I remember seeing that back when there first was some LyricLee bashing over her pics.

From what I gather she deserved every bit.. except... Is she a lesbian? That's an offense to lesbians all over the world... I won't like it if she's hetero either... Perhaps she's like a furry-guro or something.

It's LyricLee. Her looks are also discussed here (http://phorum.mustnotbenamed.com/viewtopic.php?t=3&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=lyriclee&start=315).

Now give me a cookie, I've been a good girl!

Oh man, I wish I'd thought of that.

Looking at some of the threads, there are a lot of /b/tards here, some of which are ED-ers, so who knows. But, it's possibly the same person who added the booty link to the bottom of this article.

I'm sure she's not really uglier than any of us.

I just wish she wouldn't... You know... Do that thing she does to the camera. And also, stop trying to manipulate the picture to be better, because... It is SO not working.

Title: Who Put This There?
Post by: Garnet on 2007 April 25, 18:13:38
I don't know...I don't like some of the stuff she's done, but I don't really think she's ugly at all.  I'm not too into women myself, but she's hardly a beast.

Title: Who Put This There?
Post by: liegenschonheit on 2007 April 25, 18:46:43
Not to be a brat or anything, but I don't find that shit even remotely funny. Ridiculing girls on the internet and calling them fat cows is good fun? That's probably one reason so many girls have eating disorders, or even have such awful body image that they think suicide would be a better alternative. If one of MY ugly ass pictures was posted on that site with a quote like "insert bacon  plz", I'd probably seriously want to kill myself too.

I'd like to see the assholes that run that site post pictures of themselves so we can all call them a bunch of greasy, ugly retards too.

*edit* I agree with Garnet. Lyric isn't fat, a cow, or completely ugly either. As far as I can see from her pics, she's probably somewhere around average. We're not all Kate my-hipbones-can-carve-an-easter-ham Moss, you know.

Title: Who Put This There?
Post by: Electricstatic on 2007 April 25, 19:18:46
I agree with liegenschonheit. Also, all the flinging of "lesbian" and "dyke" really pisses me off. I don't understand WHY people use those words as insults. Being a lesbian doesn't make someone any less of a woman. Someone's sexual orientation has nothing to do with their personality, and lesbian doesn't always equal "butch, fat, and ugly."

I don't consider Lyric ugly at all, and I don't think mocking her appearance adds any value to our critique of her personality.

edit: Though I must add that Myspace-style pictures ARE stupid, and Photoshopping is completely pointless.

Uhm...well...having had/or still have I dunno an ED myself, and even writing my A-Level Paper about Pro-Ana, nobody mentioned the EncyDrama as a reason but all listed the media and their thinspos.

A) Your fault if you put such a picture online, MySpace creams over with shit pics
B) What can be found on the internet can be kept.

I agree though that some of the commentaries are evil though. But what else can you expect from the ED.

Welcome to the Internet, in all its heinous glory. Also, if the fact that someone you've never met is ridiculing your appearance makes you want to kill yourself, you've got some other problems.

Edit: Proverbial "you," not directed specifically, of course.

I think the biggest criticism on that page is about the women using photoshop  and camera angles to make themselves look better.  However, they fail to mention how professionals do the same to models and celebrities.  How can one group of people do it and the other can't?  Hmmm..

Edit:  Here's an example of what I'm talking about.. http://homepage.mac.com/gapodaca/digital/bikini/index.html

(And yes, Lyric doesn't look "bad" to me.. she looks average.  It's her personality that I do not like and makes her ugly to me.)

Just because it isn't mentioned doesn't mean that they think it's any better.

Can't say it bothers me at all when people criticise my looks, if people think I'm ugly and say so, fair enough. There's a pretty unflattering picture of me floating around the internet somewhere. Mind, had I made an effort to look attractive or sexy in it and people had mocked it, I might feel different, but I doubt it.

I'm a big woman. I never used to be until my first child was born. My thyroid failed. None of us choose to be big, trust me. Even when I was small, though, I didn't make fun of those who were big. It isn't usually something you opt for. I don't like pics of myself because I don't like my looks. I never have liked my looks even when I was younger, though. But I do hear the comments and it hurts. They think they can say shit about my personal habits and such when they have no fucking clue what goes on in my life. I diet. I try to exercise, but if your glands don't work right, you are fucked. I don't have the money for surgery and insurance won't cover what they regard as elective. It really isn't because it would save a lot of bills later on if my heart fails or I have a stroke because of the extra pounds I carry. Being fat is not fun.
As for the homophobic words that get used, grow the fuck up! That is as bad as racism...

