Title: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Pirate Panda on 2008 May 21, 07:41:15 Many thanks for the reply, Captain, and some good advice. I'll try sending them an e-mail, the main reason I submitted a request first is because the owner of the site had taken down all their content once before, and I do not wish to upset them into taking it down again. It's very hard to find good meshers who are willing to take up a request for something, an item that would prove very popular or that is very hard to obtain. If the site owner fails to understand the message I put across, and fails to understand further if I breif them again, I'll let you know. If all else fails, I'll get a subscription and submit some of the content to the Booty once I get my online payment working again. Hey, guys. Please hear me out. Seriously, I don't think it's a good idea to submit content from Silver Wind. If the site owner sees their content posted on the Booty, they WILL close down their site and take all downloads away. Trust me, that's not good at all. That means no one can download any more new FF7 content from them, ever. We all agree, this person is so talented, and the only one capable of making such wonderful FF7 content. And I'm positive we all agree that we don't want their site to be forever closed with no chance at all to download any great new items from them. No offense, but just because you want one item from them for free, you will be punishing everyone when their site closes. This is one site where I actually don't mind buying their items at all. They are excellent quality, and something you can't find anywhere else. You can tell this person strives really hard for quality and is kind enough to even share these items with us when they don't have to. Obviously, this person isn't in it for the money, or they wouldn't threaten to close their site. They just want a little appreciation and respect for their hard work to please us, and I think they deserve it x100. We shouldn't put these items in the Booty. I don't want there site to close with no chance of ever downloading any fantastic new FF7 items from them. And they seriously will close their site and never share again. I don't want one person to ruin it for everyone. That would be a huge tragedy. I can tell from your posts you love this person's stuff and you don't want their site to close. So for the love of FF7 and all the Simmers who love it, please don't put their items in the Booty!!! :'( Title: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Emily on 2008 May 21, 08:50:44 Many thanks for the reply, Captain, and some good advice. And I do know for a fact that the owner will definitely close the site if their items are uploaded to the Booty. If that happens, we'll never be able to download new creations from their site in the future. This is the best and only site that is actively creating new FF7 meshes and items on a regular basis. And I never said I was okay with having any items from any site in the Booty, so I'm not a hypocrite. I understand that this site aims to destroy paysites. That's why I'm requesting to not put this sites items in the Booty. This is a site we don't want destroyed. Look, even the person that requested the item to be put on the Booty doesn't want the site destroyed! Every situation is different, and therefore must be approached in different ways. To post this site's items in the Booty is the completely wrong approach, and will have a terrible outcome that punishes everyone, even the innocent people with no connection to PMBD. Title: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: glasscigarette on 2008 May 21, 13:09:51 Actually, you are being a hypocrite. You presumably joined this site because you want to see paysites destroyed, because that's the only reason anyone joins here unless they are a troll or doing some sort of...research. And now you are saying that this paysite has the right to remain pay just because they make stuff that you like, and because the site owner will react with some sort of indignant pettiness if the big, bad pirates dare to defile their work by making it available to as many people as possible? Uh-uh. No. Nope, não, nein. That flies in the face of everything we stand for. Paysites are violating the EULA and have absolutely no standing for their behavior. You clearly don't understand our mission here, or know us at all. Here's a brief introduction: we don't take threats, and we don't take excuses.
If the creator's concern is artistic rather than financial, perhaps they should be free already. Most educated downloaders have more respect for free creators than pay creators, anyway, regardless of the content of their work. And, there are plenty of options for creators who want to stay free but require help paying for hosting services and the like. Just talk to the Wicked Nouk Family. Or, submit content to MTS2, if for some reason running a free site is still too difficult (which it should not be). Either option would undoubtedly be in their own interests, actually, since I'd never even heard of this content until someone requested it here. Not only would they have little or no trouble running the site for free, if they so chose, but they would actually end up getting a lot more exposure than they currently have. What artist doesn't want that? Unless, of course, they really are in it for the money, on some level. If this site is truly as impressive as people are claiming, then they would have no problem staying free by working within the wonderful pro-free community that has developed over the past few years, or even just by requesting donations from their users rather than extorting money out of people. Options exist. Pretending that they don't doesn't make it so. I honestly do not buy the idea that this creator is motivated by something other than money, unless they honestly have no knowledge of Nouk and other great resources out there. In that case, if you really want to protect the site, consider educating them about their options rather than coming to pirate HQ and asking us not to act like pirates. The only reason that this site isn't on the booty already, I assume, is that interest and demand is not high enough. Our motivations aren't just fueled by a desire to get stuff for free. We have the EULA behind us, and the destruction of paysites is our goal. If this site goes down because we present its content as it should have been presented in the first place (free for all), then that is a victory. Yes, it would be a shame if the creator gave up her craft as a result, but that would be their own doing, not ours. Please, learn the facts. I didn't come here to attack the Pirates, and I never said I had anything against paysites, so I'm not a hypocrite. I try to see thing from both sides. Even the person who made the request doesn't want the site destroyed. Many innocent people would suffer because one person donates to the Booty, and I'm trying to prevent that. That's why I'm asking that no one donates these items to the Booty. No one will get any new items at all if the site closes. And this stuff is essential for a great FF7 Sims game. It's not just some dress that you can ask yourself, "could I do without this?". I actually do know a lot about your site because I try to understand things from everyone's point of view. And I know you don't just destroy paysites. You also liberate them. But if someone shares this site's items, we won't get a second chance, because this is our second chance. So I have to ask you this. Who is the real person being greedy and selfish here? If one person doesn't want to pay for an item, they ruin it for everyone. There are other options. The site doesn't have to be destroyed. Title: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: squall on 2008 May 21, 14:06:34 when a site is really good and free, they will get donations!
don't you see modthesims or insimenator? both are wonderful sites and completely free, and they're alive! and it's not because this site's itens is going to the booty it means that the owner will lose money! I have some itens in my download folder that i would never pay for. if weren't the booty, I wouldn't have it, so the site wouldn't earn money at all you must keep one thing in mind: it's not because someone has downloaded a pay item from the booty, it means that this person would pay for this item if it's weren't free Title: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Hecubus on 2008 May 21, 14:23:03 I have split off the rant from the booty shopping list. This site doesn't have to be destroyed. In your own words, it can be liberated. But if the site owner were to choose to close their site just because they were pissed off about people sharing their content, that would not be anyone's decision, or anyone's fault, but their own. That is something that we can't control. If someone were to share this site's content with PMBD and it were added to the booty, the next step would be in the site owner's hands, not our own. They are breaking their own word by violating the EULA, which they had to read when they installed the game on their own computer. I consider that wrong.
