in the last weeks our bandwidth goes higher and higher, but the support for WfS goes lower and lower. And I found a hacker attack on my server.  :( Therefore from now you need an username/password for the free files also. On the signup page you can choose the free membership and sign for a lifetime free account. I hope for your understanding. For WoodClub members it isn't required, your login works on the whole site.

BTW: WFS is one of the VERY few sites that successfully  made the crossover from TS1 to TS2.

does she think this pity party email is going to have her users saying "zomg im so sorry bandwidth is high, here is 100 dollars! nevermind, take my whole check!" lol, her support doesnt need to be low, needs to be zero.

Sucks that someone is attacking their site though.  I DO have sympathy for that.

You can say what you want about WFS, but their stuff is well made and original.

And their subsciption fee has stayed the same since Sims1. I'm guessing she (I can't remember her name) has stayed on the same hosting service since her sims 1 days, and they are probably overcharging her.

Somebody in the know should write to her and point out the alternatives, (i.e.  cheaper hosting available and voluntary donations button). I don't know anything about hosting services so I'm not the best person to offer her advice...

Honestly, I've always thought WFS was part pay because the owner just continued from sims 1 days, same as Sandy at ATS. Neither of them have seemed greedy to me.

I don't see how that's supposed to reduce their bandwidth usage. You'd think it'd increase both bandwidth and CPU consumption when people have to now look at your shitty login page, too. Plus, doing the encryption and authentication for everyone is computationally expensive and will actually increase your load.

Title: Email from Wood for Sims
Post by: Duckie on 2007 June 26, 19:20:17
I subbed to WFS way back during Sims 1. I did have a soft spot for her stuff then. She does do nice work and is a very nice person. I don't know the story about her hosting, etc. except that her sub prices haven't risen over the years.

All that aside I have gotten emails from her in the past saying things similar to the typical paysite owner excuse for charging for content. I don't know if presenting her with the alternatives would do any good but one won't know unless one tries, eh? If someone does present her with the alternatives they should be either fluent in German or a native speaker as I think that would be the best way to communicate with her. Less chance of any kind of misunderstanding due to language differences.

ETA: I agree with you Pes. I think that idea is her misguided attempt at foiling the "hacker" she claims is attacking her site. *shrug*

I do like WFS stuff and I subscribed back in sims 1 days for a few months. Nofrena isn't like Sandy at ATS though. Nearly all of Sandy's stuff is free and if you donate once as little as $5, you get all the content forever.

Nofrena isn't as bad as Peggy or Vita, but she shouldn't be charging. Of course, she could always upload her things for free at Insim or MTS2 and never have to worry about bandwidth again.

Another email from lovely Nofrena:

Dear evilredduckie,

<snip>Lots o' words boohooing about Sims 1</snip>

I'm a bit tired – for more than five years I try to make a good job, to
make a good website, to offer good things for a low price, some things for
free also, to reply all emails, to help for every problem and what is the
result more and more? The peoples sent us bad emails, talk bad about us,
there are pirate sites who offers our stuff and there are respectable
peoples they think this theft is the right way.
What a crazy world...
And by the way: many many thanks for all users who supports WfS and who appreciate our work! :)

From now up to 31th august we have a much lower price for our cd's and
dvd. It's a summer special for all users who are at home in their holidays.
;) Look here for the offers: http://www.woodforsims.de/html/wfsdvd.html

From 1th august the amount for 1 month WoodClub membership is 4.80 Euro. I hope for your understanding – the real life is expensive and after I paid the PayPal fee the actually price is to low. The prices for more than one month will not be changed.

Bad Pirate Sites! Bad! *hand slap* You shouldn't be "stealing" from these poor people who don't want to work for a living like normal people.

Please. Get an actual job. Don't buy games if you can't afford to have, without selling crap for it to kids who don't understand that it's illegal[generalization].

Paysite owners seem like the people who would do those "home business ventures" I always see on TV.

Ugh, no sympathy for her.

