Not exactly sure, but my best guess Army, is this is their lame attempt to cash in on the Second Life market as well as to woo back those Second Lifers who'd already ditched them. It strikes me as yet another fuck-up in a string of increasingly massive fuck-ups from this pathetic "entertainment" company.

They're rehashing The Sims Online and making it like Second Life, where you can buy and sell pixel objects and properties with real money that has been converted into fake money.

Yes come across this a while back and LOL'd - what a big crap secret thing they were working on. Unless I've massively misunderstood (in which case someone please correct me), SimsOnline is primarily free but you have the option to subscribe with real money, but can get the same bonuses of paying by actually playing the game itself...? In which case, this just shows TSR's ultimate suckiness to EA and EA's crapiness


If you search on the EA Land Site's Blog, you only get mentions of Steve, and a couple of FAs (our pal DOT too!) - none of Thomas himself hrm

What cracks me up on the first site is that in the intro text they say 'free to play', but directly to the right is the link for subscribing. And gee, if you go to TSR's site, you can use your TSR account to login....isn't THAT special.

Yes, free to play, but of course The first step is to purchase a store lot. And they have a blog post about the Best ways to make money, which by the way, includes selling custom content. And THIS is coming from EA?!!!

Boy, I always thought that EA can do better than that crappy layout. geez.

it looks like some sort of awkward sims1 online... of fail.  I was like WTF at the whole don't worry guys, we've teamed up with TSR so you can have cc in it.  bleh. 

What an epic fail.

So look what's happened here:

EA will not officially support Sims 2 paysites, because they cannot guarantee or controll quality, they do not want to be responsible for copyright violations, etc. They are far too late to support paysites for Sims 2.

So instead of protecting their customers from scammers, they let the paysites and pirates be, and move on to an opportunity where they can support usermade pay items, with quality controll and guarantee, with them overseeing wether copyrights aren't being broken, right from the beginning, and making money out of it. They use TSR for marketing this because they are targeting the Sims audience, who's allready eager to pay money for stuff packs, pay items and subscriptions, and are generally fond of things like Second life.

This is a testrun for what Sims 3 will be like, folks. A smart move for a company like EA.

Personally, I will not enjoy a game like Sims 3 if it will be riddled with adds and people selling custom content. There will be much less innovation, because the key people that do that kind of thing, the modders, are usually not at all attracted to shit like Second Life and those creepy furry communities that are out there. Another thing that will make EA very happy, since they have more controll over every developement, and can choose when, how, and how much it will make them at any time.

They won't loosen their grip on The Sims 3, unlike the (relative) freedom they had granted to the creators before.
There's too much extra money in it, and they won't make that 'mistake' this time.
For a company that sees its purpose to get as much money as possible out of you (not entertain you) it's only natural.  >:(
I hope they have the foresight to be aware of all the people (who are an active part of the Sims 2 community) not willing to be a part of this farce.

Well if this is a test run for what they want to do for Sims 3, I have yet another reason not to want it.

WTF, do they think Sims online will succeed now after failing once? With Sims 1 crappy graphics that you have to PAY FOR??  :o I have zero interest in creepy Second Life and I don't know many simmers who do.

EA constantly gives us more reason to hate them. I guess that's their new strategy.  ::)

It does beg the question, at the dawning of sims3 talk, what would possess you to bring back a sims 1 game look, and compare it to sims 2, but online.

the people working for EA are mates with TSR. I read the blog written by Luc of CC chairs comes to TC3. But that was written in december 2007. TSR is mentioned several times, and Steve, the owner of TSR.  What on earth are they really up to? I am not interested in this either.

To be honest, I am not at all surprised! I have just learned of all the "misdealings" going on at TSR. And with the shitty way EA has been going lately with poorly made products and now patches, including TSR into the mix just about sums it up just right.