On a personal level, I don't particularly care what happens to this site. Don't consider me heartless, I just don't have a burning desire to support it, and it certainly doesn't create a large enough blip on my radar for me to be terribly concerned about its effect on the community. It's doesn't have the enormous following of TSR or the drooling fangirls of Peggy, after all. Their stuff is decent, and I'm sure they work hard on it. That is to be respected, and I seriously doubt that they are bad people (a bad person? I'm not sure how many creators are involved). I have no respect, however, for a site that feels it has the right to break the laws of the EULA just because they can; they do not have to, after all. As you and I have both acknowledged, there are options for site owners who need a little assistance in keeping a site running. And, if they are for some reason reliant on the income from the site for something other than site maintenance, it might be a good idea for them to find a hobby that can bring in income legally. This is an issue of principle: I do not believe that any site has the right to charge for content, no exceptions. Most people here feel the same. I think it would be a shame for the site to close its doors forever and stop sharing content, and not just because there are obviously people out there that really like it. But, I also think it's a shame that yet another creator thinks they have the right to charge for content. They do not. They would almost certainly be welcomed with open arms into the free-site community if they chose to take that route, whereas threatening to close out of some sort of bitterness will gain them only our disdain. It doesn't come across as righteous indignation in the slightest, but instead as whiny foot-stamping. You seem relatively reasonable. You don't seem like a troll, in any case. I appreciate your desire to see both sides of the issue, but in this case there really is only one side: the site owner does not have to charge for content, with the options available to him/her, but he/she does it anyway. As such, it would appear that he/she is doing so for commercial gain, and this is in blatant violation of the EULA, which he/she agreed to. I'm sure that there may be other circumstances, but quite frankly that is a moot point. The creator has options and is not using them. If that is for anything other than a desire to make some cash, then that is pure laziness. And if it is out of greed, which is what appearances imply to an outside observer, then his/her actions are simply breaking the rules that were agreed to in the first place. It's as simple as that. I have not always been militantly anti-paysite. My opinions have always been on the side of the pirates (not just because of the EULA, but because I feel free sites are far more beneficial to the CC community as a whole), but I never used to get involved in the debate, or make my opinion widely known. I simply grew disgusted with the behavior of some of the larger and more morally corrupt sites out there. And as I've read and researched more, and gotten to know more members of the community (most of whom are anti-paysite, but some of whom are relatively ambivalent), my opinions have solidified. You are not the only one who looks at both sides of the issue, so please don't pat yourself on the back too much (and don't consider that an attack of some kind, because I respect an open-mind, but I also respect taking a stand for your beliefs). ;) With that said, I'm not sure if the Shopping List is the best place to continue this conversation (someone correct me if I'm wrong; I know the topic came up here and all, but you'll get a lot more discussion and attention elsewhere, and this no longer has a whole lot to do with the List). EDIT: Hec moved it just as I posted it...thankies. EDIT AGAIN: Ash moved it, so thankies to Ash. So in that case, I guess, thanks for nothin' Hec! ;) Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: tIIsuggas on 2008 May 21, 14:57:20 Pirate Panda, if you care so much for the site, why not ask them to go free, and you donate enough money to keep the site running. You are obviously quite passionate about keeping the content available.
I'm sure that if the site is as loved as you say, the fans wouldn't hesitate to donate if there was any chance the site might close. Files do not have to be exchanged for money. Take the Wicked Nouk Family of sites for instance. They are well loved and respected, they needed donations to keep afloat and they got them within days. They are all 100% free. The same goes for SublimeSims site. There is no excuse for selling Sims 2 files. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: calalily on 2008 May 21, 15:01:28 EDIT: Hec moved it just as I posted it...thankies. Ash moved it. :) Pirate Panda, if you care so much for the site, why not ask them to go free, and you donate enough money to keep the site running. You are obviously quite passionate about keeping the content available. Yeah, that's a good solution. You donate enough money that the owner is satisfied with, and will have the whole site free. Otherwise, one backward step would have *every single* paysite getting their fans to beg off for the same reason, and paysites would prosper unchecked. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: dorquemada on 2008 May 21, 15:18:09 This is one site where I actually don't mind buying their items at all. Dude, you are being hypocritical here. See, PMBD wants all paysites dishonored and vanquished - because the practice itself is lowly and shameful - and the movement has nothing to do with seller's personality. And - all does not mean "All but run by nice people I like". Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Anouk on 2008 May 21, 15:23:31 If the owner needs donations to stay afloat, they can get them pretty easily. As you've said they have plenty of fans who would help them out, so there's no reason to sell copyrighted content (both Eidos and EA for poop's sake >:() .