That was a hateful site. I would feel bad if I were being ridiculed there. Fortunately, I've had the good sense to never post a pic of myself online. It's bad form to go after someone for their appearance. I don't think she's particularly ugly either, pretty average.

That was pretty mean. Not to be mean with this next comment but: I wonder how they do it? I mean seriously I want to gain some weight and I can't for the life of me. Last year i was 125 (lowest normal weight for my height) this year in feb. I was 115 (I lost 10 lbs some how) A month after that I was still the same. I went to the doctor 2 weeks ago I was all of a sudden 112. So I tried to gain more weight and succeeded in barely gaining 2 more lbs. I went to the doctor yesterday and I had lost those 2 lbs some how. I just can't seem to gain the weight I want to gain for the life of me. I eat TONS and I mean Tons of food. Every kind healthy unheathy you name it I eat it. Any how I'm trying to gain 11 lbs to get back up to 125 because I looked great then. Any tips? I don't exercise that much so I know I'm not losing weight that way.

Anyway sorry to turn this thread around.

Being overweight can be a medical problem quite similar to being underweight, for whatever reason your body doesn't want to maintain what would be it's ideal weight. Either way, "fat" or "stick thin", people are cruel and will make fun of you.

I know they are making fun of the camwhoring and all that, but the whole making fun of "fat girls" being okay just gets to me. I get in people's faces that do it in real life too. I know that it seems shallow and stupid to get so obsessed with weight and looks, but in this society it's a big freaking deal. I won't get into details, but when I was going through therapy for problems of my own, I met a girl who really did try to kill herself because her boyfriend called her a fat, ugly cow and said that sex with her was like fucking a beached whale. It hurts so bad because a lot of women have been hearing that same type of shit their entire lives, and eventually it just becomes part of who you are. It breaks my heart, partly because it's something I see in myself that I can't erraticate, and mostly because a lot of these women and girls are beautiful, even if they don't look like supermodels.

Anyway, yeah. That's my rant. I know that it's part of the internet, and while I would be hurt and probably never want to leave my house again if that was my pic (or at least until I needed milk), some of those girls look really young. That kind of stuff just seemed to cut way deeper at that age. Fat or skinny, those girls should have thought twice about the nakedy pics though... why would you post that on the intarweb?

Title: Who Put This There?

RedLove, it sounds to me as if you need to get your thyroid checked, it could be going into a hyper phase. I know what I'm talking about because I had it for years and then when I was preggers the damn thing shit out on me and so I am stuck with the weight I gained. Thyroid disease in one form or another is so often over looked in females and it has a bearing on over all health. Untreated it can cause heart problems, among a host of others. Do yourself a favour and get it checked. I can't imagine why your doctor didn't suggest that.... Please, do it and find out. Then, if it isn't the thyroid, we can see if I can give you a body fat transplant.... Hey, don't laugh, I would if I could!

I feel so relieved that stuff like that doesn't bother me. I've been considered ugly for as long as I can remember, I was widely considered the ugliest girl in school until I got to high school and was usurped by a very hairy girl. It just stopped bothering me when I was about 10 and I accepted I was never going to be pretty, and that it really wasn't important to be pretty. Twice I've slept with blokes who later denied sleeping with me and said I was too ugly for them, but though it did bother me a little at first, I was mostly just ashamed that I'd slept with two total bastards.

lol I'd gladly accept. I've had everything checked because a lot of women in my family can't seem to gain weight like I can. Almost every woman in my family has thyroid problems. Either they gain too much or not enough weight. Anyhow My doctor said to give it a little more time but I don't understand since I lost those two pounds I worked so hard to gain. He's put me on steroids(for something else) and it seems to be making me eat more and hopefully will help me gain weight.

Actually, I don't consider that stuff (and the LyricLee addition) as a mock against fat people. I see that as mocking people who chose to expose themselves to popular judgement, posting online their pictures, artificially modified on purpose, by their own will .

