It looks as if I need to spend more time at MTS2...sigh...my downloads folder is going to explode. Thanks for making this thread,I really had no idea how much great free stuff was out there until now.We need to send all the paysite whores this thread!
I really need to give some fangirl love to Nouk...I have quite a few of your hairs in my game and they are simply beuatiful. Thanks for making them...my sims are so much prettier now:)
Amen. Before I discovered Nouk, I had *hundreds* if not thousands of hair files that were weird colors, complicated, and non-animated. AND they were ridiculously high poly. Now I've seen the light, and download simple hairs that move, have great textures, and way less polys.

My computer is on its last legs. Why torture it needlessly? But even if I got a supernew powerful computer I wouldn't go back to my old ways.

Hey! My entire bedroom is Ikea.

In my defense, I'm a college student. All of our furniture is Ikea or something we found on the street with the single exception of the dining table, which my roommate made in a furniture construction class (She's a film student, emphasis in set building). It's a pretty awesome table.

I don't exactly dislike Ikea. It's not any better made or worse made than comparably priced things I've bought. I like the clean lines (and their kids stuff). But the set is just about as quote-unquote Gypsy as Ikea. That's what I see. Ikea makes boxes and pegs. Let's tart it up in trashy colors and add lotsa knobs. Its like putting a sari on Bill Gates. WTF?

Perhaps, but I do sometimes let the motive decay stay on in order to explore certain aspects that require it. The reason I keep it off a lot of the time is so I can have them do what I want without them having to got to the bathroom or go to sleep. Sometimes I just want to see what will happen in certain situations.
It's just the way I play. It's not for everyone. My mother plays also. She just builds houses and creates the sims, but she doesn't play them. I always play mine, so our style of play is quite different. That versatility is a big part of what I like about the game.

To each his own. You play your way and I'll play mine.  Grin
OMG, he spoke at thee.
The wonderful thing about the game is that people can play however the fuck they want. Be it housing-slump recession survival, naming their kids as breakfast cereals, or making self-sims (and killing them creatively-- *cough*). More power to you.

I for one almost never use MAXIS anything. And I don't have any maxis match stuff. To some people, that's abhorrent.  Fuck them. That's how I play. I'm not going to tell them they shouldn't use it. Its just made for a different player. It's a fucking game. Come on.

Hee - I'm not as creative with the escapism as all that.  I have been doing an experiment lately though - speaking of incest (ick) - how far removed do Sim cousins need to be before they can hook up?  I know - warped, but I've always been curious...  I might have one giant infertile neighborhood soon...

I got on a kick of naming kids after breakfast cereals.  After Snap, Crackle, & Pop, things had to get a little more adventurous.  Honey Smacks?  Kinda sounds inappropriate.

ooh. Cereal names. How about:
Quisp, Cerbi, Alphabits, Total, Cheerios, Shreddies, Ezekiel, GoLean,  Chex, Trix, Kix, Vive, and what the hey, HeartyMorning

I mostly play with house and decorating. I have no clue about the cousin thing. Do I want to know? It'd take forever to find out,so I wouldn't be surprised if the creators were like "meh" and had the sims forget they're related after a certain point.

But such talk is merely guessing. Will someone test that out for us? (resists making Bluth joke)

By the way - I've had "I FEEL LIKE I'M TAKING CRAZY PILLS" stuck in my head since your post.   Grin
que??

I think with the sad state of things right now - we're going to be forced to adopt a more community atmosphere.  Right now, in my neighborhood, no one talks to one another - but it's totally true - we have several foreclosed homes on our block & maybe we could all pitch in and do the yards from time to time.  I don't know - maybe that's why I like poor challenges & the Broke family so much - success stories!!   Smiley
Oh, man. I've been hearing of special neighborhood watches and communities banding together to keep an eye out for squatters on eachother's homes as well as doing a bit of yard work here and there. People who stain that astro turf stuff for athletic fields are working overtime to keep lawns green and make it look more lived in. Its not happening everywhere and not right away but its happening. At least the banding together is a positive.

Sims is total escapism for me - in real life, I can't go to work in a helicopter or name my kids Count Chocula & Frankenberry.  heh
Thanks for the note on MTS2! - I'm going to be in a dark corner, slowly rocking back & forth until they come back.

HA! What are you, a New Zealander? My most daring name was "Erinyes" (a last name)

What? I like re-enacting mythological tales and folklore as best I can in the sim world. *cough* Sans incest*/cough* How's that for escapism?

MTS2's downloads won't be available again til the 12th!

But I can wait.... I love that derelict house.

How creepily ... topical of that lot. According to something I read on either MSN Money or Yahoo, suburbs are going to be the new slums-- with unsold houses gathering weeds, squatters, and people selling their homes quickly to unsavory types. (The gist of it is that its smarter to rent than buy) ANYWAY...

