Title: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: Austere on 2009 April 17, 03:14:25 So I'm doing homework this evening at a friend's house while he surfs the web (he won't join GOS because he's too scared of the staff xD) for more stuff to add to his already larger-than-mine downloads folder. Then he checks the worst finds thread out of boredom and we find this:
http://www.thesimsresource.com/members/martaerika/downloads/browse/category/sims2-clothing-female-adult-everyday/title/Pink%20Pink%20Kitty%20-%20Whole%20[Look%20FIERCE Dunno if anyone knows Corrine, but this person stole her mesh and claimed to have made it, according to one of her friends here (http://www.digitalperversion.net/gardenofshadows/index.php?topic=11542.0). I don't like it, of course, and appaently she commented and they deleted it. That's maturity, for you. TSR is getting a bit scary, to me at least. I mean, I'm not a part of GOS anymore, but I still liked Corrine and Geldyle's stuff. What's next, EA itself? I hope they don't pull that crap they did with the girl on MTS2, because Corrine isn't even creating anymore, I don't think. Nice going, you friendly, high quality Sims 2 site, you. Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: dstar on 2009 April 17, 03:27:18 If you go to TSR and look at about half the FA's and SA's clothing meshes - they already do it to EA- (Do Bunny and Simal10 ring bells - Simal age converted the AL stuff for female teens and all Bunny's stuff is based on the H&M stuff packs all belonging to EA which they are not supposed to charge for). EA chooses not to do anything because they are buddy buddy with TSR.
Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: Darqstar on 2009 April 17, 03:40:16 I hope Corrine doesn't have an account at TSR, and if she does, I hope the password is totally different from any passwords she has anywhere else.
Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: dstar on 2009 April 17, 03:45:21 She just posted over at GOS- apparently she was credited for the mesh, but it went against her TOU (like this is so unusual for The Shit Rats), Gelydh was not credited at all for the boot mesh. She already has F-locked her LJ- just in case , don't know about passwords though- she did comment at TSR- something to the effect of I made this mesh and posting it here on a paysite goes against my TOU and it will probably be an hour or two before Mod Cadiva deletes it all.

Thats the link if anyone wants to see all the comments about it being stolen and all that. Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: Moonie on 2009 April 17, 04:32:04 That's terrible, but to be honest, I expected worse when I saw the title.
-TSR- still holding itself to minimal standards Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: Corinne on 2009 April 17, 04:47:33 Oh I'm way ahead of you guys. My password -and- my email I use at TSR are totally different. In fact, the e-mail is no longer valid. I should change it to a valid one, but I'll pass for now.
It was PMed to me earlier this evening, I believe (or that's when I got it, anyways). I'm just shocked that anyone cares about my crap enough to do that. As far as I'm concerned, they're not really messing with me necessarily, but Peggy and Gelydh. I just put the two together and tested them, like I've already said. Had I known this would happen, I wouldn't have shared the mesh in the first place. This is the second problem I've had with it so far. I guess I just wasn't meant to be able to retire from the community happily. ETA: I agree. It isn't half as bad as it could be. But it still sucks. Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: SlayerAngel on 2009 April 17, 05:01:22 Yeah I posted that thread, and I asked the Animal Army for help. I really hope they do, especially that one of our own, Nymphy is a member. It was bad enough when TSR went after buggybooz, but when they steal from one of our own, it's war. I PM'd GelyDH and I'm pending her reply. I think I should notify Liegenschonheit if she doesn't know already.
Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: Paden on 2009 April 17, 05:04:42 Do it, the more people get involved with this the better. It's also another one for coconut to bring to the attention of her readers.
Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: SlayerAngel on 2009 April 17, 05:26:23 Thanks Paden, she comes to chat almost every friday so I'll tell her then. I'd PM her but she isn't online now. It would be cool if someone let Calalily or Coconut know too. :)
Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: Pescado on 2009 April 17, 06:37:10 To be fair, this really doesn't qualify as a horrific TSR atrocity. The perpetrator is not even a high-ranking TSR member such as an FA, but merely a nameless user who is *12*, and sites can hardly be held responsible for the misbehavior of random users. The atrocity will lie in how this is handled, not in the act itself. Dumbass 12s do shit like this all the time. That's why 12s must be destroyed.
Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: calalily on 2009 April 17, 07:12:23 It would be cool if someone let Calalily or Coconut know too. :) There's the submit and expose page - coconut doesn't go round collecting information all over the web (due to the time required for that) so they only deal with things submitted. Post by: dusdeedawn on 2009 April 17, 07:20:09 Just for posterity, I've got screenies of the comments. 'Cause, you know, they'll be deleted here in a tic. And since I don't have Calalily's super-magical awesome screenshot abilities, it's split in four.

