481  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / why do people hate paysites? COMPLETELY DERAILED NOW on: 2006 December 22, 00:55:26

In the past Delphy was an inspiration, fighting the evil of TSR. Then he was labeled a sick perve worthy of only disdain. Later he seemed to support paysites, which only made it worse.
Now he seems to be worthy of admiration again.
I am confused, but this is not unusual.
Screw it all, GO DELPHY!

Sigh, I have lots of problems with Delphy, but he is on the right side at the moment *cough go delphy cough*

Ooh! Ooh! Please let me send money for this fabulous hair!

So then, it sound like each individual creator would have to give permission before any derivative work could be legitimately redistributed.

Thanks for the clarification, very useful. The 3D site is very interesting. I'm itching to learn more about meshing now.

So sorry to be dense, but I'm still not clear.

What people are proposing is to purchase meshes, alter them for usage in sims 2 and give them away for free with full credit to the original mesh creator. Is that allowable?

That's exnem's hair, had a horrid gap in the back, but someone fixed it. It's been around for awhile, used to be free, maybe it's pay again.

Edited to add: BlueSoup fixed the hair, see her post below.

Edited yet again to spell BlueSoup correctly.

Rickets,

Is there a way to legaly purchase a mesh and convert it to sims? If it were free and there were credit? I'm not sure how it all works. What do people usually do with Poser meshes they purchase?

I've often wondered about textures too, just can't believe that many people are that good.

You ought to register and post over at the MTS2 thread. Delphy is a control-freak, but it's probably the best way to get info out to lots of sims players. Everyone is in quite a state over all this.

Amazing! I didn't realize the extent. What a lying bunch of hypocrites! Peggy and Rose are SOOOO busted!

I use paint.net, it's free. I might buy photoshop someday, but haven't seen the need yet.
489  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Are subscribers/donators entitled to info re site costs? on: 2006 December 17, 23:07:36
I wouldn't worry about MTS2 shutting down anytime soon. I think Delphy is positively gleeful at the straits TSR is in, it will greatly increase his importance and maybe his income.

He does seem to be coming down on the right side of things as far as paysites are concerned, but that's not enough for me to open my checkbook.

Only a few do this: Nouk, N99. It's one of the reasons I don't donate to MTS2 or it's subsidiaries anymore. I'm willing to help keep a site afloat, but don't feel the need to pay someone's salary.

I checked out Shannanigan's stuff over at TSR. I can't imagine why someone with that much talent settles for being one of Thomas's bitches. Her stuff is well made and unique, but as long as it remains hidden in TSR's huge pile of crap, not many simmers get to enjoy it. If she could get over not getting money for her creations, she could easilly have quite a following.

With the changes to the TSR forum, we now have to agree to the forum rules.  The following I do not agree with, so I will never be part of that forum.  Who gets to decide if a complaint is valid?  And, what would constitute as complaint material?

The Forum administrators also reserve the right to reveal your identity (or whatever information we know about you) in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from any message posted by you. Furthermore, you agree, through your use of this service, to permit the staff of the TSR Forums at The Sims Resource to inform our members if you have broken any of our membership rules or had your membership revoked from the site.

Excert from the new TSR forum rules.

That site is giving me more heebie jeebies every day.

Ack!!!

Thomas is certifiable! Or astoundingly stupid!! Why on earth does anyone want to be a part of his insane little dictatorship?

I do it because I love it.... in fact I loved it very much until I found this site and started reading all the nasty things you guys say about us FAs. Why should I make people happy when they jab a knife in my back while making off with my goods that are supposedly garbage? You guys have stolen more than my stuff... you have stolen my fun.

I know you all think FAs control their work.. but we have no control over what TSR does. Not all of us FAs were happy about all the changes at TSR lately. Frankly, I'm surprised they haven't booted me off the island for some of the things I've said. (Of course being here might just give that final push.)

And aside from all that.... none of you are infallible saints. You've got no room to judge anybody's ethical standards.

Oh and one more thing.... Maxis has contacted some FAs. I think if they had a problem with anything, they wouldn't have been interested in talking with us. You guys are making a mountain out of a mole hill to justify what you do here....

Maybe I missed it, but I see lots of criticism of TSR and how Thomas runs it, but I haven't seen a lot of criticism of the FA's work, well OK, Chaz, but please...

I remember when you used to post at MTS2. That's really good stuff I still use in my game.

I think most everyone thinks TSR is rather a cancer living off talented people like you, buying up free sites and claiming complete rights to all their work.

At least that's how I look at it.

Child porn conviction?

Follow the links, the thread at MATY is the best because all sides, even Delphy give their side of the story.

I don't think most people care a whole lot really, but it's a big deal for me.

MTS2 is a fairly well run site.

S2C is Delphy's personal little kingdom. It does seem like he's moved a bit in the right direction, but control-freak that he is, it must be on his own terms.

I'll never, ever donate there again, can't get past the whole child porn conviction thing, never will, but if someone else ran it, and their expenses and income were open for inspection, I would.
