The Pirate Ship / ARR! / TSR IS A SUCK-ASS SUCKY WEBSITE

I don't believe it - even some of the people all for the federation idea have TSR linkies on their sites. I don't think I will be truly at rest till that site falls into an even bigger black hole than it has become. And that's more a personal thing cos anything I can't get away from makes me phobic regardless of its attributes. It seems like anyone with a link to TSR is tainted in some way. I feel like putting rubber gloves on everytime I click a site that affiliates/links to TSR. In fact, sites that link to any site that is a paysite of any description, lose my respect.

The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Struggling to keep to the site rules

If they were, there were too many TSR supporters for it to take off.
I managed to post. Said something about joinging the paysite co-operative, where you could get all files with or without donating, and it poofed, gone.
I like the co-operative angle, I might plug that in future, it sounds more friendly.
If paysites can hide behind 'sub' and 'donate', if you can't beat em, and all that jazz.

Though I have been suggesting that making donation gifts free after a couple of months might be a good compromise towards making them available to the whole community while providing a perk to the donors or subscribers being able to get them straight away. Don't get me wrong, ideally all content would be free immediately. But some people might be willing to take a small step at a time. I agree with this concept. I wouldn't mind TSR so much if, like you said, their content went into free rotation, people just paid for the privaledge to be able to get it as soon as it was released. We know people will pay, look at how many buy EPs on first release, and then some of us, wait until they have gone down in price.

There have been a lot of changes at TSR over the time they have been open, I was browsing their news archives today.
On 23 May 2001 Steve Bonham announced.
'Unlike other sites, we won't charge for access.' Among other things.
On 19 Aug 2001 Steve Bonham announced.
The simsresource is now providing 3 CD's of CC available @$11.95 each. Or, £29.95 for all three.
11 Jan 2002 Steve Bonham announced.
They were introducing a subscription option to provide a better service.
17 Jan 2002 Steve Bonham announced.
The member area has been launched, for all those who want to subscribe, for the added benefits.
*These are only snippets I saved while browsing all the TSR news. The one that stood out for me was the first one, where he said he won't charge for access.
Anyone can access the news archives, I saved screencaps of the ones I have mentioned though, in case anyone wants them.

To make a new account at the UK forum, click register, it takes you to EA reg page, make a new account, then go back to the forum, and log in. It is different from the BBS as you don't need games registered to join in the forum. Bah! I can't log into that site. T2, since the point about Paypal being a secure way of paying has been raised in that thread, you could take the opportunity to point out that Paypal does release your actual home address to the sites you send money to, and that there have been instances of paysite owners publishing subscribers' addresses. That should put a few people off paying for paysites! I don't know, but I think the UK site is independant from the US site. Edit, skip that, you need to log in with your bbs account details. http://thesims2.co.uk/pages.view_frontpage.asp then click on forum. Thanks for reminding me about the paypal scandals, I will edit my post. Any chance of a reminder as to which paysites were sharing personal info?

I didn't want to start a new thread, just in case the link I give gets locked. Please anyone feel free to join in, it appears, that most on this forum aren't well informed. We need to be civil, as it is the official uk Sims2 site.

Apologies for two conversations in one thread. It is paypal. Just linked inside the frame.
edit: unless paypalobjects.com is not the real thing? If you put www dot paypalobjects dot com into your address bar, it redirects to paypal.com, the official paypal site.

Wonder if TSR will be offering to buy this site out? I don't know if the name was a conscious decision or not. Totally free at the moment.

The crazy nut just contradicts herself all the time.
If her site has seen a rise in downloads, then why is she ranting. She has free publicity.
If she doesn't delete or edit her posts, she has it there in black and white that she is 'selling' content. Wonder if EA has seen the admittance.
We should all donate to her, so she can buy a JCB, I don't think a bigger spade will be sufficient.
