Having studied English as a foreign language in one of the top universities in Europe, I'd go with the Firefox spelling.
I'm pretty sure my native speaker professors would agree with me (and firefox) on this one.

I used to teach English as a foreign language to 10 year olds. Unfortunately kids that young cannot grasp the difference between 1337-speak and proper spelling. So, I'm sorry to say, but it seems you'll be stuck with them.

Oh yeah, and they insisted on saying LOL in classroom, despite me explaining to them that it's an acronym, not a real word.  :roll:
