on principle.  I can't fathom why so many deem their meshes and/or recolors good enough to charge for.  Because I got them for free, and they suck, I will store them.  :twisted:

I have gotten much booty from  here for free also. I agree most, if not all sucks. I've deleted them all so far for their suckiness, not on principle.

I deleted at least 90% of the items I downloaded from the booty.  Sad, I know.  Kept most of the bodyshop stuff, but I'm more picky about it 'cause it's harder to delete.  Now I'm suffering from lack-of-orphan-mesh/recolor-deleter though.

Both that and the orphan recolor scanner that come with SimPE only allow you to disable the files, not move or delete them.  :(

It does.  But there are a lot so I haven't taken the time to attempt this sad, sad task.  ;_;

This stinks of pure laziness, sloth and possibly gluttony. (It is turkey day... burp) In my case, I do the ole binary search thing. Its not 100% effective, but its helped me find 90% of the orphans.

P.S. An "Orphan Deleter" just sounds so Pescadoesque. He just keeps the ones that survive being hurled against a wall.

Hmm.. on the topic of the orphan population(in DL folder), what about the clones?  When bodyshop includes meshes with packaged sims, what if you already have the mesh.. do you now have two copies of the mesh in your downloads?  If it adds the mesh each time then download folders could rapidly fill up with clones.

Only if they have been renamed somewhere along the line. Clean installer warns you of that.

Hey this problem used to drive me crazy too, until I found out that Simpe renames the disabled packages to .packagedisabled
So if you just go into your downloads folder, you can arrange them all by name and easily see which ones are .packagedisabled files. Than you can just delete all those ones!

Argh, this stupid thing. I'm supposed to delete everything that doesn't have a mesh reference listed, but I tested this with my clothing files, and it lists like 90% of the stuff I consistently use as not having a mesh reference. Am I just doing it wrong?

Are the recolors in question in different folders than the meshes?  Not that that's it for sure, but I don't have a problem with it but I keep all my BodyShop stuff in one folder.
