I know this site has been brought to our attention in another thread but i just wanted to discuss it a little more and the effect it could have on us. http://www.helgasims.com/ Has just recently joined the community and let me tell you her hairs are WAY better then Peggy's and rose's. And um YAY! they are 100% free she even gives you permission to recolor and post on your website (w/ credit of course) I mean how much better can it get?

This is a picture of her recent(and my favorite) hair I mean c'mon you know you like it. Anyway i think she could possibly put peggy out of business

Personally I think some of those outfits are awfully frumpy or plain just don't match but they do seem to be somewhat well done.

Is her hair animated and binned? I can't do that myself as I'm on a Mac with no SimPE so I like creators to do it for me ahead of time. Animation is a nice touch. I don't like cardboard hair.

Not sure about animation and binning. But the amazing textures will compensate, I'm sure.

And look - they ask for donations. Not tell people they can't have stuff if they don't donate! How great!

Not sure. I've downloaded her hair but not played it much in game never really pay attention. But if its not im sure if you ask nicely at MTS2 (look at the recolor section and some people who recolor hair encourage you to pm them and request recolors...they will also bin it) or go to Insim and ask they have a request area =]

Peggy and Rose are buttholes, too. Rose has about 2 OK hairs. So does Peggy. They have high prices for the hair, too boot.

But XM and HelgaSims - 100% free, all great stuff. :D

Helga is lovely and her hair is nice, but it's only for adults which bugs me. I like teen+ at least, which is why I do like lots of Peggy and Rose hairs. XM as well, though I have not a single XM colour in my game as they create the shittiest plastic hair colours--they're worse than Pegy's and that's saying something!! I'd much prefer Pegy colours than Flora/Sue ones...what happened to Sue, anyway...?
Something about Helga reminds me of Minanna. Dunno why, though...

Actually, I'm not terribly impressed with anything from Peggy or Rose. I like some of XM's styles but the colors are from the Crayola box.

I guess I'm just really picky about hair. But then again, I'm picky about everything I stick in my game. :lol:

I like her site, even her object sets, been frequenting it alot. And her site loads easy too. :D But yes her hair is nice, and the colors too. I think between MTS2, Simscribbling, XmSims, and Insimminator you wouldnt need to subscribe to Peggy or Rose. Im sure i left out one or two.

It's nice enough; I'm concerned she may go pay in the future, as her TOS banner says "You may recolor Free items but you may not...etc", as if there aill be non-free items in the future.

LOl Shash some maybe not know about it or feel funny using it. So they would have nice free products that they can feel they can use ethically. I tell you i have so much CC not using, that I'm sorting,things I forgot about. I think some just want it to have it were pak rats out here.

I would like teen enabled hair though. Maybe elder versions too, for when my Sims finally get old? Her newest hair says it has 5 ages though, so hopefully she's making them for all age groups.

I think the free thing is misused English, since her guestbook is in Russian (at least I think it's Russian. Could be Polish or something else like that).

I'll have to check this site out more when I have a little more time on my hands. I will say, I downloaded all the Rose hair from here, stuck it in my game, and then deleted it all. I hated it. I've heard so much about it too so I thought I'd find some good stuff. Nah. I've tried a few of Peggy's too. Hated them and deleted. Seems they look fine if your sim stays still but once they move around and bend over and look up and stuff it just goes to hell.

YES. I think they have horrible textures and such wonderful meshes. I actually only use XM Sims recolors from MTS2, I don't even remember the last time I had one of their original colors in game. :roll: Nouk has the best free hair all around I think, even if it's a tad too shiny for me sometimes.

I don't really like Helga's blondes and reds, blech.

I love Helga's hairs, even if some of them are a little high on the forehead I like the textures and my only real complaint is the lack of naturalistic reds but that's something of a community wide complaint so I don't hold it against her.

The thing about XM hairs is that I just download the mesh and wait for somebody to do a recolour. But it's usually worth it, even the hairstyles I don't care for are usually well animated.

