721  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / But... no comments on this? on: 2007 May 23, 12:36:04

sorry to say it again but this topic is desesperating.. how can you be so naive..

please stop looking the world as bad and good ones.. EA are not angels! do they let us share our games?

How is this even the same thing?  Almost any software product that is commercially produced is not supposed to be shared.  That would be against the business that produced it.  They don't sell them, they don't make money, they go out of business.  No more product.   That is the way it works.   Fan sites are not supposed to be a business.  It is one thing to ask for donations to help keep a site going, it is another to ask for subscriptions to pay people to make stuff as a job.  There are already people who make stuff for the game as a job.  They are the EA games people.

Okay paysites are bad.. i'm here so this suppose that i'm agree with this.. (even if I think that they make better quality than free sites! off course some free sites are also very good but most of time they make too few updates)

Well, you can think that all you want, but many people here would disagree.  I find the best stuff is at MTS2, Insim, PC-Sims, MATY all for free.  There are also free creators that make rocking stuff.  Many of whom are here.  Are you telling us that the free creators here (Nouk, calalily, etc) make things that are of lesser quality than Peggy or Buntah?

Quote from: "bayrou"

but this not means that automatically I have to consider EA like heroes or poor victims! they are the kings of greediness!

How? They are a business.  If you don't want to pay for their product then don't.  No one is saying this anyway.  I have not heard one person say "Oh poor EA games."

Quote from: "bayrou"
do you find normal that add ons are so expensives! worst: do you see the price they ask for content stuff (glamour and others..) the base game is already enough expensive so they could offer additionnal content for free or at least for a reasonable price..

Again.  They are a business.  It is called supply and demand.  If people didn't buy it then they wouldn't sell it or would reduce the price.  Capitalism 101.  What would be a reasonable price to you?   Or you can just wait and eventually the price drops, especially as S3 gets closer.  You sound anti-capitalist.

they're also robbers so I'll not cry for them if people use their content to make money.. and i'll not believe them when they say that they're against paysites.. they would do something before if it was the case.. they don't need us to inform them or to remember them that paysites exists they know it very well!

How are they robbers?  Are you completely insane?  As far as the rest of this statement, only time will tell.

have you been invited to "fan day" celebration? all importants webmasters were there and their sites are not all free..!

They invited the largest webmasters in the simsverse, free or otherwise.  I have no idea if they knew beforehand if some of these sites were pay.  It is looking like the Maxoids did, EA games did not.  There is obviously some kind of internal dispute as to what is OK and what is not. Hopefully, it will be sorted out one way or another soon.

What about sending it as a fax.  They would get it quicker.
723  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Bandwidth stealing? on: 2007 May 21, 22:58:38

If you think about it this way: someone is going to download a particular file--no matter what.   They can follow a direct link to the file or go to the page on your site that hosts it.  It costs less bandwidth if they get the file directly than to load up an html page with graphics and flash doodads and whatever and THEN download the file.  All other things equal in this case, the hotlink helps.

OK. That makes sense to me.  I can now see the difference between hotlinking images which would be a constant drain on bandwidth and hotlinking to a file which would not be.  Thanks for the clarification.  Now I feel all ignorant and non-1337.

Saw this on insimenator:

http://www.insimenator.net/showthread.php?t=46757

So I stuck in some names to see what I could find, I realized they are hotlinking to files in the booty.   I have no idea if Pescado would care or not, but I thought I would let you know.

I used Windkeeper and Birgit43 and saw the hotlinks to here.

Anyone want to start a pool?  If you go to ahthan's minisite, he/she has a skull and crossbones avatar.

dont they have enough FAs anyway?!.....

A lot of them have left or are completely inactive.  We can only guess why.

Thomas has been recruiting again and it seems that he chose Pure Sims and Birgit43 studios.  Which is fine, but the way he does it where he gets them minisites, makes them SA for a week or two and then they are FA's makes it seem like he thinks we won't see through this.  I would almost prefer him just coming out and saying, "Hey, we got two new FA's who have decided to come over to TSR and close their sites. If you don't like it, tough", instead of trying to be all sneaky about it.

Some posts were deleted before closing.  BennyBoy got on there and said that his source told him that she was sick.  Several people asked for confirmation and BB said he would check with who told him and post back.
729  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / A 100% paysite.... on: 2007 May 11, 02:13:13
My guess is that you have a couple of options.

One-call which is 5 dollars

Two a bank card which is 2.10 dollars or 2 Euro.

Damn it!

Edited: OR you can get a code using text messaging SMS for 4.99$

Obviously a credit card is the way to go.
730  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / A 100% paysite.... on: 2007 May 11, 02:08:56
Actually, if you click on the pay sets it takes you here:

http://www.simsmag.com/set28.html

Which has english

To buy this content, insert your access code obtained by clicking on your country flag
Then it lists a 1-900 number that charges 5 dollars a call.  Nice.

EDITED to add: if you click on the credit card links, it gives you an english translation where you can also get an access code using a credit card:

You can obtain an access code using a bank card.

1 access code = 2.00 EUR (approx. 2.10 USD)

To use this service you must have

A VISA - MASTERCARD - CB
A valid e-mail address

When your payment has been received you will be sent your
access code.
A copy will be sent to you by e-mail.

No description of the site accessed will appear on
your bank statement or in the e-mail.
You will only be debited once.

The codes can only be used
on the site to be accessed.

I don't believe that.  And that is a left over from an old myth that a patent officer resigned because "Everything that can be invented has been invented."

Which is not true.

This is interesting:

On MTS2 Bruno posted lipsticks and lip glosses that have a special alpha that plumps up lips:

Notice the posting dates.

On TSR this morning from Iced Mango:

No credit, no mention of Bruno.
733  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / paysites get desparate on: 2007 May 07, 11:02:09
I think this "community" project shows exactly how much of a psychological along with financial impact the pirates are having on paysites.  This would never have been done if PMBD did not exist and if this site hasn't gotten more and more well known around the community. It is a direct response to you and your efforts.  I never even knew half the stuff that I know now until I read the "Why do people hate paysites" thread on S2C.  That for me, was when piracy on the sea of paysites went from one small boat to a fleet.  No matter how many threads are deleted, people are banned or moderators try to ignore you, the fact remains that this place is having an effect.

This ought to make several SA's happy.  As far as I know, SA's are not asked, they are just given SA status.  FA's are asked (right? Nouk said she was asked and turned it down).  So, if this is true, then all those SA's that were made before this announcement did not agree to anything.  But now they have rules and obligations.