Now they are threatening their own fans to close down if they share the content they are selling illegally, using guilt trips and holding their content over your heads. Are you seriously trying to defend this disgusting behaviour? As you've seen, the answer is YES, if the content is offered to this site, it will be posted. It's competely legal and ethical to share Sims 2 content freely with everyone, and PMBD is doing just that. If the creator decides to take all items offline, it's their choice and responsibility. If they do not want to stay around because people post stuff for free, that they are selling illegally, then it's their choice. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: MinervaMac on 2008 May 21, 15:45:34 What Nouk said. Let's look at the facts there, these people are threatening to close down their site if their work continues to be distributed in the booty. I don't know about anyone else but to me that is one big red flashing neon sign with 'WE JUST CARE ABOUT THE MONEY' written on it. Well if that's their attitude then to hell with them.
Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: alia on 2008 May 21, 15:48:58 Wait, I'm confused. What site is this?
But if someone shares this site's items, we won't get a second chance, because this is our second chance. So I have to ask you this. Who is the real person being greedy and selfish here? If one person doesn't want to pay for an item, they ruin it for everyone. Is this all about the creator egotripping (i.e. "grovel and you might get the goodies") or is it about money (i.e. "I have chillun to feed!")? This clearly isn't about keeping the site free, as GC and many others pointed out, donation sets are not necessary for that, especially if you have an ardent following, like the site seems to have... (I still have no idea of what site we're talking about. :-[) Anyways, to me this smells like the good old drama-llama attitude; "Grovel, worship me and my creations and do as I say or I will take my toys and go home!" In other words, it's 12ness. ::) Pirate Panda, I get it that you don't want to lose the site, but do you really want to encourage the creator's drama-llama tendencies? I would not, if I were you. Also, if they indeed pull the site, what is there to worry about? The donation items will be in the booty and the rest of the stuff will be in the graveyard. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Zazazu on 2008 May 21, 15:55:50 So I have to ask you this. Who is the real person being greedy and selfish here? Easy answer: the paysite owner. The site owner has no rights to charge for their product. Further, they are legally barred from doing so according to both EA's EULA and Square Enix's EULA. You cannot charge money for someone else's copyright. Period. End-o-story. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Jojoba on 2008 May 21, 16:29:19 Hey, guys. We host pay content in the booty as its not freely shared and accessible. Currently no one can download that FF7 content as it is locked from them, unless they pay to. Maybe the site owner should think about that mm? And if you did properly read the small discussion in the Booty Shopping List thread between myself and L Lawliet, you will see that it includes myself advising them to contact the site owner about going free, and them saying they will do so and sharing their items in the booty is the last thing to do. Quote Obviously, this person isn't in it for the money, or they wouldn't threaten to close their site. How much of the content on that site is free and how much can only be download (and also only viewed...) unless you have paid? ..However their intentions and purposes don't really come into the equation...if you have pay items then they will go into the booty. If you don't want that to happen, then there is only one thing that will change, and that is that the site owner makes the content free. If you do not want the items to go in the booty then it is very simple - talk to the site owner about going free. That is what L Lawliet is doing currently. We always prefer to see sites go free then close, and thats what would hope to happen with this site in question Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Paden on 2008 May 21, 16:38:32 Pirate Panda, you are an enabler. It's people like you that allow and encourage pay sites to flourish with your sloppy and sycophantic devotion to a person that makes content for money and only money. I don't believe that this person is the only one able to make content that mirrors Final Fantasy 7, not at all. There are many talented free creators that could do just as well, if not better, but the thing is that they may not have the interest. Besides, have you considered that maybe Square Enix may not want their designs and likenesses put into a game not even put out by their own company, but into the game of a competitor?
Sure, I understand that you love the game and the characters, being married to a player of all the Final Fantasy games from when they came out here in the States on the Nintendo game systems. Thing is, you have got to draw the damn line somewhere. The person may may some wonderful recreations of the Square Enix characters, but she's making a profit off of not only one, but two, different companies. She's not entitled to do that, she's in clear violation of copyright. Or didn't you think about that? Some companies don't mind if you create reproductions of their likenesses, as long as you aren't selling them. Have you ever considered that she could get her ass into a huge amount of trouble for the fact that she's selling these things when she doesn't have written permission to do so? She is taking someone else's property and selling it, kinda like fencing stolen items. And yes, it is steealing because, as I said, she's making money off of something that she has no legal rights to sell. If she was to show that yes, indeed, she had written and legally binding consent from both EA Games and Square Enix, then there'd be no trouble about it. She doesn't though, so there is. You may not like it, but we're not gonna make exceptions for anyone. If she just wants to create and have enough cash to keep her site going, she would do well to go free and ask for donations. Or you could pony up the dough yourself, as has been suggested before. We're not going to let her slide because of her talent or whatnot, because we are not hypocrites. If you're so damn afraid you're not going to get the kind of content you want so badly in your game, learn to make it yourself so you can quit your damn grizzling! Honestly, does the sun shine out of this person's unmentioned regions that you are so adamant and passionate about us leaving her alone? It ain't happening. By all means, write to her and ask if she would consider going free because many of the people who sub would probably rather help support a quality free site so that all can get the content rather than lording it over others that they can get stuff that the lowly masses cannot. Unless their real assholes, in which case they need whacked up side the head with an Atwat creation. List the alternatives that she has and tell her that while we don't enjoy sending talented creators running for the hills, we will do so in order to close down a pay site. Pay sites are illegal, immoral, and unethical. They go against the spirit of what the creators of the game were about. We're not hypocrites here, by the way. No matter how much we may adore a creator's items or regard the person in the highest esteem, if they have pay files, donation files or whatever the hell they want to call them, the damn things are gonna be in the booty. We don't make exceptions. For anyone. There is content in the booty that many of us would prefer not to be there, but guess what? It's from a pay site, so there it sits. You can't ride the fence on this one because the damn thing is made of razor wire and sooner or later, you're gonna get cut in half the most painful way. Make up your mind and stop the waffling. If your pay content is so goddamn precious to you that you encourage her depredations against the community, shut the hell up and get the fuck out. If you finally understand that there can be no exceptions for anyone, no matter how well-loved their stuff is, then welcome and have some rum. Make up your mind. Sit down and question your own ethics on this issue. The goal of this site is to either shut them down, or liberate them. I myself, would much rather see them liberated, having a soft spot for the Final Fantasy series. But then again, I've found some damn good FF content over at MTS 2. I suggest that you check them out. If you're just a fan of one of their games, though, what fun is that? There are many adventures to be had in the realms of FF and you don't need to seal yourself into only one of them. But don't come here and demand/beg that we not carry out our stated mission. It don't work. And if you are the owner of that damn site, grow up and check out the copyright laws before someone reports you to the original company! I happen to know that Square Enix is much more determined about keeping to themselves the money to be made off of their products, images included. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: redisenchanted on 2008 May 21, 18:45:36 Hmm, this site caught my eye earlier today, but I didn't bookmark it and Google isn't helping. It looks to me like they are using Dark Lunaris/Lunar Eclipse's work and I didn't notice any credit. I could be wrong, I quickly lost interest when I realized it was a paysite. Anyone have a link handy?
