Last night I posted to 2 threads, one by "Guest" aka Fresh Prince, and another regarding Birgit and her redone Banana Republic stuff. This morning both threads are missing. I thought perhaps it was all a dream...but my history shows that it was not. Where did the threads go? Am I just missing them, somehow?
Is there some kind of problem with the new server, or what? I know my post count was 15 at that time, and yet this morning was  back to 13. Odd, don't you think? :?:

I cant log in as Guest anymore,lol. It seems like a forum under the Pirate ship was missing, but it's back up now.

I am noticing the same thing, a lot of posts are missing.
I guess there must be some server issues still.

Yeah, I can see too; the entire spam thread is MIA.

Somewhat more worrying is the fact the Carla Niven thread is back to 66 from 74 pages and that the dramawhores thread is on 4 when at my last count it was 24...(or something like that :wink: )

I tried to board a few times late last night and got some weird server message so I guess the ship went down and had to have her barnacles scraped or something.

Probably had to restore from an older backup.

This should be the last backup, that's why many messages are missing.

No, you weren't dreaming. Bluesoup decided to delete every thread in the forum, and Pescado restored backup from the database. I believe some of you were still posting to ARR? in the middle of the mass deletion, and caught wind of it.

I only noticed because I rarely post, having had my only thread locked, and wondered if it was some kind of problem with me, specifically. Paranoid much? LOL. :lol:

Well since the ratio of retarded to intelligent posts was running about 60 to 1, I'd say no great loss.

It must have been a server phart, because several of the threads were interesting and relevant and not spammish in the least.  IMHO

I believe I read a thread by BlueSoup that she had deleted many off topic posts because of all the "derailment" from some threads intended topics.

Even the good threads were full of annoying stupid posts. To try to cull the retardation would have been impossible. A clean amputation was best.

I understand that, but why was an old database then restored instead of just deleting the unwanted threads and leaving it at that?

I was wondering if I should make a new Random spam thread for those of us that like to drift off topic?

Most of the spam shit is still there.

Again, unless I was hallucinating, there was a specific Spam thread yesterday, with an admonishing post directing anyone who wanted to post drivel to do it there and not in other threads. It appears to be gone as well.
As a newbie, I have to tell you, I don't get that warm fuzzy feeling here. I would like to take part in this forum, since I enjoy snagging the payfiles, but it seems that anyone who isn't one of the 'in' folks get cut off at the knees when they post.  Just my feeling, for what it's worth.

The Spam Thread clearly didn't work as well as expected, because you spamming sheep just kept on spamming up the other threads too. Like I suggested earlier, a Gitmo for the spamming sheep, with Gitmo-only access, would be the way forward. Then we'll really keep them separate from non-spam.

That being made clear, we are able to be straightfoward and honest here w/o worry of being maligned for being "OMG SO MEAN AND NASTY I CANT BELIEVE YOU DONT THINK IM THE GREATEST PERSON EVER!!!!!111"  I for one am sick and tired of the relentless asskissing and sappy sweetness that seems quite common on other message boards.  Too bad Elau isn't around for me to use as an example.

There is a middle ground between the asskissing and just being assholes.  We can be civil and not call each other names.  If you feel you can't then take your hands off the keyboard.

I think it's pretty obvious that I was being facetious about that, but I am not 12, and really see absolutely no reason why you would want to alienate members. If you don't want people to join, perhaps you should restrict your membership. If by asskissing and sappy sweetness, you mean treating members and their opinions with a modicum of respect, then that's an issue for which I have no answer.
I don't like joining a forum just for the downloads, I try to participate and get to know the members.

I didn't think the Birgit/junipersun thread had gone off topic. The last few replies were about what was going on over there, but it's gone as well.

1: I do not alienate anyone as far as I'm aware, I tend to err on the side of being overly polite.

2: I never said I don't want people to join, where is that in my post?  

3: By mentioning "ass kissing and sappy sweetness" that's exactly what I meant.  I'm not talking about the basics of polite conversation.  I say my pleases and thank-yous.

4: My issue is the fact many newbies register on this site and spam the hell out of it without ever bothering to read rules and previous posts to see if questions have already been answered.

Noodles, I wasn't referring to you, specifically, but to the general feel of the forum. Unfortunately, a very small percentage of newbies go ahead and read all the stickies when they join. I've seen it in many other forums, and sure, it's annoying, but what can you do? It's got to be annoying to see the same question asked/answered ad nauseam and I can see why it can piss folks off.
As far as spammish comments, there really is no reason to post to build your count here, as far as I know, so anyone making what you (the cumulative you, not you specifically) consider inane, is just a way of trying to join in and become a part of the forum. It's intimidating to join in when you are new to a forum where you are a noob.