That's pretty much how I feel. That's one of the reasons I love her Afrocentric hairstyles so much, they're beautiful but not shiny. I went through so much trouble to get her new dreads and I loved them

I don't know what it is with Nouk's hair but the only ones that work for me are the side ponytail ones. All others get bumpy, furry textures. I don't have a good graphics card. They just don't look good in my game and therefore I rely on the few I have. On the contrary, though, every item of clothing I've got from that site is superb. Nouk and Ghanima are amazing. I'm working my way through the other people but Noukie's site keeps mucking up every time I go there and takes like 60-million hours to get just into a section...and I have broadband!!!!

I've been wondering this myself because that site hasn't worked worth a crap for me since day one. I've got broadband too and I have no trouble with most other sites. It's a bugger. Whenever I do get on I go on a downloading spree because I never know when it will work again. :P

OK, I'll get it back on topic. Helga's hairs look nice. I downloaded a few today and will try them out in my game sometime to make a final judgement. She's on MTS2 as well.

I'm going to agree with you there zatanna. I put two into my game last night just to check them out. The mesh is good, even gives a little when the sim moves their head but not totally animated. It's the textures. They look greasy and flat.

I settled for recolors of XM's latest hair from MTS2. All curly and bouncy. Nice. And of course I downloaded a bunch more of Nouk's. :D

The problem with recoloring anything from XM is that you can't include the mesh. I won't download something if I have to go on a goose chase to get it to work in my game. grr. As a creator I don't like having to link to meshes, because I know that downloaders hate the same things as me.

Yeah, usually I won't hunt for a mesh and I get really ticked when I see great recolors but they want me to go spend an hour at some site that loads like crap and hunt for a mesh. The links are usually not direct links either. But XM is small enough I can find a hair mesh there and they're numbered. But if I go to a site and can't find it right away or have a direct link to the download I just forget it and toss the recolors. I appreciate the time and effort of artists but I'm not going to bite if they make it hard to get the whole package.

I agree entirely on the downloading meshes thing. The problem is that so many people are raging assholes about who can put their meshes where that creators have to jump through hoops to use the mesh. It blows.

On my site, I try to put a link to the exact page the mesh is on so that it can be obtained quickly and easily. I am considering just shoving the whole thing though and including meshes, whether they like it or not. I figure the end result is the same, and as long as I give credit and provide a link to their site then everything is kosher.

I rather like XMS textures, they have one huge advantage against most of recolours - their file size is way, way smaller. Textures-shmextures, I don't spend that much time gaping at my sims' hair anyway.

I'm glad you said that because I went to have a look at Helga's site (I've not read this thread before) and although the hairs look nice and I'm sure they're well made, I can't actually really tell the difference between the styles - same with Rose Sims/Peggy - they all look the same to me. Yes. I would much rather creators just include the mesh, give credit where credit is due, and that's good enough. People can get pissy all they want but the fact is people will download it and not drop the quest because they have to go hunt through pages of a site in another language and guess which one it is.

I love shorter styles. I only have, mmmm, one pouffy style I think. Sort of for whenever I get a sim that needs big hair. :lol:

Just make sure that brick is thrown at the MESHER, not the texturer. Though I suppose it IS a conscious choice if the texturer is to use a mesh they know they can't include.

Not including a mesh that CAN be included. Those guys may be flayed, then stoned. That is just laziness.

Some people, like Loverat, actually include ALL the CC in another rar file (or three, in one case lol), in which case I suppose it's better. Organizing all that would be a mess, though.

But it's probably easier for someone well known in the community like Loverat to get permission from all these stark-raving-crazy creators than it would be for the average lot builder.

This is why I rarely download lots unless everything is all inclusive. This is one thing TSR is actually good for, most of the FAs that make lots use things that they know can be included so when you download something it comes with everything you need. CycloneSue has quickly become one of my favourite lot builders ever because of her awesome buildings and the fact I don't have to hunt shit down.