For the OP: it's about principle. If your stuff is pay, it will probably wind up in the booty. End of story, no exceptions, no extra credit points for being nice, talented or a spoiled brat that will take all their toys and go home. ::) This argument will get you nowhere here. You haven't been trollish or obnoxious, but you obviously don't "get" this site. ETA: Here's the link http://silverwindclub.web.fc2.com/vincent.htm Isn't the outfit by Dark Lunaris/Lunar Eclipse? Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Hecubus on 2008 May 21, 19:15:42 If I may... when I first joined the booty staff last winter, there was a list of paysite owners who were 'friends' and weren't to be pillaged. We found that hypocritical, so when Bluesoup souped, we made the decision that ANY site who offers content for pay would be considered a paysite, and if we got the item donated to us, we'd post it in the booty. This did get us into a bit of a fight with Numenor's item, but we felt we had to draw that line.
This is not to say we don't like some paysite owners - Sandy at Around the Sims is a doll, and I've always gotten along with the Holy Simoly kids. But if you can't get it unless you pay for it, it's a pay item. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Redikolous on 2008 May 21, 19:20:03 Can you even see what's offered for donation if you don't pay first? I don't see how you managed to get to that donation thing via the front page, redisenchanted.
I've been looking at DL's stuff on MTS2, does anyone have a link to her home page? Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: rome_raven on 2008 May 21, 20:33:47 Big error. Ignore that this is even here ::)
Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Minolia on 2008 May 21, 20:52:52 I think Rome Raven was thinking of the wrong DL. :D
Dark Lunaris goes by Lunar Eclipse at MTS2. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Minolia on 2008 May 21, 21:03:19 Doh realises Red had already seen the MTS2 stuff. :P
Glasscigarette - I think DL has talked about getting a website but still hasn't quite gotten round to it, or at least I've never found it during my online stalking. ;D Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: alia on 2008 May 21, 21:51:18 ETA: Here's the link http://silverwindclub.web.fc2.com/vincent.htm If you want to download that sim, you need to follow the link on that page that leads to MTS2. ::) Clearly the owner is aware that there are other options than just going pay, s/he's just doing it for the monies. Oh, and the way the owner wants to manipulate people into sucking it up and paying is making me very mad. I hate manipulators with a passion. >:( Oh, and the free stuff on that site is nice but nothing spectacular, IMO. DL's stuff is much better, and she's not manipulating anyone, she just likes to share. DL rocks. ;D Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: redisenchanted on 2008 May 21, 21:58:38 OK, so have we concluded that it's not Lunar Eclipse/Dark Lunaris' stuff? Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Saraswati on 2008 May 21, 22:05:03 Panda, I'm not strongly probooty.. I don't use it because I would prefer to only use content that people want me to use... I'm mainly a free site person who wishes paysites didn't exist at all.
However this is one time I 100 percent line up with Pescado. People deciding to take their toys and go home is NO reason to accede to their request. If they flounce, they flounce and that is their problem. The community is better without drama queens. Give it a short period and someone else will start making FF sims. Or you could make it yourself.. Unless of course you're the siteowner and you're here to try a guise to get your stuff out of the booty. And the big difference with DL's stuff would maybe be because DL does it for love rather than filthy lucre? Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: alia on 2008 May 21, 22:08:17 OK, so have we concluded that it's not Lunar Eclipse/Dark Lunaris' stuff? She has no links to DL in her MTS2 downloads, so I assume it's all her own work. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Amazone on 2008 May 21, 22:20:20 She is making her own items. She is here at MTS2:
sephiroth1 http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=278159 Many thanks for the reply, Captain, and some good advice. :'( Do you have any IDEA what you are talking about? If any siteowner should be in the booty, that's for sure her! If you are a member there, you should know how much you have to pay for 1 single item. Let me tell you since you not seem to reveal how greedy this siteowner is: These are Final Fantasy VII characters, and their items are not superiour over other items. Hair: Zack: $3usd Rufus: $3 Tseng: $2 Angeal: $2 Reno: $3 Vincent: $3 Yazoo: $3 --------------- total $19USD for 7 different hairstyles who is not at all marvellous, some of them have even small gaps. But you don't only want the hair, do you? You want the clothes as well, right? Then you have to pay $10USD for 4 outfits. This is getting very expensive, if you will like to pay for the set, you are now going to pay $29 for 7 hairstyles - and 4 outfits. Okay, you think this is expensive, but you would love to have the model Zack. But you know, that is really not a problem. She is so nice </insert ironic> to give you a gift, IF you pay for Zacks hair and outfit, then you'll get a gift, the model from FF7 made of a skinton from SimCibbling. But who will only play with Zack? This is after all FF7, so you must have Rufus as well, And Angeal and the other figures. Free gift when people donate Rufus hair and Suite And further.... For those who don't make the models themself, or are not so clever to do that, means you have to pay to get the model. This is a role play game, so why use sims 2 for playing Final Fantasy, when you can buy the game?? This is not meant as CHILLING! this is meant as a very good advice! Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: deelink on 2008 May 22, 00:48:34 All paysite files should be made available in the booty. *shrugs* I don't see anything different here, apart that she is charging that much money for Square Enix's character designs, and implementing on EA/Maxis technology.