In that gallery on ED there are some pics clearly not pertaining the topic, but representative of what Liegenshonheit said. If I were an editor, I would remove them, but alas. The topic, however, is different.

I am fat, I hate my look to the point I purpousely avoid to show my hated body around, both in person or picture, as much as I can; Rationally I don't think it's right, and I sincerely envy those - even uglier than me - that don't mind and do what they want anyway, and live happy and free.

I don't think I would commit suicide if someone mocks me on the internet about my pictures, but I would feel terribly bad for sure; but that's the trick: I don't post online pictures of myself, expecially if they're bad.

Title: Who Put This There?
Post by: MizzKitty on 2007 April 25, 21:43:07
I think... to have someone put your pic on that site you have to first really piss someone off... I doubt anyone just go trawling for girls to be mean to.

Anyhoo... I have a blog, too. I am not particularly interested in any of you reading it, but for the sake of argument, here's me and my entire family (http://www.deardiary.net/show/diaries/74708/1167350400).

Now see if I care if some of you put me up on ED and call me a fat, lesbian cow. I know that the ones that matter don't think so and I have grown beyond caring what ze random interweb-pplz think.

And I will stand by my point of view which was, afair, she is not the ugliest person I have seen but her poses and photoshopping scare me. I mean, if she's gonna photoshop it, can't she at least do it well? :P

Title: Who Put This There?
Post by: RedLove on 2007 April 25, 21:44:29
I don't understand how people can make fun of that. Sometimes it is a health issue. And sometimes it can turn into health issues. Not funny now huh? That's the only problem I have with people who don't exercise or try to get slim. They are just creating health problems for themselves. But I really feel bad for the people who exercise and can't lose the weight.

Title: Who Put This There?
Post by: Garnet on 2007 April 25, 21:45:20
The thing I have to remember about sites like that one, a lot of communities, LJ, etc. is the pack-animal mentality most of us have.  Even if a person doesn't necessarily agree that another one is ugly/fat/stupid/whatever insult we've chosen, he or she is probably going to be tempted to join in the mockery, both to "fit in" and in hopes that it'll keep the hyenas' attention on some other target.  (And yes, I'm guilty of this myself.)

So yeah, if I posted photos of myself online and some group started making fun of them (which is highly possible), I'd be hurt, and probably shocked by how far some people take it.  But I'd have to realize that people in general just kind of suck, and they're even worse in mobs.

Whoops, my antisocial nature seems to have slipped its bonds.  But you know what I mean.

Sounds to me that the guys had the problem-probably wanted to make her think that no-one else would have her, so she wouldn't leave him.
I'm lucky-my fiance stuck by me when i had a medical problem that made me put on 7 stone(98 llbs) in 3 years he loves me what ever(yeah a bit puke worthy really!). Its not nice neing overweight knowing there's absolutely nothing you can do about it. My 1st Doc just said I over ate and that was it (I didn't think that i did). Turns out I have PCOS & type 2 diabetes, which made me unable to lose weight, so anything I ate, couldn't really burn off. Anyhoo, I'm on the mend now and am almost back to normal thanks to one amazing Doc that I sought a second opinion from.

What I'm saying is, being fat isn't always as it seems (greed). Although trying to hide it pure self esteem issues (even thin people get it low esteem sometimes)

I don't know Lyriclee-never had any dealings with her what-so-ever, but judging by some post I've read (not just here), she is a damn ugly person inside, which, hey-I'd rather be fat than a horrible, mean spirited person anyday!

Meh, if they wanted to poke fun at camwhoring, why not just do that then? Those pics have plenty of stuff apart from the girls' weight to scorn. Scorn their poses, clothes (or lack there of) or angles or the amount of photoshop they used, I'm sure more sarcastically-inclined people would have a field day. Because frankly a lot of them don't look that fat (at least what I consider fat) to me. Sure they don't have an 11 year old's body like Paris Hilton - guess what? Most women don't.
It gets to me because more and more the word "fat" even when the girl is nowhere near fat is used as an insult. How a healthy looking woman with curves is "plus sized". One of my friends is a recovering bulimic. She reads this shit and it triggers her like hell, she starts weighing herself like mad and questioning her appearance and so on, then stops eating. And she actually has SUPPORT from friends and family; I dread to think what girls like the one in Liegen's example would do...except try to fit this stupid ideal of beauty and thinness. No wonder Pro-Ana and Pro-Mia groups pop up everywhere and feed off the wall, dangerous ideas for weightloss to susceptible teenage girls. I know one girl who tried to inject herself with a virus her father was working with (as a microbiologist) to loose weight, or drink 8 vodkas straight. People like these probably think it's funny.
Sorry about the rant.