The only site I donate to is ATS2, because you get to choose how much to donate and it lasts forever. Plus being able to download the entire set in one fell swoop is great too. Sandy is a sweetheart and I wish more people would follow her example. *coughcoughNOFRENAcoughcough*

Apparently, the fisherman's set diving board overrides the Maxis diving board. Plus, a lot of the stuff is set at $1 cost, which I hate, and beds are the 1/2 crap settings. I had to do a lot of work in SimPE to make them respectable. Never going there again.

The diving board was fixed, there is an update in the booty.  :D
Well, I do like some of her objects though I have no need for stuff like the barn or fishermans set. What I hate is when sites make some parts of the same set pay and the other free, like WFS or Simgedoehns. You can't really use the freebies alone without the rest of the set.

Just got another e-mail from her:

Quote
I have some good news for WoodClub members: the prices for members with a paid account (active or expired) are lower now. If you renew your
membership through your membership page
(http://www.woodforsims.de/html/org_account.html), you can save money:
  30 days =   3,50 Euro (instead 4,80 Euro)
  60 days =   6,90 Euro (instead 7,50 Euro)
  90 days = 10,00 Euro (instead 11,00 Euro)
180 days = 18,00 Euro (instead 20,00 Euro)

So new and free members needs to pay the higher amount just one time.
You also can extend your account if it is still active. The program adds
the days up to the available ones automatically.

Perhaps you don't know it: WoodClub members have access to all downloads for Sims1 and Sims2 again. The only difference for Sims1 users: they can choose if they want to buying sets or to signing for the WoodClub. :)

So she raised prices because "those bad pirates were stealing" and now she's having to lower prices? ROFL!

So she wants to make me into a criminal by supporting her illegal activity?  What she is doing is illegal and in direct violation of EA's copyright. She doesn't have a licensing agreement to sell CC, so according to the US copyright office it is illegal to do so. I can't support these criminals, what's wrong with their brain cells?

Here we go again.  Another one with a web site that is being leached for bandwidth.

I guess TSR wants her now too?

Perhaps she told them no already or not.  Just seems funny that now she is getting a LOT of bandwidth usage and we know why donations are down.

If she gets hits with a huge bill she will have no choice but to close down and join TSR to get the money to pay the bill.

I really believe that because donations are down, this plays right into Thomas's hands.  All he has to do is make sure that their bandwidth bill will be bigger then what they are getting for subs.

Just my opinion.

I don't know, Hecubus. TSR has been manipulating the sim's community for financial gain from the beginning. We know they're a pack of dishonest, money obsessed creeps, so it's not implausible to imagine them pulling crap on their paysite competitors in order to manipulate them.

You don't have to be smart to be a greedy cretin.

I'd hang onto it, you never know when they'll try to read your mind, Hec, and find out when the next booty update is... Seriously, the pattern is suspicious. Bandwidth goes up, incoming profit goes down. Owner is going to pack it in, Thoma$$ steps in and offers them a spot at his site, where if they're good enough, he'll pay them. Bam! More competition is gone because they now work for him and if they leave over something, he thinks that he can keep their stuff and keep on selling it. Too bad WE can't trace where most of their traffic is coming from, make logs to show it and prove that's what the CENSORED is doing. I know, I sound like I'm wearing a tinfoil hat, too, don't I? But it would be possible...

Title: Email from Wood for Sims

Well, trojans can be used as part of DDOS attacks, turning computers of unwitting owners into ROBOT ATTACKERS.  And TSR did just happen to have a trojan alert pop up on its site recently, right?  *TINFOIL*

Or it could be poor design, non-optimized graphics  and/or a shitty web host.

Or, hey, she could just be lying about the cost of bandwidth to justify charging a fee.

*shrug*

Not like THAT's a new trick.

We don't need to give the ratfinks out there more ideas that will help them harass others, do we? When they think for themselves, they are merely annoying and stupid. Why should we think up clever evil plans for them?

Personally, I'm really fond of everything Macarossi (http://www.modthesims2.com/creator/macarossi). Wood for Sims is ok, but it just doesn't have the texture quality necessary for running on a high resolution...wood grain looks off. And Bad Paysite Bad!