Who is the real thief here? Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Saraswati on 2008 May 22, 01:10:42 Pirate Panda, I'm sorry but we want anyone who's trying to rip off the Sims community to that level to shut themselves down. It's extortion. let them flounce.
Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Paden on 2008 May 22, 01:15:36 Pirate Panda, do yourself a favour and take yourself to a doctor and get cured of your cranial rectal inversion, there are plenty of people out there better than her at making this stuff and they do it for free. What kind of jackass makes threats like that and then charges for re-colours of Maxis shit? Morons and inbred fools that should be stopped from breeding. Methinks a good stiff shot of chlorine to the gene pool would rid us of people like them. After seeing what she put up on her/your site, I can only say this for you/her: Thus is demonstrated the the type that would go to the zoo and throw excrement at the monkeys. Grow up and shut up. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Quinctia on 2008 May 22, 06:56:05 What the hell?
I've had Final Fantasy characters in my game for years, before that site ever existed, and I got all the stuff I use for free, and there isn't anything particularly special about this person's site or their content. It's not like they've even made everyone. I'm trying to remember the name of the creator who made most of the stuff I use, but I'm drawing a blank. I'll have to go look it up later. Even freaking ROSE offers her FF stuff for free, BTW. So this creator isn't the only one making content for the fandom and, even if they were, they're still playing other fans for a fool and charging money for someone ELSE'S copyrighted and trademarked material, and against the EULA for the game. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: L Lawliet on 2008 May 22, 08:42:35 Not only did you misunderstand my accusations, panda, but you have turned it into a form of senseless drabble.
I was turned away from SilverWind when I approached politely and asked them to simply make their content free, for the sole purpose of the copyright reagrding Square Enix as a start and then further expressing the issues regarding the EA End User License Agreement. They refused to discuss with me any further and now they will feel my wrath. I was concerned about them taking their stuff down before someone could get it for the Booty. When someone does and if they close after that, then it's tough. If they wish to act like an immature child and throw all their toys out of the pram then I'll let them. And I own FFVII, but you can exactly play around with the characters as well as you can in the Sims 2. The difference being that FFVII is an RPG, and the Sims 2 is a sandbox-like game. You can do nearly anything you want with the Sims 2, so after I finally got fed up of playing FFVII's predictable story over and over I chose to put them in the Sims 2 and experiment. It's more entertaining to a certain extent. Watching Sephiroth set fire to his oven, get abducted by aliens and then get fired from work is just a handful of stuff that makes me glad I put them in the game. And whenever you find the link, Quinctia, to that site you mentioned. Be sure to post it. If it turns out SilverWind stole content and is claiming it as their own, we can hurt them even more. Someone should get this in the Booty though, the manners of this siteowner are not acceptable. Hypotetically speaking, if PMBD should not care getting her stuff in the booty, then go to piratebay, and beg them not put her stuff up - sheesh, imagine asking the guys over there.. We are probably too kind to you. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: L Lawliet on 2008 May 22, 09:28:25 I use to own a website that was just about to start publishing free SIms 2 content. But then it went bust because we didn't have time to manage it...with me and my friends and sister being at college or university nobody could look after the site. And eventually we ran out of money to keep it because nobody was donating to us (our content was all free, we just had an optional donation if anyone felt like lending a hand in keeping us running) or offering to become staff members.
We still have a site name, but it's our old one ( dbz-pokemon.com ) and it's closed at the moment because we still don't have enough time to manage it. We're going to start submitting our Final Fantasy, Death Note and various other Anime and Game content on Modthesims2 as soon as we fix the whole packaging issues. We can't mesh, but my sister is a really good recolourer. She made Kaneda's outfit from AKIRA with just the DJ outfit from Nightlife, and at first glance it looks like a brand new mesh. When Pirate Panda was talking about the high quality and the uniqueness of the items on that site, I was expecting something on the level of DL, or something. Instead, the stuff is OK. And i have all of them already from MTS2: (http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/tymnia/Rufushair.jpg) (http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/tymnia/Zackshair.jpg) (http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/tymnia/angealhair.jpg) (http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/tymnia/rufus.jpg) Some outfits: (http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/tymnia/rufusClothes.jpg) (http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/tymnia/rufusKids.jpg) (http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/tymnia/vincent.jpg) These hairstyles with 4 outfits cost a player nearly $30 And, she is not done with that. There are still tons of items she will her for these items? Is she having a dream of beeing a billionaire or something? The prices are ridicilous! I mean.. come on, she can sell dolls on Ebay instead, but this is pure theft. And Pandy pirate, i suspect you are sepiroth1, and i am sure the items will end up in the booty, but i am not going to "hurt" you with it. I have other stuff i feed the booty with :P Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: alia on 2008 May 22, 19:28:53 So, Luna/Amazone (please, change your name back to Amazone), you seem to have an access to the super zeckrit pay section. I'm curious, so could you post pictures of the pay items? So you don't like my nickname? :'( Nah, it's just that you changed your name and your avi at the same time. I could not figure out who you were untill Cala told me in another thread. Thanks for the pics. Those sims should be easy to sculpt in bodyshop. The rest of the stuff isn't that special, IMO, except for that red hair, and I think there is a free version of that hair at MTS2. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: glasscigarette on 2008 May 22, 19:45:30 The rest of the stuff isn't that special, IMO, except for that red hair, and I think there is a free version of that hair at MTS2. I couldn't agree more. The red hair is decent, even if it's not something I would ever use (and not just because I don't have FF characters in my game). Not only is most of it nothing special, most of it is downright amateurish. That blonde Rufus hair...wow. What a horrid color choice. I have nothing against bright blondes, but that's practically crayon-colored, not to mention unpleasantly shaded. Anyone willing to pay money for that ought to seriously reconsider their claims to sanity. And I think it's funny, but not at all surprising, that Panda hasn't come back to defend her claims. I think most of us have already asserted that she's probably the site owner using a thinly veiled disguise in order to present her threats as something other than what they are. That seems very likely, but I'm not entirely sure. The writing style on the site is not quite identical to that of the posts. In that case, she might just be a misguided fan of the site or a friend of the site owner trying to help (and, in this case, failing miserably). Either way, at this point she knows that we will not support her quest to protect this foul site, and can't muster up any sort of defense. Either that, or she just hasn't figured out that the thread was moved off of the Shopping List. :D Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: squall on 2008 May 22, 20:40:00 I must say: the red hair is great!
