Title: Are subscribers/donators entitled to info re site costs?
Post by: tIIsuggas on 2006 December 17, 11:15:02
Just out of curiosity, would a subscriber/donator to a site, be entitled to ask for information regarding expenditure, money received, etc.

Are we entitled to know what is being done with out money?

I doubt it. There's no TOS for money. Don't use it, don't share it, don't recreate it.

Most charities publish the breakdown of income and expenses.  I don't suppose there is any legal entitlement for donors to see these details from Sims sites. but again this is where the users themselves can bring pressure to bear.

I think that sort of info is only available to shareholders...;)

Only a few do this: Nouk, N99. It's one of the reasons I don't donate to MTS2 or it's subsidiaries anymore. I'm willing to help keep a site afloat, but don't feel the need to pay someone's salary.

Regardless of what Delphy spouts, he quit his job 5 years ago when he had those porn charges. There's no way some of that money *isn't* going into his pocket. He doesn't have another job.

To be honest I don't really care much.  The net benefit of that site to the modding community makes it (IMHO) worth, between probably hundreds of voluntary donors, subsidising Delphy's income.  And if any site can help bring real pressure to bear on paysites, that's the one.   Sorry but I think in the long run it will have more clout than what's happening here.

No I'm not saying PMBD hasn't been important in this, it certainly got the ball rolling, but it's not enough on its own.

Actually AFAIAA Delphy *has* had a paid job since then.  He was changing his nickname in chat to "at work" at all the right times anyway.

I'm a chatter, I've never seen Delphy have "at work" ... I've seen "out" and "coding", "sleeping", "drinking" and "shower" etc but for this whole year, not once have I seen him have "at work" or anything else like that. I've been in and around IRC for pretty much the whole year there.

I wouldn't worry about MTS2 shutting down anytime soon. I think Delphy is positively gleeful at the straits TSR is in, it will greatly increase his importance and maybe his income.

He does seem to be coming down on the right side of things as far as paysites are concerned, but that's not enough for me to open my checkbook.

That's right Piratebooty, he's had a job some time since MTS2 started, but not in the last year, that sounds about right.

Getting back to the paysites sharing info on how they spend their ill-gotten gains (although I do love all gossip)...I for one might donate to a site that brokedown their expenditures, even if some money went to creators. I really started to think about the math ($5 sub with 100 subs a month, etc) when looking at simchic. I mean every frickin time I get on that site it tells me there are at least 32 people on. Just about every recol 'artiste' uses a simchic mesh and not a free one either. I'd love to know how much they roll in a year.

You might as well wonder about WDS too. Every new clothing of theirs seems to have something like 8000 downloads. And we are talking about PAID ones.

WDS never found their clothes that hot, so padid subscribers figures probabkly a lot higher than 8000. But $5 times 8000 equals $40,000
