I think that people are far too quick to accuse others of "stealing". The only time I think it's justified is when something is being sold, like what 2-for-you did to Enayla. Don't take it too seriously.
Mh? What did 2-for-you to Enayla? I feel like I've missed some drama here.

I don't know Nouk.
It's not like, just because she your friend everything she does is right.
I don't think that taking off her pay stuff make her an hero. She didn't get rid of that because she knew it was wrong. She removed the pay stuff because she was afraid by the possible EA legal actions against her. She's most likely to be a coward to my eyes.

Said that, of course every pay creator that goes free is welcome in the community. Turn the other cheek.

I would say that Numenor does NOT have a paysite, and here's why:
You can get all his stuff without giving him a red cent. He asks for some donations as a thank you, but he does not restrict access to any of his package files.

Actually, as someone else pointed out, the tanning bed on his site *is* pay per download. You pay for it, you get it. And that download also happen to be the only downloadable thing on the site (or at least it was the last time I checked).
And this make Numenor' *site* a *paysite*.

Now, we know that every other work made by Numenor is avaiable for free, so I might agree that he's not a pay *creator*, cause, afterall, the 99,9% of his stuff is not pay, but still, his *site* is pay.

Just in case it wasn't clear yet, I agree with the general "If you have to pay to get 1/all contents you are on a paysite" rule.

Are ATS and XM Sims supposed to be free site now?

Btw, I guess Google basically list sites using their meta tags. The sites listed above probably have the word "free" in their metatags - and they're also widely visited sites too, and this contributes to put them at the very beginning of the list.

oops, NaughtyDiamond, I didn't saw your one   .
5  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Paysite or Simbella wannabe? on: 2007 June 24, 16:25:24
I especially love the "e-mail me and you can get your set by contributing in other ways" bit.
They're basically saying "kiss our ass and you'll get your donation gift" or what?

EA haven't confirmed anything official. I know about all the letters, I even wrote them one myself.
So I'm not sure, that we can say  "EA confirmed", before they make say this official, not in private chats.

I've asked them if they are going to make an announcement against paysites.
That's what they replied :
Electronic Arts does plan to make an announcement regarding custom content and pay sites in the near future. Unfortunately, I can't say at what point that will be at this time as we are reviewing all aspects of custom content built outside of EA Tools. However, its say to say that any content created with Bodyshop or Homebuilder would fall under the EA Sims EULA.

It's like neither "yes" nor "no". I guess if everything was so simple - they were not thinking for so long.

Really   ? 'Cos I remember I read this thing somewhere (I believe it was NoukieSims), a letter were this guy from EA said that selling stuff made using EA tools is against US copyright law.

*search for it*

Here it is, Nouk posted it on her site.

"If you use a tool created by Electronic Arts and wish to charge money for the content created with that tool afterwards, then you are in violation of US Copyright Law. Several countries share and/or recognize US copyright law."

I thought the guy was pretty much saying that paysites are considered illegal by EA Games.

It would be quite embarassing for me if I got it wrong, 'cos since when I read that I've been going around saying paysites are illegal.
Erm.
7  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / "Who is ILLEGAL" poll @ inBeatz on: 2007 June 18, 10:09:11
I'm now curious to find out who are the 29 jerks who voted against PSMBD.

(edit), I mean, you can support or not the idea of file sharing, you can support or not the idea of paysites, they're pretty much personal points of view. But pay sites ARE illegal, no matter what is your view on it. Free creators always said that, and now EA confirmed. So, wtf? How can sharing for free files that should be released for free at first, be *illegal* ?

1. He was convicted of a Child Porn charge, the details vary depending on who is discussing it, but it was enough to earn him a 2500 pound fine.

2. He is either an incompetent or dishonest sim site host. He charged insane ammounts of money to both Sapphire Sims and Insiminator.

3. Some questions remain about who was behind a money seeking campaign by Universal Sims. Either Delphy over-charged the owner or set up the scheme himself

4. Mike Inside (hosted by Delphy) had a pervvy forum involving underage girls. Interestingly enough, similiar to what is alleged in the chat rooms. Some think that someone was pretending to be Mike Inside.

