Title: The people of the sims2 community!
Post by: Hyperkitty on 2007 January 03, 00:55:13
Has anyone else noticed how many people from the S2C forums are joining the dark side? Nouk, happycowlover, discordkitty, me( I'm hyperkitty21 over there) etc.
I just think that it is quite amusing how many people that have joined the dark side.

Just because posters (I'm thinking specifically discordkitty and nouk) sign up here, doesn't mean they actually participate in filesharing or believe in it.  They could come for the free speech and the chance to say pretty much whatever they want here. :)

File sharing? Well I get stuff from buddies sometimes so I'm not against it. I don't know anyone who doesn't do it. If you've bought something, you can share it with someone in my opinion.
However I would not put up another creators stuff on a website, simply because I'm a creator myself and I wouldn't like that either.
I couldn't care less for a paysite losing money over this, simply because it's not even allowed to sell this in the first place.

'd say people are coming cause of filesharing and FREEDOM of SPEECH. One issue I see alot people having thoughts and posts censored or deleted elsewhere. That doesnt even allow for good debate, have to tiptoe here or cant say this, maybreak some rule and get banned,

I wouldn't say I've joined the dark side... I still wear a big white hat and rose-coloured glasses and fight for puppies and christmas...  but some recent discussions have (at least partially) changed a lot of my previously-held opinions.  And though some of ya'll may act like gaping assholes a lot of the time, there are some interesting discussions that happen here among the stupid ones, which is mainly why I'm here.

Post by: HystericalParoxysm on 2007 January 03, 06:40:45
I didn't say you were all stupid.  Just that some of the discussions are stupid sometimes.  It's an internet forum - one devoted to arguing about content for pixel dollies, which is a remarkable base level of stupid.  It's a stupid game, and we're stupid for playing it, and now stupid me is gonna finish editing this post.  :D

Title: The people of the sims2 community!
Post by: Soup Parrot on 2007 January 03, 06:49:26
Pixel dollies are going to be pushed aside for spore. Galactic rule possibilities more exciting than playing Pleasantville in Winter, snowing full of glitches. Designing creatures I dont' have to buy wardrobe, furnishings, sounds like a nice change. Try to imagine the forums for Spore, people sniping when they found out that A exterminated B's race from his game or something. Or made C race who was peaceful, evil overlords. Of course, you got to evolve first, thats going to be a hoot.

I used to mod Creatures and Creatures 2, and I, for one, am offended by your lumping the "creature" name along with sims and spores.

I think the term "pixel life forms" is much more appropriate.

Oh now HystericalParoxysm - that has to be a new ultimate low for stupid conversations - the difference between life forms and dollies and creatures?!?

I don't think that this site or its users are the dark side - I believe that they are the ones who have seen the light.

All depends on how much you hate shaving. The Vampire issue is limited to sunlight (which is overrated) and tooth-decay, with the occasional issue of someone trying to stake you.

But HAIR out of every ORIFICE. That could be a forever thing or just a case of buying them thar razors.

Wow. Gosh. That is actually REALLY annoying. The Capitalizing Every First Letter is bad enough (not everything is a pronoun, dear), but the lack of punctuation too? Bloody give your shift key a break!! What the hell kind of a habit is that to get into anyway? How in any way is repeatedly hitting shift habit-forming OR conducive to efficient typing?

It's just....really fucking irritating.

Yeah, not that I'd have been able to express it as such, but that's exactly my problem with it too. Also, I see a capital letter that's not attatched to a pronoun, and my brain says 'There's the start of another sentence, end what you were reading just then, QUICK!!'....so it just completely jars my brain. And the no commas, no apostrophies, on top of it, it makes me want to.....GAH. There's destroying in there somewhere.

How important is it really? So important to make a big deal of it all? Maybe you are giving herexactly what she wants by getting so riled up over a few ol' capityals.  Bothers me too, but there's lots more to be bothered by that really matters, like paysites for instance....

What I want to know is, how the fuck do you write papers? (O.o)  Seems to me that if I was grading anything you wrote, I'd just mark a big fat F and tell you to retype it.  Or do you type the whole thing, then go back and change all the caps for lowercase?  I guess what I'm trying to say is... I'm not buying the "habit" thing.

I don't personally care if you type like that or not.  I can't trouble myself to read anything that illogical.  Apparently, neither can other forum members.  But now I pose the question:  Why the fuck are you posting on a board when you have
1. told others not to read your posts
2. have been told by others that they do not read your posts because they don't make sense.

