256  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Apology and some questions still on: 2006 November 15, 01:51:17
I don't like to make serious things personal. What I take seriously are the debate of paysite vs anti-paysite sentiment. Anyone who comes here on either side of the fence to engage in debate on the subject will be met by me with civility and an attempt to explain my position.

However... yes we gossip. Sometimes people behave in such a reprehensible manner elsewhere that we discuss it here. Or sometimes things are just so rediculous we poke fun. If that person comes here and wants to discuss it, that's fine, I'm not going to pretend I am holier than them or deserve to condemn them for their actions. But they are certainly not above a poking. Everyone gets poked from time to time.

In the case of Carla Niven, for example, she was told as gently as possible that her creations weren't high enough quality to merit a $15 a month sub to her site. She responded that her creations were brilliant and that people were just jealous. Then someone discovered that some of her "brilliant" creations were stolen from Boutique Emile (stolen in this case meaning taken and reposted under her name instead of the rightful creator). So yes, we feel a little justified poking her.

And Jack, well... Jack is unappologetically taking people's money and sitting on his butt every day. He claims various excuses, but the bottom line is that he refuses to find work and uses his parents and the sims to support his habits, which include using proceeds from his website to buy sexual items. He has also admitted to prostituting himself, which is a bit... err... poke worthy. If you don't believe it, you can read it all in his own words on his blog.

So I guess the bottom line is that we will behave with civility to anyone who comes here with a simmilar intent. But we won't pretend to be all "happy fluffy bunny nice", because frankly, not everyone deserves the consideration. You've already seen what happens to trolls.

I move that we remove yamikuronue's ability to post links. For the collective sanity of all members.

Just eww. No, let me try again. EWW. Rugrats pron is worse than pony pron. I admit, I wrote a slashy yaoi lemon once, but I cannot even begin to fathom this shit.
258  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Random Story Time on: 2006 November 15, 00:57:26
Actually I do. I have a friend who works for Gamespot (And gets paid well enough to live in the Bay Area. Bastard.), and he was one of the people who maintained the Sims 2 page. They had added a few mods and hacks, as was pretty usual with games, with links back to the site and creators. For the first time ever, since he has worked there, he got angry emails from the creators yelling that he had stolen their content and violated their rights. Ordinarily, modders are thrilled to get a mention on Gamespot.

Agast, the next time I was visiting he asked me whether everyone in the sims community was insane. I said that yes, for the most part, they are. I explained the paysite thing, and he was shocked and appalled. In no other game community, regardless of time, effort and artistic ability, do custom modders charge for content. The idea was insanely ludicris to him.

So yeah, basically, everyone else in the gaming world thinks we are a bunch of nutters.

Oh my god. My little pony pron. I just...can't... *head explodes*

Gross.

I like the Ouran manga as well, though I downloaded scanslations before they were licensed in the US. I admit to a weird girl crush on Haruhi. That may just be because I met her Seiyuu, Mayaa Sakamoto a couple years back when I interviewed her at AX, and have a weird girl-crush on her too Tongue
260  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Openhousejack on: 2006 November 14, 23:28:26
Wyrd, I LOVE Ouran! It is one of the funniest and cleverest shows to have come out in recent seasons, and it really does parody the whole fangirl obsession deftly. I love Honey-kun playing up the whole shota thing and the twins with their whole over the top fake twincest love act they put on for squealing fangirls.

ahem
/anime fangirl mode off

Kingdom hearts is a creepy, creepy fandom, not only for the shota-yaoi slash, but because it frequently involves random disney characters. Donald and goofy orgy = not hot. Not at all.

A lot of people are tough on fellow English speakers for not being able to handle their native language coherently, partially it is just poking fun at them. When someone who is not a naitive speaker makes the effort to communicate, by and large just about everyone here will be more than willing to overlook the errors because writing in a non native language is hard! I would cringe to think of what french speakers would think of my feeble attempts at their language. So no worries Blue, we aren't that mean Tongue

It is kind of weird how your activities around the community make their rounds and people know what you're up to. I remembered Solander being on GSC2 because I've registered and lurked around there to snag some of the creations and things.

Feedback from people who appreciate your stuff IS really nice, I totally agree. I love getting little thank you notes in my guestbook and things. Sure, it may seem like just a trifle, but a little gratitude and appreciation for your efforts really does go a long way.
262  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Carla Niven must be destroyed! on: 2006 November 14, 08:58:11
You know, many cultures viewed the conch shell as a representation of female genitals...

