91  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / EYES! on: 2007 July 11, 03:06:53
I made EYES.

I posted the eye download at MTS2.
I wanted to share.

Dark Lunaris, are you going to share any of that stuff? I really like it  Cheesy

Aw, Thank you. ^^
I was planning to, but I wanted to create my own little website and create some more stuff before I do that (free of course! ^o^)... in the meanwhile I still upload random little things here and there to MTS2.

*whew*
Thanks.
That's horrible about the Enayla thing though... Especially with the "charging people" thing. It's very sad that sort of thing can happen.. Sad

I wouldn't worry about it.  Things are bound to look similar.  All the long, bun, ponytail, et cetera hair meshes look the same to me, but I have at least three different ponytails in my game.  <.<

Ah.. thank you so much.
I feel a little better now. I don't want anyone to think I copied something and gave no credit.

I guess with the fact all tones need to be mapped to the same areas, similarities are bound to appear. I think the thing that really makes my tone look so close to Teru's is the nostril placement... I raise my nostrils so that they are not so close to the base of the nose, and that gives a sharper and slightly more arched look... but it seems that Teru does the same thing in the  doll skin he made... plus both skintones have that "flawless" porceline look in-game... c'est la vie I suppose.

The hair is nice but the skin looks a lot like teru_k's BJD skin or Ephemera's stuff. Do you mean you edited to remove the joints? If so good job, but shouldn't you give some credit?

Actually... no. I know what skin you are talking about, but mine was hand panted in photoshop myself. I wanted an anime-look to my skin, but I did not use any skintone except for maxis as a base, and then painted mine over it.

I apologise if they look the same, if so, it was coincidental, I assure you. Sad
I always credit when I use someone elses stuff.

(Edit)
I DL'd Teru's skintone to look at after I read the comment. They are very similar, but not identical. But the similarities are really close! My ears/nose are different, and tone. But Not by a lot. The lips and eyes on mine are inspired by a photo of my own face actually... but now I'm a little worried that people may still think I copied, if one person thinks so, others may make the same judgement... maybe I should keep the tone to myself. Sad
96  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Some of my CC on: 2007 July 03, 08:30:41
The clothing is NOT mine. I got it from MTS2. It's in featured downloads.

But the rest... Skintone/eyes/makeup... are all mine.
The hair is just a maxis female hair swapped to fit men with a quick recolour and a bit of alpha editing... but nothing really special.
I just wanted to SHARE!!

None of the CC I uploaded yet (except for the eye make-up which is hiding on MTS2)....

Uhh.. okay.. I DL'd free hair off peggy and the bone assignments SUCKED nuts.

I had to reassign all the bones myself. But I thought "Oh, I guess they don't care about FREE hair".

But now you say they make the same LAZY bone assignments on pay hair?

That's F@%^ing BULLcrap in a hat!

I am appalled

The bone assignements on all of the hair are not up to current standards.  Part of the problem is that however they make the hair, they are using older methods so that they only use 1 SknWght, and have to assign each Vert 100%, so they get jerky animation and neck gaps.

I like the general hairstyles and use some.   I usually leave the animation as is because I don't feel like reassigning everything (and considering how high poly these are it's a pain).  I fixed this particular mesh because the animation generally made it unusable for teens.   The gaps actually bother me more, and I usually get around to fixing thse on hairs I use frequently.

Yea... neck gaps enrage me... but top and side gaps at the hairline enrage me too. My god peggy!! How can you charge money for stuff that is crappier than talented artists upload for free? It's sad, because some hair looks nice because of the textures and whatnot, but in-game, the animations are just BLEH.

I've seen free uploads with much better bone assignments.
Nouk's hair is great, the hair animations look super nice!

(I remember the old bone assignment days! That was 2005.... she's 2 years behind!)

I only edited the adult male because I only needed it for adult male, and I was lazy... so unless I got off my butt and did the edit for all ages, no one would really be interested. ^^

I am interested  Cheesy  Care to share it? I offer rum...

Okay, sure. LoL

But I'd like to tweak it a bit first. I'm picky with the space left between the hair and back. Plus it'd like to assign the bottom to different bones because it's still slightly too stiff for my liking.

One problem though. I fixed the mesh, but not the filename... so if you have the female version, my male version will override it. If you don't give a crap about the female version, then no problem. This thing was just a quick fix because I really liked the wavy long hair on the male sim.

Dark Lunaris, your sim is absolutely lovely.
And Hecubus, you should sue Carla Niven for what happened to your poor sim after she wore that so-called dress.

Thank you, Clementyne! ^^

And onto the dress.... umm.... I laughed so hard my sides ached. What's WRONg with that dress??? It cuts through walls! It's demonic! LMFAO!!!
The lying down pic made me cry from laughter.

That's quite cute, it suits him. <3 You should do more.
Where's the outfit from, btw?

It's from MTS2... so in love with that website. I skim the male clothing all the time.

The pants in a featured upload. The top is in male adult somewhere, I just don't remember where exactly.

Out of curiosity, does anyone have a problem creating content for a commission fee?

Not actually charging for the files (after the commission is complete, the files are distributed freely and available to all who want them).

I personally wouldn't see anything wrong with this, it'd be no different from, oh, say, buying a mesh from someone to stuff into a Sims file, which is then free. After all, if you want to get the item exactly as you want it, you're going to naturally have to bribe someone to do it for you somehow. After all, Linux is free to download, but people still get paid to work on it, install it on servers, and soforth.

Thank you very much for the input. I was never intending on charging for the files. Once finished, they'd be up for grabs for everyone! But your post above also made me think... it'd still be pointless. Because there's NO WAY I'd be able to put a price tag on a Sims commission like I could possibly do for an art commission. Sims actually take longer than artwork, because you have to do the artwork PLUS meshes AND Alphas, and all the testing and making sure your animations look good in game and WAH...

Doing an entire sim for a person with all my own custom content (which I handpaint the textures in photoshop and create and texture map highly customised meshes) would be days of work... and I couldn't charge nearly enough for that amount of work...  Min wage for 12 hours is $96 (canadian. And min wage right now in canada is $8 ). NO ONE WOULD PAY THAT. I'd have to hack the price to between 20-40 at most... and a full sim would actually take OVER 12 hours.... with requests, there is no deadline and no obligation. If I feel that I can help someone, I do it. But If something comes up, there's no money on the table for dissappointment if I cannot work for a few days.

More trouble than it's worth. Definately. It was a thought, but I thought that needed thinking to prove it's uselessness. :/

lol.. yea. The only screencap I have was this female peggy hair I adjusted for men. But that's it. I gender swapped and added some bangs and recoloured/alpha adjusted a few female maxis textures too.. but no screenshots of those. :/

105  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Commissioning Question on: 2007 June 26, 11:07:42
Thanks. Just wondering.

I was thinking it was okay to charge for labour, not the files. But I guess the two cannot legally be separated right?

:/

It's okay, to be honest, I love creating content and getting wonderful comments from people I make happy with my creations SO much! Pay does not determine me making stuff. (I was hoping pay for labour would encourage me to make MORE stuff and get practice with my texture work..)

Ahaha, a kick in the butt to finish stuff for people faster basically. Asking for pay makes me feel guilty though... I used to do art commissions. I'm an animation graduate, so I SHOULD be working for a company right now, for concept design at least. But I have not done up a decent portfolio yet. >_<

But yea, I want to create a sims2 site at some point when I get more stuff done. All free of course... but I sew lazy.
