I was at a family event this weekend and missed this so forgive me if I post to something a while back. LDG acts like the world revolves around her and everyone should bow down and worship her. Big frigging woop de doo. Grow up and get a frickken life! So the Community didn't worship at the awesomeness which is you. Big deal. If you really made content for the love of the game, you wouldn't care. If they offered you honest critiques and you could see what they said was correct or helpful, you'd thank them. But because they didn't immediately think you were the greatest creator since the beginning of time, you flounced and got huffy and took your toys elsewhere. Go pedal your drama elsewhere dearie, it's boring and old news.

Woot! I love those. Those are better than the ones I found and I can't remember the sites name now. I think it was Around the Sims. And these are updated!

Snagged and going in game!

What does he think he is doing? Trying to corral all the Sims Fansites into TSR?Huh? Is he that worried that TSR will crash and burn? Thomas really dear, grow up. Your temper tantrums are getting old.
94  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: TSR Sharing your infomation! on: 2009 February 24, 14:57:15
I cannot tell as TSR doesn't have the list up currently. I know Holy Simoley was on their fan site list last I checked.
95  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: TSR Sharing your infomation! on: 2009 February 24, 14:43:58
It happens on a Mac too. I just went to check it out. Thought you all would like to know. I'm using Safari as my browser.

We used to call people crazy all the time when I was a kid. It didn't mean they were certifiably, lock them up in the nuthouse, crazy, just well, different. I have agree with most folks here that Atwa wants the attention so she acts out to get it. Before we made fun of her creations and now it's her actions to get back into TSR's good graces and get hired back. I agree with Darqstar, she could lose some weight, get a make over and cut her hair and look different. Maybe not model stunningly gorgeous, but at least look nice.

What makes Thomas so ugly are his actions. Using people's medical conditions to line TSR's bank account, getting forums closed for no reason, hacking sites are just some of his childish actions.

I would say a lot of us who play the Sims are children at heart. We like to play with our "dollies" and "doll houses". Yes, we can get silly and not act like adults at times, but over all I've not seen anything here that would make me run screaming from the room. Thankfully, we can have discussions like this and we all agree to disagree. At least we're not running around like the FA's acting like someone's added more to the KoolAid over there.

What I do want to say though is that Thomas has shown remarkebly poor judgement all accross the board. He seriously needs to decide whether he wants the TSR peeps to be friends, slaves or employees, becase you can't have your cake and eat it too.
My father runs a rather lage company. He does not personally know all the people that work for him. He pays them for their work and talks to them often, but he doesn't know who they are outside the factory. So he knows better than to waltz unto the workfloor showing pictures of his newly adopted cousin or the house he's building in France. That's just common sense and has noting to do with the internet stealigng our privacy and so on.

It's the same with Thomas and the FAs. Either they're his friends and he needs to stop paying them for their work and cracking the whip, or they're his employees and he needs to keep a professional distance. A decent boss can't be both a manager and your best buddy, especially not in a very large company. The reverse is also true. Don't try to be friends with the guy who writes your paycheck. As soon as the exchange of money is involved, it's hard to talk friendship.
He choose to brag to a bunch of employees. Apparently, one of these employees isn't as much of a friend as he thought. Thomas is a big boy and he doesn't need us or anyone else to watch out for him and hold his hand on the mean old intartubes. He made a very poor decision. If he's suffering because of it, that's entirely his fault.

I know that in your eyes, his incredibly poor managment skills aren't reason enough to have these pictures redistributed, but I'm still of the opinion that the people who were being lied to ('sub money pays for server costs') had a right to the truth. If a real reporter caught wind of something fishy going on in the management of, for example, a multinational company, I'd also expect that person to sound the alarm and gather the troops. If there's a reasonable chance you've discovered a truth that was purposefully being hidden by those who benefit from it (as is the case here), I would go so far as to say that it's your duty to get the word out.

But, again, we're talking opinions here.

I worked for a large corporation here in the US. No, I didn't know the CEO personally nor did he know my name or me from any other of the thousands the company employed. Certainly he didn't waltz into our office and start flashing around pictures of the latest yacht he bought with the outrageous salary the company paid him. Thomas has the morals and ethics of a snake oil salesman. I know TSR is smaller than the company I worked for, but he needs to grow up and take responsibility for running the site as a business (right or wrong it is a business) and stop acting like a 7 year old because someone stole his toys and he decides to get back at them.

Solander you have made some very interesting points and I would never know that English was not your native tongue. I do think you have given us good reason to stop and pause for a moment to make sure we are on track with what we hope to do here. And I thank you for speaking your mind.

TSR should be destroyed because of all the underhanded practices they employed over the past few years. Any business which engaged in such practices (at least in the US) would have been shut down, the owners prosecuted, fined and possibly jailed. "The Insider" is a film about the American Tobacco industry. Coconut is like the "insider" in the film blowing the whistle on TSR.