What? I've been offline for barely 10 weeks and *all* this happens? Wow.
Drama drama drama!

ps. I admit I didn't have enough patience to read all the 45 pages, so I guess it might went OT in the meanwhile. Eh.
9  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / What do Paysite owners spend all that money on? on: 2007 June 14, 11:09:43

Tomass spends it all on flowers and chocolate to woo Atwa, clearly. His swinging bachelor pad needs to be redecorated, and no other woman will do.

Quote from: "tomato"
Pretty sure he is married.

Quote from: "missangelica"
Atwa could be his mistress!  You know chunky girls give good head.   Cool

Quote from: "Ensign EO"
Thomass could be raising money so he can pay his wife into having a threesome with dear old Nit-Nit.  Or maybe to hire a hitman so he and darling Nit-Nit can live happily without having to be careful about his wife.

Quote from: "Steroide"
But But But.. *tries to be important*
Atwat and Thomass both live in Sweden, so why couldn't they be married?
Oh, teh horror..
I seriously need to stop picturing Atwat and Thomass living in a house with All of Atwat's furniture... Brain bleach anyone?

Quote from: "missangelica"
From the body language and his face in that picture of him and Atwa, it is pretty clear that even touching her gives him the shivers.  His body and face say to the picture viewer, "DO NOT WANT."

Quote from: "Captain Berg"
No, seriously, I got curious, and since I, well, have no life, I looked it up and it seems like Thomass somehow have managed to marry a 30-year old woman, who wishes to remain unknown (anyone can look up those things anyway). So that leaves Atwtat out.

Quote from: "evilredduckie"
Maybe he promised her a free subscription day and mini-site?

Quote from: "mando"
No, no, no. He took all his money and built himself a robot wife, and then, after his metal bride refused to marry him, he promised her a free subscription day and a mini-site if she would.

Ah, gossips!
10  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Ok, Carla Niven sucks. But what about Simchic? on: 2007 February 13, 18:32:40
Quote from: "Plum"
they're not nearly as bad as Niven, who has no skins worth downloading and contributes nothing to the community... except amusement.
Eheh, well, I guess I'm pretty partial it comes to SimChic.
Lets just say I wouldn't download their stuff even if it was a free site.
I make skins myself, and I notice very easily when a texture was made badly, and SC skins are.
They look like they were rushed off, with no care over details at all. All of the most of their textures looks like the creator just took the picture and pasted it over the skin, with no further adjustments.

Speaking of meshes, I gotta say that some of their meshes are useful; not pretty, not well done, but useful, since they're so many and they're freely redistributable. I can't judge for their technical quality since I'm not really an expert mesher.
It's a bit of a sham to admit it, but I even liked a couple of their meshes.. I loved the "nails" accessory mesh when it came out, for example.

This is very far from saying I like their meshes, tho. As someone else mentioned, their feet are.. erm.
The heels are not the problem; I like stiletto heels. The whole foot is disturbing. So thin, small, and yep, the heels are probably a bitt to much high.
Quote from: "frivolous"
for God's sake nobody wears high heels to go swimming.
Marylin did
I confess: I like sim swimwear with shoes and heels, and I even made a couple as well
I rarely make my sims actually *swim*, I'm more likely to just take them and bring them to the beach to eat sandwiches, play darts and stay with friends. And what's wrong in going to the beach wearing heels? I mean, I do that.
Seriously, I love stiletto heels (even if I can't walk on em and they make me look like a drunk goose, *cough*cough*), and I quite like meshes with heels (stiletto or not)

Quote from: "Angelo"
The pants in those pictures look blurry and terrible, and the artist was too lazy to even line up the sleeves on the jacket.  They can't even be bothered to make a simple correction that would only take a few minutes?
The worst thing is that "the artist" is CrecheBaby herself. I wouldn't find it so offensive if they were made by someone else of the staff, or a guest artist. I mean, why should they even care about quality? It's not their site. I believe they're paid on the basis of how many skins they make.
But Creche? She's the site owner. I would be fuc*ing embarassed to have such things on my own site.

