1  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Another Fracking Paysite! - TG Sims on: 2007 October 09, 18:52:02
I'm sorry, but this comes to mind when I look at items on that site.

I'm a Barbie girl in the Barbie world
Life in plastic, it's fantastic
You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere
Imagination, life is your creation...

Looks like most of your nav images are broken at the moment -  I assume you're still working everything out - just wanted to let you know.  I did refresh a couple times too.

Really? Thanks, I'll have to look into it.

ETA: On a quick search it appears that the SecuRom was added after the game gets patched to version 1.02.  I guess since I never bothered to patch it I didn't have the problem.

Darnit - I really wanted to buy that game too.

ETA: More thorough search - I checked my device manager (start+pause break/hardware/device manager->view/show hidden devices) and don't have SecRom, but I do have StarForce.  Doesn't seem to be causing any problems, however.  Of course it's been awhile since I've reformatted so I don't know which games installed it.

After reading all this, I feel very fortunate that I wasn't interested in any expansions after Pets.  Stuff like this makes me so angry I want to pirate their stuff on purpose just to get back at them.  (not that I will, but still - I have a hard time being upset with people who do).

I have a lot more respect for companies who earn their customers by putting forth a quality product.  Yes, I download things from torrent sites to check them out - looked at Neverwinter Nights 2 out of curiosity. I like it a lot - and I plan to go buy it and the upcoming expansion next week because I like it and it is not overpriced.  My husband tried Farcry, and did the same.  I've done the same with music - I love almost everything Lacuna Coil and Evanescence make, so I buy their disks.  When the product is worth it, I am happy to buy it, but forcing things onto your computer that messes with your hardware is just wrong. On the other hand, I tried Doom 3 - hated it and deleted it. I was glad I didn't waste $50 on it.

ETA:
And before someone goes "there's always demos you could try" the demo doesn't give you the storyline, which for me makes or breaks the game most of the time.

oh god - that looks like a wet rat had a love child with Yoda.

Or else Yoda and Chewy were closer than we realized.

That's okay, blackmars - I really should have said that their hair is frightening... but then again it was the 80's wasn't it?  Which group was it that has a guy with his hair done up like a big swan?  I think I saw them on some "I love the 80's" episode on VH1 awhile back.

Is that what they look like? Frightening!  I never really cared for their version of Enjoy the Silence, but I really like the one Lacuna Coil did in their last album.

Wow, I go away a couple of days for surgery and come back to more drama!  *breaks out the popcorn*

I would tell what/how I found it, but I think the others on here would kick my butt.

Only reason I knew where to look was knowing how to code HTML myself (no, I do not claim to know how to do secure commerce sites).  I actually taught myself how to code HTML by browsing internet tutorials and studying other people's code if they had done some effect I was interested in.  I was a bored and lonely teenager.

Ok, after all the talk of how easy it was to get in the site, I had to look (and no, I didn't download one single thing - my sims game takes 10 minutes to load as it is - don't need any more stuff).  C'mon - anyone can look at the source code by right clicking - she doesn't even have a no right click script?  Even then, you can look at the source using the browser controls.

Even if I wanted the stuff really bad I doubt I'd risk my financial info. This is just me, but I'm the distrustful type - if I wanted to use PayPal I'd make a separate checking account just for that.

Out of curiosity I checked the whois info on the new site.  She's registered it to a PO Box.

Eh, personally I never registered domain names for hobby sites.  I never created for the Sims 2 (dabbled in it for Sims 1 but wasn't very good or into it). I always preferred free hosting back when Geocities and Tripod weren't quite so ad-tastic.  The only remaining game site I have now (more of an archive than anything) is hosted on gamespy.

Guess that info was pointless, except to say why do people waste money on things when they don't have to?  LOL I guess that is the point of this entire site too, now isn't it?

<returns to lurking>

That's not exactly what I was looking for, but thank you.  I probably should inquire with my current host, because if I move my domain I'll lose hosting.

That's all I have for now. I'll go back to lurking before I move things too far off topic.

Hi everyone. I'm new here - been lurking for awhile, reading this very entertaining thread, and feeling quite horrified because my boss is very much like this woman. I feel your pain!

Anyway, my purpose for posting is just to ask if anyone knows who or what site to go to in order to prevent your personal info from being revealed in a whois search. I have a non-sims site and found that I too have my personal info available for all to see (so I'm not posting the URL obviously).

Appreciate the help - and if I should have asked in a different thread I apologize. It just seemed sort of relevant from earlier posts in the thread. Thanks!