Agreed, not an atrocity whatsoever, the only truly shitty thing about it is where it's happening. I'm curiously not as concerned as I probably should be, nor am I letting any of this get to me (as I'm sure it probably could've in the past). You've piqued my interest with the destroying of 12s, however. This I can handle with great joy. Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: Rissa on 2009 April 17, 10:17:14 The funny thing is that this person uploaded another mesh, giving credit to Isselda - who is a crator at Gameisland.ru, a paysite. I cannot find the mesh in question anywhere on their site, but it's in the booty. The paysite is pretty empty, I don't know if they are still active, but as the mesh is at the booty it must have been a pay object. At least I think it's the same, it looks the same on the pics, I don't have time to compare them right now.
This girl is One way or the other, I hope everything will turn out well for you, Corinne. Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: kenmtl on 2009 April 17, 11:44:46 Once again I think you should just ask to have it removed and see what happens. If they take it down great, if not then it'll just get added to the list of examples of TSR not respecting their own statements.
Is there no one at TSR that checks uploads? Is that not part of their policy? Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: Skoria_Bay on 2009 April 17, 12:34:51 I really don't think they have anyone to do that any more. I know *cough* Atwa *cough* supposedly used to when she was Artist Manager there. I wonder why they even bother any more. I really hope Sims 3 tanks and when it does so does TSR.
Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: eph on 2009 April 17, 12:55:57 They didn't even check uploads in the Sims1 days. TSR doesn't care where the content comes from.
A quote from 2002! from Dov Sherman from Otakuworld, one of the early artists who managed to make custom meshes: Quote I tend to stay away from TheSimsResource because they have so much stolen artwork. It's not that they deliberately host pirated art; they just don't make any effort to avoid doing so. I've had to contact them on numerous separate occasions to have the same skins (posted under different other people's names) removed. I had been planning to send them my Usagi and Ryoko Sims but I changed my mind after the eighth time I had needed to get them to stop distributing those very Sims under someone else's name. If someone steals your stuff once, that can happen. Twice? Raises concerns. But 8 times? Obviously even back then nobody was checking stuff, and I doubt that has changed over the years. From what I have heard, they're currently being sued by people whose paintings were turned into Sims objects and then sold on the TSR CDs. When I looked through their Sims1 stuff one day (for laughs) I still saw lots and lots of identical stuff listed under different creators, and I imagine there's lots of stuff lifted from other creators in the Sims2 section too. Actually, now that Securom is gone I hope Sims3 doesn't tank. Just think of all the cool kids who will deinstall Sims2 to switch to the newest shiny toy - all lost money to TSR and other paysites, especially if the new Eula stays the way it is and everyone and their dog may modify and share stuff. Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: ValancySterling on 2009 April 17, 13:40:47 all lost money to TSR and other paysites, especially if the new Eula stays the way it is and everyone and their dog may modify and share stuff. When has TSR paid any attention to the EULA? I'm sure they will keep doing what they do with Sims 3. Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: dstar on 2009 April 17, 15:06:34 Ahh Less than Moderate Mod Cadiva has been at the delete key again- they should not allow her to touch a computer.
Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: Darqstar on 2009 April 17, 17:32:33 I've got some of the comments:
(http://i41.tinypic.com/2z9hzyt.jpg) Sorry about the length. I did trim off the sides so it wouldn't do horrible things to people's computer screens. ;) But if anyone needs the exact screenshots with nothing changed on them, let me know. Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: Paden on 2009 April 17, 17:44:38 eph, they have not come out and said that SecurROM won't be the poison of choice for DRM on Sims 3, so I hope the fucking thing tanks before it gets outta the gate. I was looking at the Game Informer magazine spread that just came out and it looks like pure, unadulterated shit. DO. NOT. WANT!!
Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: dstar on 2009 April 17, 18:24:41 It kind of like they took Animal Crossing (collecting shit), Harvest Moon (Farming Open Neighborhood) and Virtual Villager (aging crap) and added them all to Sim 2 and then changed the Sims so that they looked like slightly more adult versions of My Sims Kingdom characters.

Post by: Sinthe on 2009 April 17, 20:37:11 When I reported the mesh, I had to laugh when I saw a message along the lines of "thanks for keeping TSR a friendly place!" Does Sweden's definition of "friendly" deviate so radically from the standard definition of the word? Or just TSR's?
Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: snowball on 2009 April 17, 21:07:02 Must be the famous TSR Standard™, because I'm from Sweden and my definition does not equal TSR. And as everyone knows, I'm the definition of Sweden itself, being the perfect Medelsvensson. Er... not really. But TSR is fucked up, so I would still say they use their own definitions of stuff.