but hey, it's not a fantastic website and I've seen a lot of better free stuff check those lists and you love for this site might decrease a little 8) http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Content_List:Final_Fantasy for gorgeous final fantasy content http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Content_List/Character_Sims/F for final fantasy chacters I suppose you don't need that site too much after visiting the sites above right? Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Quinctia on 2008 May 23, 04:16:13 That content list had the names I was trying to remember: Mimewhite and Shannanagins. Here's (http://fantasylostworld.online.fr/Sims2/Skinsjeuxvideo/Sims2SkinsFF.htm) a link to the FF stuff on the site where some of Mimewhite's stuff is. Some of it is better than others, but I definitely have that Aeris outfit and that Sephiroth outfit in my game. It's not all by Mimewhite, but that was the one familiar name.
Here's (http://www.modthesims2.com/creator/shannanagins) Shannanagins's page on MTS2. Of course, my rules for characters' content isn't quite as strict as some others' might be, because I decided to use my FF7 fanfic "verse" for my characters. Several years after the game, so I think it's silly to have them all in the same outfits. But I used quite a few of them. I also liked modeling the faces myself. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: L Lawliet on 2008 May 23, 06:21:52 She refuses to hand out passwords to anyone now, it seems. Not even my 3 friends can get one.
Do we have someone here who can rival her meshing? And put them on Modthesims2 for free when they've made them? Because it seems I am unable to find any other way of getting at the content now. I could ask a friand of mine to hack the site, but usually they mess around with the sites and have gotten into trouble before. (they are quite immature) So my last option is a simple request to anyone who can best the meshes; could you make a Zack outfit and hair? We've made pretty much everyone else who's 'big' in FFVII except Cait Sith and Red XIII. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Kragey on 2008 May 23, 06:28:18 I actually don't think that Reno hair is horrible. Although I haven't seen the back; it could be horribly gappy, for all I know.
Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Saraswati on 2008 May 23, 07:46:52 L Lawliet why don't you talk to Dark Lunaris and find out if she's in the mood to do it?
Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Amazone on 2008 May 23, 07:54:40 L Lawliet - that prooves only 1 thing to me, that panda pirate is the siteowner. Or have a very faithful friend. But that's ok - i guess she
has to close down her site. I don't think i have seen a more expensive payshit site before. That lady should learn a lesson. She is revealing stuff who's already free on MTS2 and with far better models and outfits. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Quinctia on 2008 May 23, 08:26:22 L Lawliet, we don't hack or encourage or suggest such a thing here. We legitimately purchase EULA-breaking site content and share it.
If this site owner is too paranoid to sell any items now, I suppose it's a sort of victory. Very self-defeating. My love for 12ness. Let me show you it. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: L Lawliet on 2008 May 23, 12:51:39 No she didn't take any money. She's just being a total bitch to my friends and making them feel like they are the criminals; she thinks they're suspicious and should be ashamed of themselves. The real person who should be ashamed, other than myself for even attempting to get anything from that site, if her. She's a money-grabbing attention whore, who looks like she's stealing other peoples work and making us pay for it. I swear I've seen a mesh for Tseng's hair and even Genesis' hair somewhere else by a totally different person...who gives them away for free and started releasing their content ages ago on MTS2.
I also stuck by my point and think hacking isn't a good idea. (not only is my friend immature but I don't want to come across as desperate for some handful of meshes. If I had the meshing technology I bet I could do better than this cheap-ass money-whore.) Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: redisenchanted on 2008 May 23, 16:03:32 Check Sapphire Sims too. They have some unusual meshes that might work. Too lazy to link, it should be easy to find.
Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: falln_angel on 2008 May 23, 17:31:42 I imagine the site owner is suspicious of anyonw right now, especially if there are a lot of requests coming in all at once. This is a small site that most of us here had never even heard of before you mentioned it - half a dozen password request in a couple of days can't possibly be the norm.
I suggest waiting a while (a week or two, maybe longer) and then trying again, with a new email of course. If she's still around that is. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: L Lawliet on 2008 June 04, 08:30:00 Nothing but greif from them, unfortunatly. I have even received a PM from another user who wants content from them, so it's not just a 'one-off' request anymore. It's a real shame this site owner is greedy, when so many other people out there are more generous...and less of an asshole than they are.
I know this may be slightly off-topic, but for other FFVII fans who want a giggle just to ease away the sheer annoyance 'SilverWind' has caused us you should check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9bu-pcYsgQ Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: silver on 2008 June 15, 23:47:18 Gotta love manipulating people (not you, of course, oh Death Note fan, but the site owner. ) And it amazes me how people can be easily manipulated. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, though.
Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Dark Lunaris on 2008 June 17, 17:38:15 OMG. This is what happens when I DISAPPEAR to play WARCRAFT for a month. I miss all the fun!