My friends and I tease each other about weight all the time.  I tend to get anorexic--I had a friend who has a thyroid problem, but hers was keeping/making her small.  The top of her head reached my collarbone, give or take an inch, and I don't think she's over 100 pounds.  The joking about weight doesn't really bother me because, obviously, it's friends talking--they know you beyond your weight.  (It did bother my friend when people called her anorexic--she's obviously small.)

I don't care too much what the people on the Internet have to say, or what strangers/acquaintances IRL have to say about how I look.  If their entire opinion of me is based on my weight, the clothes I wear, the gadgets I keep around me; if their opinion of me is based on the superficial and they make no attempt to see what's beyond that, they aren't worth my time.

My little brother is not little at all--he's a couple of inches taller than me and twice my weight (I tend to be around 120 pounds).  It's not muscle.  I know he gets shit at school for how he looks and for his personality--I might not be the one that's overweight, but it pisses me off to see people give him a hard time just because he's not the same as everyone else, that he's not a thin, blond-haired, blue-eyed sports fanatic panting over girls.

I'll admit that I'll definitely think shit about people--too fat, too thin, ugly, disgusting, perverted, idiotic, damned liar, whatever.  But unless they give me grief, start up a fight with me for whatever reason, I don't tell them what I think to their face, and it's nothing I care to discuss with other people.

My two cents on the weight thing: People are overweight for any number of reasons...people are underweight for any number of reasons...some are the same. What sucks is (a) society values thin over fat and (b) fat is about the only thing left that you can be mean to others about without the PC police getting offended. It's not okay to call someone a nigger but it's okay to call them porky? yeah.....something sucks there.

I'm overweight for any number of reasons...genes, medications, psychology...I've lost up to 100 pounds and gained most of it back...time and time again. But except for my current issues of herniated discs and long-term depression, I'm healthy, strong, have great blood sugar/cholesterol/blood pressure, and can expect to live a long life. Would I like to weigh less? yeah...only because I've got some cute clothes in a few sizes lower than I can wear right now. But I'll live. Most days, there are far more important things than what I weigh.

And what's best is that there are people who love people of all sizes and despite their sizes. Thank the gods!

Regarding the 'fat chick pose' thing: who in those pics were really fat? Not many of them, that's for sure. And sure...don't we all pose to get our 'best side'?

Regarding LyricLee's pic: she didn't look fat (or lesbian)...she looks mean. She looks hate-filled. And THAT is what turned me off of her pic. I knew instantly which pic it was BEFORE I re-read Pescado's directions...she had that pissed-at-the-world-and-gonna-make-sure-you-pay-for-it look.

Okay...so that was more like a buck-forty-five. Clink clink.

I like your blog and you are very pretty and your brother's fiancee (I think that is who it was) has the most awesome blue eyes I have ever seen!

I do wish I could photo shop as well as she did, scary or not... I want my double chin out of my pics!

I just face the camera on the rare occasions when someone takes a photo of me. I've never taken a photo of myself, unless you count using a photo booth to get a photo for my passport.

I don't think Lyric  looks fat in that picture, I think she looks a bit on the plump side, but not huge. But I do laugh at the picture, not because of her looks or her weight, but because I think there's something silly about putting on a shitload of make up, taking a photo of yourself from above, with about 40% face/60% boobs, fiddling around with the contrast and then posting it on the internet.

My only complaint on Lyriclee's photo debut is that I'm totally not down with women that have phosphorous skin. I mean, you're trying to sleep and whoa. It's like a night light.

Wait, that's photoshop. Um.

Nice eyes, if that's their real colour.

Being overweight can be a medical problem quite similar to being underweight, for whatever reason your body doesn't want to maintain what would be it's ideal weight.