I took this right after posting. Before deletion, it only got read about 200 times. :( The Maxoid censors are earning their moneez. Days like this make me wonder why I even still PLAY my Sims games once in a while. Stupid TSR and stupid EA for holding the pooper scooper while Thomas takes a crap on their reputation. Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: Kathika on 2009 April 18, 00:34:21 Made a BBS thread about TSR not respecting TOUs. It got deleted, no reason given. Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: CatOfWar on 2009 April 18, 05:00:04 I hope folks will keep posting at TSR about Corinne's mesh just as fast as Cadiva takes posts down. Folks, if you have a TSR account you're planning to cancel anyway, this would be a good thing to do with it. I cancelled mine weeks ago, but I'm really considering making a new TSR account just for such a purpose. What's holding me back is that such accounts get banned, right? And TSR uses banned and inactive zombie accounts to pad their user numbers, right? So is creating lots of accounts that get banned causing enough butthurt to justify padding TSR's numbers?
Kathika, thank you for that screenie, at least I got to see some of the response titles before it went poof. Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: calalily on 2009 April 18, 05:10:09 Guys, coconut isn't going to be able do much with screenshots of deleted comments - there's not much they can do without concrete proof of actual theft - which needs to come from the person who made the mesh and alleges the theft. Don't be too surprised if there's no article on this - not much can be done with actual submission. It's kind of like clueing them into a drama that's half way through.
Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: Corinne on 2009 April 18, 06:18:58 It looks like they actually removed the mesh.
I just want to say that I really appreciate all the people who've come forward and defended my TOU on this. I admit, I'm not as angered about it as I could (or, perhaps should) be. I'm just detached, I actually had planned on leaving the community for good, but yeah. Doesn't always work that way huh? I don't expect Coconut or anyone to do any intense searching or write an article about it; it's tiny. It happens all the time on the EA Exchange, and about all I really can do is ask people to remove what they've stolen/reposted/used without permission, and hope they do. In this case, it looks like it's all cleared up, for which I'm thankful. So, for now, don't panic. And thank you. Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: CatOfWar on 2009 April 18, 07:11:30 Corinne, I'm glad you're not stressing about this. :) You're right, in and of itself, it's not a huge deal. It is however, part of a pattern, and every TOU violation people see helps them see the large, overall pattern of TSR's TOU violation.
edit: What bothers me most about this is not the initial violation. That could conceivably have been an honest mistake, failing to read the TOU or some such. No, it's the TSR censorship of posts pointing out the TOU violation. They know, they don't care, they want to cover it up. They censor such posts all the time. Then they bitch and moan "You're violating our creators' wishes" when stuff goes in the booty. Disgusting hypocrites. Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: ekimsal on 2009 April 18, 07:21:00 Well it looks like the mesh was taken down. Maybe enough people bitched about it. Dunno if TSR itself or the thief took it down though
Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: dstar on 2009 April 18, 08:01:29 Either way it is a good thing- If martaerika removed it that means that she now realizes after all the negative commenting that posting another creators work expressly in violation of their TOU is a bad thing - and hopefully will not violate people's TOU's in the future. If TSR removed this means that they MAY have minimal recognition that their fuck ups in the past specifically the theft of or use of free creators stuff against their wishes has cost them a large chunk of members and supporters in the last week. If course they are probably just selling martaerika up shit creek without a boat, paddle, or lifejacket because she is not one of their precious FA's and is therefore expendable and usable as a shield in the face of heavy fire from the opposition.
Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Post by: Paleoanth on 2009 April 18, 12:40:43 Creators cannot remove their own things from TSR. That is part of the issue many of us have. The only thing a creator can do is request that stuff be removed. So either the submitter requested the mesh be removed and they actually did that or TSR finally decided to remove it due to all the bad press.
Title: Re: TSR strikes again - GOS. Don't be too surprised if there's no article on this - not much can be done with actual submission. It's kind of like clueing them into a drama that's half way through. I really didn't think Coconut could do much with them. But, it was suggested, so I did. Alone you're right, they aren't much. Now that the mesh is gone, they're worth even less. However, if lots of people had complained, been rejected, then TSR ignored them, it might have been important to show that complaints were made and erased (Look! You can put stolen meshes up at TSR and no matter what, they won't remove them!") I have to give TSR credit for this one. If they removed it because of the complaints or removed it because the person who uploaded it requested it to be removed, it was removed. However, I'm sure they did it as a PR move. "See? We listen, we removed it!" to show what great people they are. Either way though, it's nice to see that they're starting to respect creator's wishes. They also got rid of my downloads on my page. However, my page itself is still up, thus, I won't change my sig until the actual page itself is removed. But it does look silly that I have a mini site with no creations offered. That's just not possible. I wanted to let you guys know that you shouldn't go out of your way to submit stuff and do things, if the original complainant wasn't going to do anything to set the story up, so to speak. |
