*halfway through book five* (what? I'm a decent reader)

Hum. At this point I can hardly see where H/Hr shippers get their ideas from. R/H looks way more likely.

But the whole fan/shipper terminology makes sense (also in term of other fandoms). I mean, some people are just nuts and unrealistic in what they are certain is going to happen. Me, I just like to explore possibilities and also impossibilities in my fanfic. I don't see a reason to get wound up either way. The worst you'll get from me is a frown and a "that's stupid, I reject your reality and substitute my own!" (gotta love Adam Savage)

But being a descendant of vikings I know how touchy this subject is. In Denmark every time some truthseeking historian points out that vikings actually did not have horns on their helmets he becomes the subject of public hatred and rejection. We WANT horns on our fake plastic viking helmets, dammit! And no dusty professor is going to deny us that!

I never noticed that at all. Could be because I could care less (shouldn't it be couldn't care less?) about the subject, really.

Uhm ... and what did this have to do with TSR??? Oh yes, they're Swedish so techically vikings too - although we all know that the Swedish vikings were the wimpy ones, don't we?

Of course. Also, swedes are the general cause of all evil. Except for the evil that the Germans caused during the times. Everybody knows that and no, Danes NEVER generalise

I read all 10 chapters of that thing PLUS all 4 epilogues or whatever she called them. It seemed to have ended rather abruptly, though, as no. 4 was still debating some stuff and that was back in November =/

Oh, well.

Am I sick for being sorry that I never got into that community?

Well, I decided to try and tackle the last 3 books, at least. After all, I did like the first 4 very much, it's just number 5 is so big and Harry is such a whiny wanker in it...

Here's some viking helmets as they looked 600-1050: http://www.densorteridder.dk/helmetdarkage.html

Yes they're very shiny, but that's because they aren't real. It's a roleplaying shop. But take it from me, NOBODY cares more about being historically accurate than sodding roleplayers.

I can't be arsed to look it up right now, but I suspect that the horned helmets were more of a formal thing, not a thing for raiding. I bet the chief had the biggest horns (phallus, anyone?)

Gawd, this thing is LONG! Granted I have taken several detours in the last uh... many hours (among other things I created an LJ account. I figured it was time   and I click way too many of the links in this thing ) but am only just starting chapter 7!

I have to admit, though. I'm not convinced that this msscribe was mentally ill. Screwing with and manipulating people like that is twisted, yea, but interweb peoplez aren't real peoplez, everyone knows that.

Sorry, back OT. Uhm... *looks at BTG* Platinum fuck nuts? Well... I'm not sure I really want to give the concept a lot of thought.

lol, I've never been a part of the HP community, but I started reading this thing and it sounds vastly amusing. Come to think of it, it reminds me a lot of the old BtVS/AtS community (which pretty much died when the series did) "Buffy should be with Angel" "no, Spike!" "What about Willow and Giles?" "Mmmm, SPIKE and XANDER" *grin* Made for excellent smut and excellent general reading when people first got going.

Never really thought about HP that way, though, because... Well... They're kids. It's for kids. It's... wrong. Or maybe I'm just getting old. Or maybe it's because I got stuck less than halfway through book five and never bothered to catch up again. My bf just finished book five and he said it's hardly worth the read, so that's not very encouraging. His brother says the movie doesn't make sense without the book, though. Oh, well...

Anyhoo, mentally unstable personas. Intriguing. I knew the HP fandom was messed up, guess I'll find out just how much. *munches popcorn*

I read it as more of a questioning of the quality control than bashing of items (although, angelyne, you might steer better clear of pirate wrath by not including links to specific items next time Wink)

I can agree that not everything is exactly top notch, but it's nice that there's a site that at least have some standards, whatever they may seem to be to some people, and the same site stays free,  and from there - it's all about encouraging budding artists that wish to learn, share and stay free, neh?

Ack, now Paden made me want to go get the old dusty LSL games once again. Those were the days.

I really have nothing else to add.
55  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Insim Donation Drive on: 2007 August 08, 18:58:36
Oh. I had a vague notion that they were doing a drive but moneys are low, I just donated to mts2 and (insert a bundle of flimsy excuses) so I figured I'd pass. But since it seems they aren't doing so hot I guess I can wrench a few §§ from my wallet.

I agree with everyone else that a meter might help to show things like this.

Oh, I don't know, Paden. Personally, the "post at TSR while you're crap, move to MTS2 when/if you get better" thing made me giggle.

That post can't possibly be good advertising for TSR.

I largely got it. And I found it a very interesting and informative debate until HawkGirl's last reply which, I'm sorry to say, just seemed rather sulky and... well, not so interesting. That one was counter-productive, in my opinion.

HawkGirl, if I didn't lose you as a reader of my post yet, I think that ratfink was only alluding to "thumbnails", as you call them, that were being sold on by paysite owners in some way. I do think that the copyright holders would have something against that. We've seen paysites having to pull down copyrighted materials before, because it was being sold, in whatever way. Free stuff on any site they usually could care less about.

Ratfink - I wish you the best of luck with your pet project. I wouldn't know art from Adam, so unfortunately I can't be of any help. I'd love to read your reports if you do succeed in getting them to pull some stuff down, though Smiley

What's worse, kitkat, is that she makes a slur on everyone in here's professional capabilities over a fucking game.

She needs to grow up and get a life in the worst way.

This sense of entitlement that make everyone decide to go pay is despicable and it makes me sick.

I would personally love to have the talent to make anything for the sims and if I had even 10 downloads I would be exalted and consider it worth it.

And here you are, whining about payment for your time and going to the worst site available.

I loathe you.
60  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / New Information, Very Interesting on: 2007 August 03, 02:56:21
I think it's decidedly odd. WHY would some University club pay her hosting etc to ONLY make stuff available to them?

I mean, she mentions they have offered that to other people as well. Well, I will assume a minimum of intelligence from these people, so why don't they just get one domain and get everyone to put their crap there? I mean, why will these creators need hosting for anything else if they're to stop making stuff for the public? Then the money they would get would just be "play-money", but she specifically mentions a paid hosting deal.

And why would they care if anyone else has the stuff?

Frankly, I think she's just making this shit up. A creative way of retiring. And hey, it worked. We're talking about it, aren't we?