Isn't the point of posting to be heard? (o.O)

:o   Dour!! You cussed?? Where did THAT come from???????? :P Onto the "hot topic" at hand. The typing is annoying, but fuck it. To each his/her own. She wants to type like that then oh well, can't do much bout that.  But just being honest It Is Very Annoying To Read. I don't understand why either, it's just aggravating for some unknown purpose....... Then again I tend to use excess punctuation so am *I* much better? :P

LOL! Thank you.  This reminds me of BlueSoup's "be less stupid!" over at S2C.  Short and to the point.

It's a very stupid habit.  It takes more effort to hit the shift key constantly than to just type in all lowercase, which I find much less annoying.
Unless, of course, you have some sort of nervous disorder where every time your thumb moves to hit the space key, your little finger spasms and hits the shift key.
No?
Okay, then you're just stupid.

There is a reason why capitals are used the way they are in English and breaking that rule only makes your posts look strange and barely readable. Since the purpose of language is communitcation, I don't understand why you are purposefully making it harder for your writing to accomplish its purpose.

If you really need to just take up space in the world, perhaps you should get a LiveJournal. This really isn't the place to be posting just to hear yourself talk, and then get defensive when others point out your failure to communicate. Please try to facilitate communication if you really are here for that.

Unless you're a troll, in which case we have a fine selection of insults and sarcastic remarks to throw in your direction until you shove off. :)

Neriana - you make me laugh my arse off everytime I see that - I'm giggling while I type this post.

Torque - perhaps we are all .... sick puppies... boom boom.

I think that the sole purpose for most forum is an ability to complain about whatever takes your fancy - be it paysites, or someone typing in capitals - I also like the observation that nose picking in one's own house doesn't annoy someone over the other side of the world.

Bah. Since everyone has a problem with the way i type =] I'll try to not put a capital at the beginning of every word. Although I thought you guys would be a little nicer but whatever =] all I can do is try

Lot Of Love,
Red

P.S I don't type papers like this its just a habit i picked up in some forum, chat or something

And i might seem a little sensitive because( not whining or anything) I do realize i am a little(maybe alot....hmm...anybody under 16?) younger than everyone else in this forum and too have everyone come at me like that is not something I experience everyday

Typing with initial capitals is not something like pimples that you can't help if you're a certain age, you know!   But having dodgy eyesight is something I can't help at my age, and that style of writing really does put a strain on my eyes.

You have read other threads here right? And it's not as if everyone was being horrible to you or anything, a couple of people were pretty short with you, but that's all. The rest were just saying they found it difficult to read and didn't understand why you typed like that. Don't assume because we didn't like the way you typed we were all being mean, if you consider that mean you're going to go through life assuming people are picking on you when they aren't.

You must be having very different teenage years to what mine were like, and seriously, everybody wasn't 'coming at [you] like that', a few people expressed their irritation, with differing levels of intensity.

Huh? Since your last post only two of us replied and neither post was pissed off in tone. I don't like or dislike you, I don't know you. I do find your former typing style and your repeated use of 'everybody' when only a few people responded to you annoying, but I'm not going to get angry about them. Ah, my mate does this too. I can never understand the point of it, but I never bothered to ask him why. ^^ It can be seen as amusing. I have another friend who exasperates the use of punctuation by doing this: "hi,i'm,yeah.you know." This is, of course, very annoying for a grammar Nazi who is the daughter of an English teacher and who gets picky over the misuse of pronoun spellings and other such annoyances (e.g. it's/its, their/there/they're, etc).

What are you saying--this the dark side? We're the light side. S2C is the dark side. I have always thought so. This is why I do not have an S2C account. This is also why I never shall have an S2C account. No matter how much certain people (*coughWILLcough*) would like me to. It's yucky.

I'm only still using S2C because of the story I've posted there and which I have an intention to continue...had it not been for that I would have left that forum for good.  :P

If I could, I'd ban you for failing to convincingly pretend to be 12, as, as Jesse rightly said, you are not acting older than 6.

Unfortunately, I cannot, so instead I will tell how completely ridiculous it is for ANYONE to talk like that and expect to not get banned, or "fucked" as you so nicely put it as. I'm no saint; I have my fair share of swearing. But I usually only do it in certain circumstances in which society says it is allowed. I do not call someone a "mothafucka" or whatever, which is HIGHLY insulting, by the way, and expect they do not KILL ME for it.

You need to understand that there are boundaries, even in society. Even in this community. You are very close to overstepping them.

