331  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / who's the best and the worst TSR creators? on: 2007 August 03, 19:28:28

Hmmm, I've thought about this some more and have concluded that the best creators at TSR are those that leave TSR.
Precisely. Which begs the question, why are Windkeeper and CycloneSue still there? If those two started a site off somewhere else together, they would never hurt for true donations.

Windkeeper's Helios windows all work for me, but then I have all EPs. The first ones didn't go diagonally.

And I also think the larger TSR grows, the harder it will be  for EA to go after them.
Mmm. Yes and no. They could afford better lawyers, but they make themselves a bigger (and more financially desirable) target.

I introduce you to your new favorite photo-taking cheats: "plumbbobtoggle" and "showHeadlines off" . These remove the plumbbob and stupid relationship change headlines that never go away until what you want to snap is over  :? .

I have a Gen 11 alphabet challenge family that I'm playing along with two other 'hoods in rotation, and was keeping up on the stories for them quite religiously until about a month ago (check Kari99998 on the official site). I've now stated that I won't be doing stories anymore, but it's a lie. I actually just got really behind writing for the absolute madness that was the H&I generations and am very slow in getting caught up. I mean, the K generation heir is already a kid.

As for challenges...they are meant to be rewritten, IMO. No one cares about some stupid score other than the 12-year-olds on the BBS. So use them as a guide. Mix, match, bastardize to your little heart's content. This Yahoo! Group has a great list of challenges and rules.
334  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Look's like TSR did something good(ish) on: 2007 July 31, 17:57:58
Seriously, though, how does any decent creator ever have a GUID conflict? I suck and I still know how to avoid that.

Thanks Nouk.

Conclusion: People suck.  They can go die in a fire.
As someone who almost died in a fire years ago, I can assure you that this is not a fun way to go.

So, yeah. Apt punishment. But anyways, it's the BBS. If a thread started there that wasn't full of idiocy, I'd be shocked.

Sparkleplenty, that was an apt substitution. It's on the edge of the state in this tiny little corner. Comfortably far from my relatives still in the Clarksburg/Parkersburg/Morgantown area. I'll sleep better tonight.

This Jan person, she makes me laugh. Do you think her members actually believe her?  I really hope that English isn't her first or even her second language.

ETA: Good to know that English isn't her native language.

Her name is Charlotte Mahony and she lives in Godforsaken, West Virginia. No offense to West Virginians, but really, is their first language English there? Or some Appalachian dialect? (Whois search result)
I sooooo take offense.

No, not really. For one, I'm not from WV, just both sides of my family are. And we most definitely are not from Appalachia. Urban, thank you (or as urban as WV gets).

True WVans speak English, of course. It's twanged, not quite the cookie-cutter Southern accent, and has quite a few slang terms those from out of the area may not be familiar with, but it is most definitely English and understandable. I'm thinking she's not a native WVan. There is no Godforsaken that I can find, though. Sounds like a fake city name.

Someone has finally asked about "no new subscriber content".  Call me paranoid but it might pay to check any new files, they may have added some way of making it possible to identify people who share files from there.  It's in the TSR discussions area...
I checked yesterday and noticed new subscriber downloads posted on the 26th, 24th, 23rd....oddly none on the 25th. So I'm not sure what you all are referring to with there being no new downloads for subscribers. Now, I haven't tried actually logged in...lemme check...

Yup, Waverly just put up some new single beds. Sims2Sisters is making plain old Echo rug recolors ('cause those are oh so special). Both artists posted today.

XM Sims is the bestest (not that I don't like Nouk's...I do, it's just a volume thing for me).

So, I didn't notice it in the rules, but say I want to post some recolors. The mesh file is on TSR as a pay item, but it's also on the creator's 100% free site, because we all know what asshats TSR is about not relinquishing files. 'Tis ok to link to the creator's freesite file and not mention the evilness, right?

*In this specific instance I'm referring to my own recolors of Echo's 1x1 floormat, which I'll be submitting this week (seriously, can I procrastinate a bit more?), but a general rule is good.

That was the one that made me cry non-stop and have to take a break. I still can't think about it (the seaside). With the two, I suspect it was part of her love of creating symmetry between the generations.

Loving the very very end with the comment made at the station. Trying to get away from the Snape-like predisposition, I take it.

I used to play Puzzle Pirates for about a year and a half, as Zazazu. The first six months were great...largely older adult population, very addictive yet different, very open-ended. Then my crew sort of died the slow death. I quit the game for a few months and came back. In the interim, they'd completely dumbed the game down and started pushing advertising on all these kiddy sites (NeoPets) despite the fact that it's a 13+ game. The populace went to hell and became a bunch of flighty 8-year-olds who did nothing but whine in chatspeak. Tried playing solo, but it's not really enjoyable that way.

So yeah. TSR + Y!PP in its current incarnation = match made in heaven.
342  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / "The EULA is not law" (apparently) on: 2007 July 20, 16:45:56
Hm. Thing is, we aren't talking about violating the EULA to use the game as shipped. We're talking about something that comes after the game is shipped and is beyond the software capabilities as created by Maxis/EA. One would think the distinction is important.

One also doesn't have a law degree, just likes smacking people, so one is just talking out of her ass.
343  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / You have got to be kidding me... on: 2007 July 20, 16:39:45
Just confirming, but I would be completely insane to go to a suburban Chicago bookstore tonight to wait for the midnight distribution, wouldn't I? I can't decide if I want to do that or wait until they open at 9 tomorrow. See, I have this tradition of getting them on the release day, reading them straight until done, and then waiting for everyone else to catch up. Usually not an issue, but my one best friend wants to go out for drinks for her birthday Saturday.

I had a dream that it was only 489 pages and I couldn't decide if I was pissed at the shortness or happy that I'd get it finished before her party-thing.

well, she can rock'n roll with her flowers and link to paypal 100 times, i am not going to "donate" to her. I've downloaded
some of her hair from the booty, and i was very disappointed with some
of her content. Some pics are manipulated to look better than in game.

A good example is donate0017....

The earlier stuff is crap.  Seriously.  Downloaded it too and it looks horrible.  I like her newer stuff, however.  Not going to donate though.. I will avoid those twirly flower thingy-ma-jiggies and get my goods from the booty. Smiley
For clothes, you have to watch her categorization. I've a few she's got set for every single category. The most wrong one is this elaborate reddish dress I have for my grand vampiress. Seeing it under swimsuits is just wrong...
