Title: "Who is ILLEGAL" poll @ inBeatz
Post by: MoonDragon on 2007 June 18, 05:38:32
I was looking through WS's finds and happened across this site (http://www.inbeatz.com/sims/).  There is currently a poll asking if paysites are the villians or we are.  There is also space to leave comments if you feel the need.  The current results are 142 to 19 in our favor.

If you wish to comment, please don't use apostrophs ( ' <-- this sign ), because my site engine is so dumb, that it erases all messages with ' ://

I'm now curious to find out who are the 29 jerks who voted against PSMBD.

(edit), I mean, you can support or not the idea of file sharing, you can support or not the idea of paysites, they're pretty much personal points of view. But pay sites ARE illegal, no matter what is your view on it. Free creators always said that, and now EA confirmed. So, wtf? How can sharing for free files that should be released for free at first, be *illegal* ?

Great poll, Helena! :)

Although since you are a known PMBD symphatizer, I think the results might not be reliable. You're bound to have more pirate friendly visitors on your site than paysite supporters.

Now, wouldn't that be interesting if the same poll was on S2C or MTS2. They have much more visitors from all walks of (simming) life, and the poll would reflect the feelings of the simming community more accurately.

You could post a link to the poll in S2C's paysite thread ... or would that be against one of their rules?

Thanks, Alia.
Yeah, I guess that my poll won't be reliable at all, after this topic here
At least till someone opens the same topic in some hidden-paysite-owners-community

The results would still be unreliable, because of the context  where the link was posted. Almost all paysite supporters have disappeared from the paysites thread at SC2, so the great majority of the readers/posters in that thread would be anti-paysite.

The only way to get reliable results would be if it was on the opening page of S2C, outside of the pro/anti-paysite context.

Interestingly, the paysite supporters haven't posted comments.

And there are still people who consider downloading from the Booty as something they shouldn't do. *headshake*  Silly people.

EA haven't confirmed anything official. I know about all the letters, I even wrote them one myself.
So I'm not sure, that we can say  "EA confirmed", before they make say this official, not in private chats.

I've asked them if they are going to make an announcement against paysites.
That's what they replied :
Electronic Arts does plan to make an announcement regarding custom content and pay sites in the near future. Unfortunately, I can't say at what point that will be at this time as we are reviewing all aspects of custom content built outside of EA Tools. However, its say to say that any content created with Bodyshop or Homebuilder would fall under the EA Sims EULA.

It's like neither "yes" nor "no". I guess if everything was so simple - they were not thinking for so long.

I didn't mean to skew your results.  I just wanted to make sure people knew about it and I've heard TSR reads us.  Maybe if you leave it open for awhile word will get to the other side?  What site would let the poll be advertised and attract both camps?

Oh, don't worry :D There were enough anti-paysite votes before this topic, so I think you haven't screwed anything.
The poll will be opened for a long time. Even if there will be a new poll on the main page, the older ones are all still available for voting.

Yup, and just think what scary hell when her personalities suddenly conflict with each other at the same time, arguing all together in her little messy brain...must suck to be her

Well, yes, but normally in such a situation the personalities argue about deep and philosophical things, like whether or not life has a point and the technicalities (and morals) of going on murdering rampages. Nice to know she's pathetic enough for her mental disorders to revolve around paysites. Isn't she meant to have a daughter?

Really   ? 'Cos I remember I read this thing somewhere (I believe it was NoukieSims), a letter were this guy from EA said that selling stuff made using EA tools is against US copyright law.

*search for it*

Here it is (http://www.noukiesims2.net/EAconfirms.gif), Nouk posted it on her site.

"If you use a tool created by Electronic Arts and wish to charge money for the content created with that tool afterwards, then you are in violation of US Copyright Law. Several countries share and/or recognize US copyright law."

I thought the guy was pretty much saying that paysites are considered illegal by EA Games.

It would be quite embarassing for me if I got it wrong, 'cos since when I read that I've been going around saying paysites are illegal.
Erm.

It's funny how paysites just pretend that Maxis/EA's terms of agreement never existed. And kind of annoying.

Stella: I think most people are waiting for a statement on the official site from someone at EA legal--that's what most of them tend to mean when they say they want an official statement.

Yes, I read this letter too. I guess they had a talk with some specialists in law after that. Because when I wrote them my letter they weren't so sure about on who's side they would be in their final announcement.
Actually there is one thing. You can't "create" stuff in bodyshop. You can only export and import files. Creating always does in other programs. So I think that's what they are thinking about for so long.
I hope they will announce that all the .package files are their own, and we cannot sell them.
But. I am telling you that we shouldn't be very happy now and yell everywhere that EA confirmed something. We can do that _only_ when EA officially announces that on their site. Not in fanmail.