I never know quite how to feel when real life creeps into my game but I think I'll make an exception for aelflaed

I'll be offended for my great grandfather.  What the hell is that crap.  What is this assumption that Rom have mismatched furniture painted in cheap colours.  From everything I understand, they instead of a fondness for luxurious stuff that they tend to keep until its completely worn out - not cheap looking crap. *blechs*

What are you talking about? When I think Romani I think eye-bleachy Ikea with knobs on everything!

eta: forgive me if I misspelled

ATS has made this set. Ho-hum. *sigh*

SO pwned by this WNF set by Adele. The pictures do not do it justice!

God, is Adele from another dimension or something? Nobody human could come up with stuff like hers, she must have supernatural powers.

AHA! I knew I wasn't the only one who suspected this. She also must have access to wormholes to create so much content so quickly. Like, every month she makes loads of new stuff. That pace would kill a lesser mortal.

Missbonbon, that's a great idea. I'll definitely try to whip up some variations of cheek hollows and folds.

Oolong, I hope you keep on the same subtle trend with these makeups...I will suggest that perhaps you look into making them all into layerable blushes instead of sorting them into the category of the face they actually go on.  That way they can be layered with other makeup.  While many eyeshadows might cover up the top part of your eyebag, the lower part may remain.
I hadn't thought of that but now that you bring it up it seems like the best way. How does one make layerable blushes? I want to make a set that you can mix and match different parts of the face.

I have seen a few other attempts to make "middle age" makeups, but I don't want to hunt them down to link them.  They were taken out of my game awhile ago, simply because they were not subtle enough.
I'm going for a subtle look, most definitely. Just some hollows, sagging, baggyness. Nothing too extreme.
41  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Look at what I made and om nom nom it! (Post your creations pt. 2) on: 2009 February 24, 23:01:21
Except I think their largest demographic is middle-aged.  Thing is, how many middle-aged people do you see in the media who aren't trying desperately to hold onto their youth?  Then there are people like me, who because of our geekishness, spend little time outside or in tanning beds and thus still look pretty youthful.

I just find their portray of the elder a laugh riot - my grandmother is 80 and has excellent posture [better than mine] and was an athelete most of her life.  And my mom, while not very fit, still has good posture as well.  Besides, a bra takes care of that droopy boob thing they seem obsessed with.

Bravo. Well said. I for one don't know any "old" people who look stereotypically old. My sun worshipping, partying peers look older than some of them.

Anyway, I find it sad that the sims was so half-assed with their elder group. And the lack of a middle-aged/ mid-to late prime is unfortunate. Don't they know that the sims is precisely the kind of game that age-group loves? People who won't buy halo, and don't consider themselves gamers play this game. Not that older people aren't tech savvy, but for those who don't keep up with all the new stuff, the sims is a perfect fit.

This reminds me of when Isabella Rossellini was fired from Lancome's age defying skin product line and replaced with a younger model. Hello? That's the age group with the most disposable income. Not the teens and 20s (or the 12s) Where do they think 12s get their money anyway?

fake eta: Chaos brings up a good point. The health/fitness/science community are starting to look at age not in actual years, but in physical wear and tear. I take care of myself more than people of my social group, because in the late 20's that wear and tear starts to become more apparent and I want to save myself the grief. My mom is in her 50s but looks 20 years younger because she's stayed out of the sun all her life, and wore sunscreen all the time-- even before everyone starting saying it.

Also the signs of aging in skin is actually damage surfacing from sun exposure before the age of 10. The more doctors are learning, the less date of birth is relevant.

As the saying goes, its not the years, its the mileage.

sorry for the long post

Ugh. Not only is that a blatant copy. It was copied so poorly. The original is so beautiful, and look what the lemming did to it! Ugh.

lovely srgmls23 even copied where the trees go. What a buttmunch

Thanks guys. I'm in the process of making different eyelids, and then maybe some eyebags. I want to make nasal labial folds too and maybe other things that aren't occuring to me at the present. Then I can make hot older guys like Liam Neeson, Matt Berninger--- manly men. My game has been overpopulated by pretty boys.

the before and after.
meh. If anyone knows of an already existing middle age makeup set I'd love to know!

*off topic* RL has become so complicated and stressful lately and it makes me so bloody tired all the time. Where I'm so tired I don't always seem to say the right thing in the right way anymore.

All the more reason to come here and vent at crappy payshit antics. So you're a little testy. (male slanted pun intended). So you say something in a way you don't intend now and then. Join the club. We'll laugh at you a little bit, but I like to think that at PMBD we (mostly) laugh with you.

... case in point, this whole thing made more sense in my head.

I saw the original and didn't think it was thaat mean. Or whatever. MUST HAVE COFFEE

I need some feedback. Middle aged make-up. I find it kinda sad that there's no middle aged period in the game. Baby, toddler, kid, teen, youngadult, adult, then elder.

I'm planning on doing some makeup tweaks that simulate older faces but not necessarily elder faces. For starters I did this. Eyelids just starting to droop and hood over the eye-- for those guys who maybe partied a bit too much in their youth and aren't shaking off the hard weekends like they used to... or something like that:

After I tweak and perfect this, I want to make a set matching Anva's skins. And then maybe some forehead creases, under eye bags, and some nasal-labial folds to mix and match with.