I normally make fun of/hate conspiracy theories. Although some are much more believable, then not. Unless of course it is something stupid I did, then it is a a real conspiracy. Honest!

However, knowing the players in this one. I believe it could be happening just like you say. Thomas drives up bandwidth, then runs in like a knight in shining armor. Come join us, and I'll pay you to create for us. Are you feeling mistreated, not appreciated in your community? I need you, my community will appreciate you, and I'll pay you. Of course most will just appreciate you so they can earn a free download day. But you'll feel like a king/queen. Yep, sounds about right.

I keep asking about that site. I wonder how accurate they are. Take a look at Holy Simoly and MTS2. According to that thing Holy Simoly although lower ranked than MTS2, because they haven't been around as long as MTS2, and they take that into consideration. Shouldn't they be using a ton more bandwidth, then MTS2 does. And MTS 2 should be using a lot more bandwidth than TSR. The booty should be using more than both sites. According to it, the average amount of people that visit MTS2 averages between 3,000 and 10,000 a day. With an average of 4 pages for each visit. Holy Simoly has 110,000 to 150,000 visitors per day with an average page view of 6. TSR only averages between 800 and 1,500 a day with an average page view of 4 as well. Which to me would mean if Delphy said I believe, I could be wrong...but I thought he said it's 1,500 a month for all his servers and things? And if he has an average of 3,000 to 10,000 visitors a day, then how big is Holy Simoly's bill if she/they have over 100,000 people visiting everyday? Or maybe I'm just not reading it right. Understanding it?

ETA Sorry about that the booty gets an average of 45,000 visitors. But I didn't find anything on page views, which I wouldn't expect since I don't think there are any pages there? Oh and PS some of these number might have changed since I was there last, so not sure how the numbers thing works. I think they do a three month thing, daily, etc...

The number of visitors per day as recorded by Alexa is merely a sampling of those who have managed to get Alexa trackingware embedded on their computers somehow, and number of hits or pages has only a loose correlation to the amount of bandwidth a site actually consumes, as the amount of crap pulled from your page influences how much bandwidth is consumed per hit. A bare page like the kind I'd produce consumes practically no bandwidth even with thousands of hits. A crappy page like Peggy's likely chews up a meg or more anytime someone hits it.

Thank you for explaining that. I was wondering how they would know how many hits a day a site took, ranking, etc...Like I told you before I really am HTML illiterate. So I wasn't understanding how one site could get more hits/page views, yet the other site was using more bandwidth. I think I understand now. Blinkies, graphic intense bad/Bare minimum fantastic. ;)

No - not yet - everyone pitch in and keep writing

When they talk about stretching the table, see how there is a scroll bar up the side, but none along the bottom of your page?  That's because the table is not stretched.  Sometimes, if someone posts something huge, it doesn't wrap the text (and particularly with photos) and the scroll bar has to be used to read the text all the way to the edge, rather than just scrolling down.  That's what stretching the table is.  It can be aggravating - but usually in forums, dealable.  Like everyone said - you get to the next page soon anyway.

Years ago I stupidly had joined up to WFS briefly and ever since then I get stupid emails from her from time to time. Anyway Nofrena's greed obviously knows no bounds, as she's using her wedding to try to draw in more customers  ::) ...

on august 4th I will marry, I told it in my last newsletter. Therefore I
have a special offer for my friends: on this one day you can buy the whole
stuff for a funny low price:

The only thing funny about that low price is that she expects people to pay for her stuff at all...

The sad thing is, a lot of people WILL pay for it.   In my Sims 1 Subscription Paysites Are The Greatest days, I would have jumped on the deal.  TSR, WFS, WDS, SimFreaks, KillerSims, SimHost, PickleSims...."Hello, my name is Sheeple, and I WAS a Subscription Whore" :-*.

edited for an incomplete sentence and/or thought and/or idea....hell, I skipped a couple of necessary words and misspelled some, shoot me