I must remind myself that even one day off PMBD is asking to miss something! Well, my name appeared many times on this topic. So I need to say something. Even though it's a little late. XD First off, no worries, the girl stole nothing from me. ^^ But I do think that if she spent six months tweaking a cape mesh as she claims she did.. and it still cuts above the arm to that extent.... perhaps she should find a new hobby. OH wait.. I'm sorry, it's not a hobby. She's doing it for the monies. :O There is so much wrong with that site I can't believe it! Firstly.. the fact that she's selling final fantasy characters that are not even her own! So she's violating EA + Squeenix. FAIL. She's obviously using Final Fantasy as a gimmick, seeing as it's got the biggest fantard following in the universe, especially FF7. Fantards are blind and mindless. Some of them would probably pay for a bag of dog crap if you said it was a collectors item released with "Dirge of Cerberus". >_> And holy hell. If you are going to charge for something and make an ass out of yourself.. at LEAST PLEASE make your own textures!!! Why do I see SimCribbling skintones on pay sims???? Every last bit of artwork better be your own! I'm sure she's got make-up or eyebrows or genetics of some sort she's selling that she did not make! I hate insulting other creators, it makes me feel bad. But this girl is asking for it. Some of those hairstyles (save for the reno one which looks decent but not worth paying for) are very 2005. They remind me of my old crappy YuGiOh hair when I did my first meshes. There are a large amount of free creators who mesh waaaay better hair. Does this girl even look at the rest of the modding community?? Or hell.. even at other paysites that offer free crap that looks better than her pay stuff? Is she blind? And the clothing textures look like click + fill + a little dab of airbrush. That = flat. No one should charge for content. But seeing her fail gallery makes me want to upload my 2005 horrors as a fake paysite for the lulz!! And if you actually click a pay link you get a redirect to http://silverwindclub.web.fc2.com/. But I'm not that mean. XD (even my old fugly YuGi sims had my own skintones... even if they did stink) Anyways, no, for anyone who needed to know. I never had my own website. Only my journal. I am supposed to do one but I keep getting sidetracked... *kicks self* As for final fantasy sims.... Sorry, I cannot offer any help with the better free alternatives campaign. I find FF7 overrated. *Attempts to escape being belted with pocky* And Sephiroth is the most overrated game villain ever. *runs from being stabbed with cardboard gunblades and masamunes* Although, I DO like Final fantasy 4, 6, and 9 very much. So I'm taking some very serious consideration into making a sim of Kuja. So... we'll have a free Kuja sim in the future I'm hoping. I <3 Kuja..... XD EDIT: FF7 was awesome. When I played it back in 1997! It was a good game, but it had it's day!! It's done. Stop making remakes that discuss the many aromas of Sephiroth's SHAMPOO!! For the love of god.. Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: L Lawliet on 2008 June 17, 20:48:35 Lunaris, I have a KUJA sim avaiable for download. But I didn't make any of the meshes or genetics. I just recoloured the outfit and the hair. Modthesims2 rejected my content. Even though I tried my best to not include ANY meshes or genetics other than my recoloured hair and clothing. But still, I am rejected.
I'll find somewhere else to upload them. The sim is for FEMALE though and the outfit is based on Kuja's Dissidia one. I'll also try to get some photo's of Kuja, but since I just bought Oblivion and have applied Final Fantasy mods (that where totally free) to that, I am finding it difficult to pull myself away from Oblivion and jump back on the sims. I am sorry for that. here's a cookie. I'd love to see! :D Kuja is a very underappreciated FF character, so is Kefka too actually. Dissidia is very exciting. I'm glad to see something with Kuja in it. I remember I looked for ages to find a poster of him.. never found one. :( Kefka must be in dissidia too... did they announce any info on that yet??? Ahahahaaa! Ah yes. Oblivion. I was going to move into modding for it, but my computer sucks right now and I can barely run sims ATM. X( I also know it's much harder to mod for it.. they are still working on animated hair last time I checked. I'll be sticking with sims for the time being, but my bro has it on his computer with some pretty sweet mods. ^^ Lol, DL! We kept mentioning your name because video game and anime sims are right up your alley, and if anyone could do one perfectly, it's you. It's good she didn't steal anything from you though. :D Lol. Yeah, that's definitely my big thing. lol It's funny though, I've had lots of art of mine put on the internet plus random sim DLs. I hear from lots of people about art theft and I see it happen, but I've never had it happen to me before (at least, not that I'm aware of)... maybe I should knock on wood. lol Dark Lunaris, you should get riled up more often. It becomes you. Wonderful post. - :D Lmao. Thanks. It's just I've seen a lot of progress being made with the community and getting rid of paysites. I'm just surprised to find more pop up and with such poor quality. It irritated me. lol Honestly... I think the loss of Aikea was hard blow to T$R and such a win for free sites. At least from my own perspective, her stuff was the only reason I ever typed in the T$R URL. Now that she's gone... what do they have??? Hair meshes that that resemble failed pottery attempts? XD Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: aSIMmetrical on 2008 June 18, 13:31:53 I do hope somebody'll manage to get that Reno hair. I don't care about FF7 Sims, but that hair is thus far the closest thing I've seen to a spiked style I've been wanting for YEARS for a character I want to Sim myself and I'd love to get my hands on it and start hacking away at the alpha.
Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Dark Lunaris on 2008 June 18, 17:34:03 Umm, I started a new thread specifically for posting free Final fantasy/Kingdom Hearts sim alternatives. I hope that was okay, as I don't think new members will think to look for such things in the replies of this thread here.
I posted some work a girl I know from LJ has done on a Seph sim too. I'm encouraging her to make more. ^^ The Free Final Fantasy Sims Retaliation Movement (http://phorum.mustnotbenamed.com/index.php/topic,1946.0.html) :D Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: L Lawliet on 2008 June 22, 13:27:21 Ah, yes. I'm a huge fan of FF9 myself. it was my first ever Final Fantasy and I've loved it for many years...even after playing 7, 9 is still my favourite. Kuja is also my favourite character, and Dissidia is very exciting indeed. Although I think Zidans voice sounds a little girly (lol) but Kuja's sounds awsome.