I feel sorry for the person who was intended to be "Mr. Meal Ticket" (to use Coconut's name for him). If you are reading this, I will keep you in my thoughts. Toma$$ has shown his true colors now. He is the lowest form of life there is. I am so glad I let my sub run out at T$R.

99  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: More Smutty Than You: TSR's Hall of Shame on: 2009 February 20, 15:39:56
Agreed Darqstar. You get warnings at the BBS because you mention InSim which *gasp* changes the PG13 rating of the game. Yet, I have seen nothing at InSim (the main site not ISA) which could cause the parents to go screaming and saying "You have smut on your site!". Yet, that is why we have this thread when you look at the content that screams this is not PG13!

TSR claims to have the happy rainbow glittery pretty pony site where all is lollipops and daffodils. Children can play and run free in the grass and no smut on our site! But when you look at the content, it makes you wonder what they consider PG13.

As for the ads, it makes you wonder what ad service they signed up for. Not knowing anything about the ad services for web sites, shouldn't there be some kind of filter to block certain kinds of ads on your site? And no, I am not against gay dating, just the hypocrisy of TSR claiming to be oh so above the common masses that wallow in the mud of smut.

Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom was on before the Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights when I was a kid. Disney did a nature series called True Life Adventures, but had nothing to do with Wild Kingdom which was a separate show.

Yes, Wild Kingdom did some pretty crazy stunts even before (rest his soul in peace) Steve Irwin was wrestling crocs. "Watch now as Jim holds the python" at which point poor Jim would get tangled with some python and struggle in the background as Marlin Perkins gave some information on the snake, animal, whatever. Apparently Animal Planet shows the show in syndication now.

I remember that and they nearly had kittens over the Oscars using a likeness of Snow White. Well, that was when Eisner was in control. Not sure if they've mellowed a bit since then.
102  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Your Ugliest Paysite Creation Find: Round Two. on: 2009 February 16, 19:37:04
You mean this lexicon? It's the only one I'm familiar with and I faintly recall that there were past issues in regards to rights and possibly being closed down.

Yes, that's the one.

Skoria_Bay he does still have the site, and LadyDea, that is the one. His publisher kept telling him that it would be fine because he wrote the stuff. The publisher felt that even though it used quotes from the book, they could still publish it and give credit to Rowlings.

siberiansunset, yeah we know who would win that. But I would love to hear the argument TSR puts up. What on earth could they possibly say that would make what they are doing legal?

That is true the publisher was telling him it was ok, but Rawlings proved her case in court and barred the publication of the book.

Some companies have given money to EA to advertise their products in the game (Ford for instance) so they could care less if they got a letter, but I'm sure companies like Disney, Warner Brothers, Lucasfilms, Marvel (I could go on) would not be happy to see their images used. However, the thing is would they take notice and do something about it.

I'm not saying it is right for paysites to profit, but it is a form of praise that people do want to have items like this in their games. I've even seen other game characters recreated for the Sims (Laura Croft, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Zelda to name a few). It would be interesting if someone could research and see how these companies would react to this.

You mean those a*holes who are sueing children for having Harry Potter websites?

What?!  Linky, please.

What I think rum was referring to was the site that wants to publish the Harry Potter encyclopedia/lexicon.  Rowlings has a HP encyclopedia in the works and is trying to stop the website from making money in publishing theirs.

JK Rowlings won the suit against the guy so hers will be the official encyclopedia. She didn't mind it as a fan site, but when he wanted to publish it under his own name saying he had written most of it (when it was mainly quotes from the books), so she sued him. I don't think he has the website any more either.

There is a difference between doing something for fun and something to get a paycheck. I've seen people do some amazing work and while I may not download it, still doesn't mean I can't appreciate it.

I went looking a while ago to put some Sears Catalogue homes in my game. I've found some fabulous ones on MTS2 and then I looked on TSR. Most of the ones on TSR are really horrible compared to the one creator in MTS2. This was when I still had a subscription at TSR and so I downloaded the few I liked. They are really nice in game, but the others I am so glad I didn't download. teril02 does other homes too and they look really nice.

Calalily's stuff looks fun and I'm glad she does have time to make things. And I thank you for them.

I agree with Darqstar, I've seen some really good creators suddenly start throwing together crap because they want to make quota. And then I've seen some free creators take an amazing amount of time and put together some really fun stuff. No, I am not that talented to make meshes or recolor. But I thank those that do take their time (Their time mind you) to make something for the community.

But people like Dot and Evi probably won't ever improve (even if they went free) as they think their stuff is perfect and pretty and oh, so lovely.

Edit: Looked up the creator's name

I fault the teacher as well. Granted not everyone can keep up with the latest research on everything, but still. And to say "Jesus created the internet"Huh? That student got a C, but still that should have been an F.

We were always told when writing term papers or research papers we  had to have a least two sources and quote and provide them. And that was before the internet. Why teachers still don't do that, I don't know.