Involving yourself in the community is nice but spamming is only a detriment to your "rep gaining" as it were by posting.  By spamming you're not letting others get to know who you are.

Most of what was deleted was pretty much irc fodder without the irc channel.  It had zero revelancy in regards to what PMBD is trying to accomplish.

I don't think it's so much leave, the only person that's been extremely annoying (as far as I've seen) has been zatanna. It's just to not spam up every single thread.

Please define Spam. Are you referring to someone posting a remark that doesn't directly advance the thread; IE., LOL...or "me too"...or similar? I think I'm having a problem discerning what would considered Spam or what would be an attempt to comment on the thread topic. I am not trying to be argumentative or snippy, but I think a clarification would be helpful to many. I belong to an assload of forums and some are a bit more lenient, so it would be good to know what your criteria is.

I've asked that spam be defined too. And since this seems to be blowing up so big. I'll not spam any more. There. Simple.

Zatanna had a habit of responding to every post and more often than not it was complete fluff.  It did not advance or enhance the thread whatsoever.  It might as well of been just "lol" but she managed to make the fluff posts more wordy than that.

ETA:  She had nearly 300 posts in only 13 days since joining.  You can imagine how many of those were quality posts.

I thought all that crap about husbands was pretty spammy, very IRC-like, and definitely best kept to PM or MSN, whatever. Also, the aims to get a higher post count by saying useless shit like, "I agree," to 5 million posts, pretty much qualifies as spam.

For the record, I've run into Pescado elsewhere and while he wasn't exactly warm and (possibly) fuzzy, he was nice and helpful. He will deny this. :lol:

I wouldn't take your deletion personally, Wicked Wench. Lots of people lost their accounts due to the mass deletion too, especially if they signed up within the week.

I think that when you couldn't go to any thread without the husband crap, it crossed the line. I do miss jesserocket though, she was usually funny.

Last night I got extremely tired of all the craptastic posts by the worst spam offenders (and Surelyfunke has defined that quite well) and I was deleting random threads and posts that fit the spam criteria.  Then I just went, "It's all fucking spam, these fucking retards" and decided to delete everything.  I told Pescado halfway through what I was doing so he could sort it out from an older backup.

So some really good things got deleted, and some not-so good things got deleted.

My first thought as I read this thread was the old "Pirate Song" by Ray Stevens. The pirate captain is talking about going out to rob, loot and pillage. groggin' and wenchin' etc. and one pipes up "I don't like it. It's not me" Sorry, I just had to share that.  :)

Listen, in the Birgit thread last night, it was mentioned about CC stuff that overwrites Maxi's crap. Can we start a thread listing the stuff that we run across that does that? It would be helpful. I had mentioned that her Villeroy (V&B) sink overwrites the Maxi vintage oval pedestal sink.

And, tbh, I stopped thinking about my post count early on, which is weird for me. I only replied when I wanted to make a comment. It may have been seen as spam, but I very rarely posted anything as fluffy as "I agree" and that's it. I have my own forums which I've moderated in the past and therefore I know how irritating it is to get a one-liner or a smiley as the entire post. I mean, I know I've probably done it myself and I do apologise, but I do know what it's like.

Blue: There were some extremely good threads that got lost in the homicide. It's really quite a shame. We may have to rebuild some of these threads (the ones that were actually on-topic) and who knows; we may get somewhere.

I have to be honest with you, though. When a post you've added 12 pages or so to gets wiped, it gets disheartening. I don't want to play with the Carla thread any more. It's just tiring, trying to write what you've already written or whatever. Most people won't bother, and then you'll end up with a million new threads which say exactly what the old ones said.

I personally don't care if you are disenhearted by the stuff that got lost.  Rebuild it, don't rebuild it, I don't care.

Some of those threads (like the Carla Niven one you mentioned) are just bordering on silly now because they're so long and people are saying the exact same things that were said 60 pages ago!  Move on!

That would be very helpful I think, go ahead and start the thread and maybe provide links to the content as well (on the actual site, not the booty) so those of us who don't have the names of all the CC memorized can see what you mean!

The Super-Deformed Bobblehead went postal and nuked the forum. This is the last backup. There are no "dual registries", if you registered after about the 22nd, you simply didn't get saved and have to sign up again. It's not that hard.

Let's just move on, those threads/posts that were important for people are still in their memories, those people remember them.....we don't need to dwell on this...it's been done, deal with it. Sorry, but this is ridiculous, no one should take offense as almost everyone lost a post or 2 (or 100 in some cases) but whatever!  it's just a fucking post.