Quote from: "Carisssa"
only because a close friend changed the mesh for me, so that the waist isn't so rediculous small and the butt so strangely big anymore. It overwrites the original mesh, but uses all textures...
Would you share it privately? I hate that mesh too.. so unrealistic, in a sort of weird, pinup-ish way  :?

Also Stella, I am not trying to plunge the sims community into internet anarchy... heh. I'm actually following a generally accepted code of conduct by game modders for just about every other game. Give credit and a link back or way for the original creator to be contacted and everything is kosher.

Eheh, I don't think you are either.
But, while I generally understand and approve this "policy", I'm not sure I would use it on my site/uploads, since I try my best to respect other creators policies...
Yes, I know, said by a file sharer this might sound pretty self-contradictory XD, but I can't help but think it this way.
I'm curious, tho, to see how you'll manage to go trough this thing and how will downloaders and creators react to this.

I'm also pretty curious to know Hysterical Paroxism point of view about this subject, since she's a member here.
I quite enjoy her meshes, and I find her redistribution Policy pretty restrictive, especially since she's a MTS artist (I have nothing against being a creator over MtS, but lately its downloads are more likely to be down then up and it's such a tragedy to download stuff there).
I'd love to know wich reasons make her decide to forbid the redistribution of her meshes and how would she feel if someone would ever redistribute her meshes somewhere, with credits and everything of course. :?:

I refuse to post thanks if I have to pay for it. I religiously post Thanks at MTS2, for everything I download, but I won't post it to someone who supports the evil empire.
I ditto to this.
The worse thing is that lot of people probably thinks that a pay creator deserves thanks and support more then a free one.
And btw I love your avvie. So Rose-hairs
14  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / So it begins... Or something slightly less dramatic on: 2007 February 12, 19:07:30
I don't know.
While I myself hate to upload stuff on my site without the meshes, and I try my best to use only meshes that are redistributable, I wouldn't redistribute someone elses work if that's against their policy.
I always try to follow and respect other creators (free or pay) policies, even if I don't approve them, even if I think they're wrong.

I'm not trying to say you're disrespectful or anything, and, yep, rules are there to be infringed, but, if everyone start to follow only his own rules or only the rules he/she approve, that would be anarchy, even on internet.
Anarchy looked super cool when I was a 16een years old punk-rocker ;P, but isn't in fact *that* great.

On the other side, when I download something and then I have to go look trough 100.000 other sites to download the meshes, I get quite annoyed.

So, I don't know. So far I've always thought that giving accurate directions to download off-site meshes is fine. As far as I know you're the first to have this all-meshes-included policy.
15  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Ok, Carla Niven sucks. But what about Simchic? on: 2007 February 12, 18:52:12
Lately Carla Niven' site, with its fugly stuff and overly high prices, has become the symbol of crappy paysites.
Everyone agrees that their stuff is bad quality.. or even worse XD.

But there's another site that really bugs me but isn't mentioned alot. As the title says, I'm talking about SimChic.

[RANT mode ON]

I've never actually liked their downloads alot but, while at the beginning they had average looking stuff, not very hq but still not fugly, it seems to me that not only their quality level hasn't improved, it looks like it has gotten worse.

With the exception of a few guest artists, all the stuff on the site is made of low quality, badly photoskinned, weird, designer clothes that *I* would never make my poor sims wear.

When today I saw these clothes on Bines' finds,

my eyes tried to commit suicide and I felt the urgency to run into the bathroom and puke.
Instead, I decided to wrote my own personal rant here ;P

So, why is Simchic better than Carla Niven? But most of all, how in the world so many people actually like and subscribe to Simchic?(Someone might point out that Simchic is cheaper then Carla Niven. I don't think this is very important though. Personally, I'm against the whole pay per download idea, wichever the price is.)

It would be interesting to debate about this on a bigger board followed by a wider variety of people (I guess it's hard to find someone here who likes paysites XD) but I doubt that a mature and polite debate could be possible  :?

[/RANT mode OFF]

So, what do you think? ;P