*edit* Yeah, it is a pain when you get one of Loverat or CycloneSue's lots and have to organize everything, but I'd still much rather deal with that than going on a scavenger hunt for meshes.

I'm the worst house builder/furnisher man has ever known. Plus, I don't populate my neighborhoods with any lots that are larger than the 1x3 or 2x2 lots. So prefurnished starterhomes are my <3
The problem is finding said lots made by people who know wtf they're doing. My sister loves making lots, but then I looked at some of them and they're always on the largest lot size possible, sprawling and poorly furnished. She's an interior decorator too (e.e)

Jeez, you guys would love what I do then. I always only use Maxis stuff in my lots I share. That just keeps it simple. I usually go through the effort of furnishing them totally because I enjoy doing that but I know a lot of folks hate it with a passion. My houses are all two stories or less and on no larger a lot than a 3x4/4x3 but usually I stop at 3x3. That's the biggest I'll go.

Macs don't handle anything large well. Anything Maxis does, I pretty much have to bulldoze and replace with mine. I usually make my community lots on 2x2s to keep the lag down. Also, Macs don't like building cheats, like CFE, 45 degree angles, and objects not snapped to grid. Those just pull the system down when trying to play a house. As soon as you jettison or correct that stuff the computer is happy again.

You can easily have 8 sims plus pets living on my lots without being overcrowded. Well, the larger ones, but still not exceeding 3x3. So I'm used to playing under these restrictions now but I get around to sites and look at the real estate and just wonder, what the heck would a sim do with that huge of a house and that much land? Really, you don't need to use the 5x5 or 5x6 for living. I'd only use a lot that big if I was building a lot for decoration only to fill up some space around town. I'd never attempt to play it. I mean, I don't like lots where it takes the sim an hour to traverse to the bathroom or half a day to make the trip to the mailbox and back.

I've recently started building on smaller lots(keeps the lag down) and I make very good small homes (my friends opinion and mine). You probably wont like them if you like the square type house. I use the little octogonal room tool makes the house look so much better and makes the room come out more realistic. I dont usually furnish my house I leave that up to the people who download. I have a different style of decorating(sometimes i leave some rooms too empty and some too full) My style is more pack rattish =] I like to have everything in one room that I think my sim will need while in that one room. Anybody need a house though just ask me and I'll see if i can make one you like xD

The House is done! =] Hope you like it's on a 2x2 lot. Its unfurnished (if you want a furnished version just tell me ) the only custom content is a wall i used and the terrain paint. I ran it through S2CI and there are no hacks. Its 2 stories. It's pretty big I just don't know how to take good pictures (sorry) I tried the best i could I think it turned out pretty well.

I think guestbooks are great, lets hit em all show our appreciation. I seen some site I cant remember it today she has a pay part, coming in the future, off BSRs updates, she said about signing guestbook, dont send any nasty comments. I think if all paysite are going to to go this route, all us pirates ought to sign their guestbook expressing our feelings. Hopefully visitors will see before deleted. :twisted:

First, Helga reminds me of Herr Flicks assistent in Allo Allo :P .
Secondly, i don't find all her hairs that well textured. The first 3 sets of hairs she uploaded, weren't really special and looked weird. I must say her texturingskills als getting better, but that also gives her an alibi to make them paysets ;( .

I don't understand why sites with just one or two donation sets don't *also* put a paypal button on their front page for people who want to give a thank you and not necessarily receive one of the gifts. There seems to be a trend for part-pay sites to hide their donation gifts more and more deeply so as to avoid criticism, but that also means people who wanted to give voluntarily must be doing so less if they can't find the button.

It's almost like some sites want to hold on to their pay content out of stubbornness rather than to get any money.

Someone on SFV said they'd fix the new mesh but I don't know when/if they'll get to it. The one mesh of Peggy's that's the ponytail where the hairline starts like four inches behind the ears was fixed by someone at SFV and is much better, though still poorly animated.