Tchân, give the kid a break, s/he is obviously very young.

Alia, the educational pirate steps in the ring:

ScreamMyName, in case you're still here, I'll tell you this nicely.
It is apparent that you are a young person, and therefore do no always know how to behave in certain situations. Now, I'm not trying to talk down to you, but you are obviously in the wrong place. This is a forum for adults, and   we talk here about subjects you'd probably find boring.  I'd suggest you go back to more child/teen friendly forums, and find there friends who are closer to your own age and topics that interest you.

And when posting in any forum, please, do not use terms like 'mothafucka' or 'ho' as many people find them offensive.

Thank you.

Given that, the people who I take notice of, and who give valid points, never (or very infrequently) use offensive language, there is no need for it.

I was. I was explaining society to a 6 year-old.   I have been taught this myself, and it's always best coming from someone with experience. Therefore I thought to explain it the way I learnt it; society says this is acceptable in certain situations--this is not it. I wasn't trying to be bitchy and reading my comment again, well, I don't know if you misunderstood it. Sometimes you need to be cruel to be kind.

I don't want this kid to get banned any more than you do and I want to help them as much as I can, as much as you do, Alia. (S)he needs to learn that offensive language will not be tolerated. Calling people names, no matter whether you mean it rudely or not, will never be an accepted part of society with people you don't know extremely well. For example, I can call my best friend a slut but she knows I don't mean it and therefore it's not exactly "all right" but she accepts it as part of every day life. However, I would not come on here and call you a slut, because you would not like it; you'd take it the wrong way and assume I was insulting you. There are times you can say such words and people to whom you can say them to. You could call your husband "honey" but I wouldn't advise you to call your teacher that. It's things you learn in life.

Therefore I'm not at all surprised that the child who thinks it okay to call people (s)he doesn't know--or even people (s)he may know; as it has been said before, on private forums you abide by their rules--"mothafuckas" and "hoes" gets banned for the choice of language (s)he picked. (S)he picked the wrong words for that context.

T2, I agree with what you were saying there. You find it much more infrequent with people like that.

File sharing? Well I get stuff from buddies sometimes so I'm not against it. I don't know anyone who doesn't do it. If you've bought something, you can share it with someone in my opinion...

I couldn't care less for a paysite losing money over this, simply because it's not even allowed to sell this in the first place.

Yeah!  When I buy something, it's mine then.  I should be able to share it with whomever I choose. Right?

I am against total paysites.  They suck.  But, it's their right to ask for payment or subscriptions, ain't it??  Nouk says up there that you aren't allowed to sell it...is that true??  Where do you find this information?

Also, just my thought.  Free sites with a special "donation pack" don't seem all that bad though.  All their stuff is free but for helping them out, they make a little something special just for you.  Why is that bad??  Is it because it's illegal to sell CC for Sims2?

I'm asking because I really want to know the legalities of this.  I don't like to argue with anyone unless I KNOW I'm right and I have proof.

But, it's their right to ask for payment or subscriptions, ain't it??  Nouk says up there that you aren't allowed to sell it...is that true??  Where do you find this information?

Reading the End-User License Agreement (EULA) that pops up when you open Bodyshop for the first time.

Reading the older threads is educational and entertaining. :D
I'll answer your questions, but the real argument material (the whys and hows) are in those threads. Arm yourself with information!

But, it's their right to ask for payment or subscriptions, ain't it??

No. EA is the only one who owns the right to sell the .package format. If creators wanted to legally sell their files, they could buy the rights from EA. No one has done this.
The only thing sites have permission to do is pure tip-jar-style donations. It's also legal to sell something they actually own, as in MTS's selling faster access to the server. TSR was legal, until they locked off files. Now they're a store.

Free sites with a special "donation pack" don't seem all that bad though.  (...) Is it because it's illegal to sell CC for Sims2?

Yes. It's legally the same as counterfeiting only a little bit.
Some people do it out of kindness, not knowing it's just as illegal. But most know that they'll get more money if they hold something back- and that's where it becomes a sale.
A moral problem comes in because even the kind people hold back their best sets for "donations", and this harms the community. Not to mention, people are supposed to be donating out of appreciation for what they've already been given (the free sets), not what they might get.
"Only one or two donation packs" has a tendency to bloom over time, because sites want to keep people donating. And it fosters the idea that paying for files is acceptable and normal.

Yea, I agree with everything LesserOr said, people shouldn't profit on what EA made.