Maybe that explains the strange liquid.
263  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Pimp My Sims on: 2006 November 14, 08:55:40
Don't worry about your English, Solander. I don't think many people realized English was your second language. The fact that you write in more than one language is a really impressive thing, I think. And like I mentioned before, I am glad that you decided to look at the issue from all angles, even if you do disagree with us in principle. I wish more people would do so.

Oh, I love Volks dolls! Super Dollfies are absolutely beautiful when fully clothed and dressed with lovely wigs and eyes and things... However $700+ is a bit too much for me to spend on a doll, no matter how pretty.

I don't think they are creepy, and really when they are clothed they don't look like strange fetish objects. They aren't meant to be play-toys anyway, rather dolls for serious collectors and things. Far too expensive for children anyway.

Maybe it was cold when they took the picture, so scarves are practical? I like men in scarves, as long as they aren't ascots. And to answer a question, we know he is gay because he is involved in a website called Gay Sims Club 2 (not everyone there is gay, but the ones that are don't hide it, of course).

Anyway, his logic may be a bit circular there, but at least he is trying to look at it from both sides. He doesn't come out and say that we are evil, evil people who should be erraticated, he does say there is some validity in our point, though he disagrees. Really, that's what more can we ask for than for people to actually take a look at our position even if they disagree?

And I agree with him that they should call purchases by their real names. If this is their job and how they "feed their kids", they should be taxed on it just like everyone else. You can't claim that this is your livelyhood, then claim to be accepting donations when the tax man comes.
266  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / You know the funny thing... on: 2006 November 14, 00:33:55
Thats why I said that paysite owners weren't happy about sharing, just were more inclined to ignore it if it is underground. They hate SFV, but they weren't about to go around giving free advertising for the site either when so many people didn't know about it (except a few dumb ones Tongue). Just like they don't go out of their way to stamp out every underground yahoo group or email filesharing circle. It's better not to let people know about it. If SFV were to have been suddenly linked to on every popular site again, I would be willing bet that it would have gotten the same reaction.

Actually, quite a few, I would think. A lot of people just like to say thank you when they like something and want to just say thanks for the work. I have no real problem with that at all, especially since it really is nice to know your work is appreciated. I also was just as happy on MTS2 when people just clicked the thanks button. I don't think the problem is with people saying thanks, it's with the way that criticism or feedback has become almost completely frowned upon over there, especially when a person is new. I have seen critiques posted and the creator just kind of pulls a "wah, why are you picking on me, I'm new and I worked hard!", and then everyone jumps on the person who was kind enough to give their feedback like they were an evil person.

As a creator, I understand perfectly how much time and effort goes into these things. Still, I can honestly say that a LOT of creators out there just need to get over themselves.

lol... those poor guys. I kind of feel like a pedo for thinking "Hey, Fred and George are getting kind of hot". I have a friend who is a twin that is violently opposed to twincest in any form, not that I blame her. I don't mind yaoi or shounen-ai, even shoujo-ai and yuri are okay by me, but shotacon and lolicon really make me gag. Especially when they try to blur it by saying "oh, he/she is 18, but just happens to look like he/she is 10!"

The Doujinshi and fanfic world is full of perversions of every concievable kind though. I don't know what it is about fanboys and fangirls, but the level of obsession and creepy slash out there is just disturbing.
269  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Openhousejack on: 2006 November 13, 23:30:43
Yes, it was a drawing. Totally cheap CLAMP rip off style and all. But no real kids were hurt except the ones that happened to read it.
270  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Openhousejack on: 2006 November 13, 23:14:08
Okay, digging up older stuff now...

Hamtaro and the like is for kids, but yes, there is always a sideline. There is another fetish related to the whole "lolicon" (underage girls) fetish, but those men like little girls in the most innocent "kawaii" poses. Upskirt shots have to be done to seem accidental, and the girls can't seem sensual at all. It isn't about sex for them, I guess, it's about the innocence and cuteness of the girls. So yes, those people watch children's anime too.

The Blythe doll is so creepy. Worse than Hello Kitty by far, though I don't think Blythe has vibrator with her head on it. But hey, blonde hair, blue eyes, obscenely huge head and eyes, whats not to love... if you are in a country that by and large is obsessed with kawaii and kitch.

As for creepy weird pron things... well, once I stumbled across a Card Captor Sakura doujinshi and yeah, totally eww. Imagine a ten year old being violated by her teenage brother, then her dad walks in and joins in. Oh, and add a creppy talking flying stuffed animal thing. Not good. Washed eyes with bleach.

Anyway, enough from me. Pedophiles are bad, mmm'kay?

Carry on.