Another stupid move! Way to go EA! Keep driving away your business! You're on the right tracK now!  ::)

The Sims 2 just reached 100 million in units sold.
I wish they were running out of money, but alas. They know how to monopolise the dream scenario. Let's see if this will sink or swim.
I personally have 0 interest in it.  :P

That's not really that huge of a number. Besides, total quantity sold doesn't mean as much as sale trends... I want to see the line graphs. I suspect those are plummeting.

I am sure it takes all Sims 2 games including the laptop Stories plus all EP's and various console flavours to make that number. I happen to think that 100 million is a LOT.
My main argument here is... that they are not running out of money. Part of me is happy about that because hey... I like The Sims. I want to play for as long as I can. Is there a crime in that?
Of course there is another part of me who realise this company is releasing buggy ass games and Ep's, who don't look after their customers and who royally fuck everyone over with their blase, Oh Im so rich and above you mere meal tickets SECUROM ass bastards! Arr!
So in all arbitary fairness, I buy the first 3 and Arr the rest. And look.. it doesn't even make a difference. Funny that. :P

TSR lost out on another cash cow, EA Land is now closing  ;D ;D ;D

TSR lost all the money they put into that site. I am hoping within six months to a year tsr will be dead. With their best artists leaving TSR, how will they make money? Maybe they might raise prices or hold sales on tsr t-shirts?

I am hoping EA learned from their little experiment, paysites are not what the community wants. I am glad members of EA Land are pissed, sad that they lost money. I am overjoyed that an EA/TSR venture is pissing off the sheep. That makes me grin, really big! Grin

As long as there's 12 year olds with lots of money, they'll keep putting out unrelated product just to cash in on the Sims. First there were the Stuff Packs, then Life Stories and a bunch of stuff not even related to the Sims at all, such as those arcade games.

We'll probably get canned pasta or possibly even toilet paper next.

Absolutely nothing. EA seem to like slapping the Sims name on whatever they can. Hence my toilet paper comment.

Apparently it was a popular site and so EA "acquired" it just like they do with game companies.  They slapped the Sims name on it hoping to make some more dough off their cash cow.

I think their cash cow has a massive case of mastitis. It just ain't producing the same quality as before and is in fact, rather sour and nasty.

And gamey. Don't forget gamey. I'm waiting for everything to implode when TS3 comes out. This is the only game I know of where the more info they release about the game, the less people want to buy it.

I'm glad EA Land closes. From what I read on the blog they had only one person who approved fanstuff, so a lot of stolen content popped up in the game. Whenever one of the original artists came and complained EA just deleted the fanstuff with no compensation for the buyers.
If I had spent 150$ of my real money to buy custom content just to come back to my house later and find nothing but worthless placeholders because the cc became disapproved... oh boy, I can't understand how people could stick to that game for so long!

For someone who worked "so closely" with EA on this TSR kept a rather low profile in the blog, Simfreaks was much more prominent. I also noticed a fat EA Land banner on Simfreaks1 lately. Guess there's more than one paysite crying about lost profits now.  ::)

I got into the beta for Sims Carnival, it's rather eh in my opinion.

Why is "EA-Land" still up? wtf is it? I don't understand it...don't think I WANT to.  Sims Carnival has absolutely NOTHING to do with Sims (surprise, surprise). And I'm getting quite sick and tired of seeing the Sims name slapped onto any and everything.  TheSimsOnStage used to be Singshot.com, and after EA teamed up with them to do a contest involving singing Lily Allen's "Smile" in Simlish, they ate it up entirely.

I don't understand EA-Land but the name itself guarantees I would have stayed away, anyway.  Did TSR lose a lot of money? plz say yes.  And, more importantly, will this prevent a possible EA-TSR "reunion" in the future?

Real life (though there is no such thing) was holding me hostage, but I managed to escape ;) So now I'm slowly getting back into things and reading what's been going on while I've been gone.  This "EA-Land" filth shocked me but I'm glad to learn it has now melted into a pile of fail :)