I too have searched for posters of Kujaku, failed...but a model of him exists, but it is very rare and I only saw it on a Japanese shopping site for around 4,000 Yen (about that much). That's around £20 and if I am correct, it would be $40 in the USA. I saw it ages ago though and can't remember where I saw it, but next time I see it I'm getting one. And I will EVENTUALLY get back on the sims 2 and take a pic of Kuja! But Oblivion is hard to pull away from....so very hard...and I heard modding it is difficult too, but I've put up a request somewhere for any experienced modders to make a Zidane OR Kuja character for it (would be a race, methinks, like the Sephiroth characters). From what I've heard, Dissidia will feature the main hero and main villain from each Final Fantasy game. Plus a few other hidden ones. So Kefka should be in the list too. If he doesn't end up in it, I'll eat my hat....even though I don't wear hats. ;D Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Plum on 2008 June 25, 00:10:40 Final Fantasy sucks anyway. They're too far apart, like apples and oranges: both fruit, but not in the same family. Or perhaps they're more like flutes and big-ass chickens. Or something.

Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Dark Lunaris on 2008 July 12, 21:22:31 Kiss my ass, FF8 was the first Final Fantasy game that I LIKED! FF nine bites balls! And yeah, I enjoy FFx_2, so NYAH! But what the hell, we can agree to disagree cause the Good only knows how many games there are out there that many play and others have never heard of. Lol. My first FF game was FF2 (FF4 JP). I loved FF9 because it was all medieval again and the storyline reminded me of the FF4 story in a lot of respects. I actually hated FF8 so much I almost did not buy nine because I shunned the series after playing it. I just hated the draw junction system. The game was too easy.. I hated Squall and Rinoa, they both annoyed me to no end as did most of the cast...the only character that amused me slightly was Zell. But I've a lot of friends who love FF8 and hate FF9 (and vice versa) so I'm used to it. :P I also hate games with too much romance, but thats simply a personal preference. :P I think from experience most people who like FF9 hate FF8 and the same goes for the other way around. I don't know a lot of people who actually like both. I also hate playing as a female character with an all female team. I'm videogame sexist (unless the girl is tough and not ditzy) but in X-2 it was like they took the female cast and turned them into bimbos... which made it even worse.... Except for Paine, but we know she was added in there as the fanservice masculine girl that guys can dream about tapping the rest of her teammates. IMO though. Totally IMO. lmao. And I hate Kingdom Hearts too. LMFAO. I hate everything. So my opinion means nothing really, I just like hearing myself type. ;D Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: missangelica on 2008 July 12, 21:45:58 It seems there can never be a discussion about FF without someone getting butthurt because inevitably someone hates on one of the games that another thinks it's the best game ever.. ::) It's silly because it shouldn't matter what someone else thinks of the game you love. You can still play it and enjoy it, right? Right. What I personally find offensive is that the person causing the butthurt is going to the trouble to upset people to begin with. There's always going to be someone in the crowd that likes a game, especially with a popular series like FF. It speaks to their character (shit stirrer) and you don't need to stoop to their level.
So go on hating 8 and X-2, Dark Lunaris. No one should give a damn but don't expect anyone to think any better of you for it either. I know I don't and I know I would feel that way even if I did agree with you, which I don't. My good buddy loves FF8 and I come in screaming it sucks at him, then he says ff9 sucks at me and we have a laugh. I didn't think anyone here was trying to be offensive either. It's just a game. (although I do tend to tear into things too much I admit, it's a bad habit). Seriously, I didn't mean to offend anyone or anything. ^^ I'm just getting too comfortable around here. :D Maybe I should talk about what I like more than what I don't like. I only played the very beginning... but I had a lot of very immature fun with how you get to name your dog and your favourite food and your friends and stuff.... oh lord... the things I'd make Ness eat for dinner.................. I should probably actually play through it though, I've heard only good things. My husband plays all Final Fantasy and loves it, but his most favourite are from Konami. Yeah, you guessed it, he loves the Metal Gear series. He's also an old school console gamer, from Nintendo to Atarii to Sega, he loves and plays them all. Sonic, Zelda, Clocktower, you name it, I think he's owned it at one time... help??

And I loved the one Phantasy Star i played - just not sure if it was 2 or 4 - whichever one that was generational - that was just so cool. I'll admit I love most any RPGs though its been a while since I've played many - I guess because for a bit they were making them as twitchy as an FPS, and that hurts my wrists. OMG Clock tower is awesome. I recently replayed it with my bro and a bunch of his friends and we were screaming like idiots at the scissor man. That game is epic. I love sonic as well. Most of my favourite games are really old ones too. I like a select few new titles, but that's all. And I totally know you were joking, that's why I started videogame ranting. I do it all the time with my friends for fun... and one of my good friends special powers is his "advanced criticism"... or so he claims.. and he pretty much attacks everything with it, regardless of who likes it. I sometimes forget people who don't talk to me often may not realize I'm fooling around when I rant. ^^ Title: Re: Random rant that was on the Booty shopping list Post by: Pooki on 2008 July 14, 14:54:34 Clock Tower was one of those games I always wanted to play and never got to. I may have to go searching for it. Hubby absolutely loved Zelda, and I was a Castlevania and Donkey Kong Jr. nut.

See, I really didn't like Star Ocean (I think it was 2 I tried). The combat system just took too long and the audio was annoying. Haven't tried Phantasy Star. For old-school RPGs, I totally prefer a non-active combat system. RPGs are what I play to relax, and having to be quick on the trigger defeats that. Earthbound, IMO, is about the best ever. I really wish they'd continued that series in earnest.