I refuse to buy that argument on the grounds that it violates the law of conservation of mass. It's not physically possible to gain weight if you don't eat enough to do so. I mean, where the hell are you pulling that extra mass from? It's just not physically possible. The amount of weight you can gain is necessarily limited to be less than the amount you eat.

Actually the overweight people who are genetically like that eat just as much as thin to average people. It's just they inherited one of their ancestors' body type and their metabolism is naturally slower. So more of the food they eat turns into fat than for thin to average weighted people.

Yeah, I'm new here and I was just reading over this topic. I dislike Lyric just as much as anybody else here, she's just a internet loser who can't moderate for shit, and I don't mind people making fun of her pictures because I generally just don't care. I wouldn't care whoever it was, unless it was someone I knew and actually cared about.

Just thought I'd add that little rant in anyway.

i can say without feeling sorry for myself that i am a 19 year old female and weigh 210lbs, this has nothing to do with how much i eat, infact i do indeed eat far less than what my 'skinny' friends eat, and it truly angers me when people think i eat less because i'm self concious because of my weight, i eat less because i stop eating when i'm full, thats the bottom line. my body type is common in my family, the women are all short statured and a bit over weight, and it bothers me to see people giving people a hard time for being over weight when its not neciciarily their fault. I personally have had my thyroid tested multiple times and thats proven not to be the problem, i excercise, and i do eat healthy, don't touch fast food, and im still a chub, but im okay with it! Its ok to slam people for being mean and having bad attitudes, but enough with the "shes such a fat cow" stuff, thats so middle school.

INTERNET: SERIOUS BUSINESS.

Why are so many of you taking this seriously? Have you actually read some of the other shit on that site? They make fun of everything imaginable. They make ridiculous comments. And hell, there are articles written about some of the staff members that make fun of them.

Jesus fucking Christ, people.

Quote

That's a horrible comparison for so many reasons. This isn't meant to be omgsomean or anything, but if an individual is fat, it's an easily observable phenomenon. "Porky" is demeaning but it doesn't represent 400+ goddamned years of slavery like the term "nigger" does. "Porky" doesn't say you're subhuman. "Porky" doesn't say you have no right to exist/you exist at the pleasure of white people because we're superior."

Since you all seem to have missed the point, the article is more so pointing out the "camwhoring" phenomenon. This is an offshoot of that phenomenon - specifically, people taking photos from extremely retarded angles (and copious amounts of photoshop) to make themselves look better and IT DOES NOT WORK. Why anyone would care so much about what internet personalities think about their appearance is well beyond me; you obviously have some self-esteem issues above and beyond being overweight.

Point: if you were truly happy with how you looked, you wouldn't give a damn what people said or thought; you wouldn't care about Hollywood's interpretation of how women should look (an image promoted by gay men, btw, so think about that for a sec), and I highly doubt the average person is paying THAT much attention to you to note "Wow, that woman is soooo fat?" Self-absorbed, much?

Oh, and the irony of all this - I doubt LyricLee even cares as much as you do.

Edit: She's too busy selling Maxis recolors lolololol

Oh lawd, it was worse than I thought. And I never noticed anything about the skintones (besides the defaults being fucking ugly, of course). What a loon.

FYI, because I know someone's going to descend upon this thread with "but u don't know what it's like to be fat!??"; yes, I do. I've been on and off diets since I was 9. I'm now 20. If anything, so much dieting fucked my metabolism and I've been trying to build it back up so I can burn off what I eat more efficiently, since that's the root of the problem. I exercise. I watch what the hell I put in my mouth. Granted, there are some factors I can't control (steroids in American meat and dairy, aspartame which dicks with your metabolism and is present in most diet foods, and so on), but the key is moderation. What I don't do, is blame every external factor for my problem and listen to other people tell me how I should look and what I should do.

I just wanted to randomly chime in to say I use to have the same Mustard Plug shirt (Mustard Plug = a pop-punk band) back when I thought I was so cool for listening to punk bands. Then again I was a 13 year old girl, and 13 year old girls tend to be ridiculous. From what I've seen/heard about LyricLee, she's pretty ridiculous as well.

I guess I have nothing else to add to the rest of the thread, other than I have bad genetics and therefore think I am ugly. And when I cut my hair short in high school (before "emo hair" was all the rage, I had short/spiky hair in the back with a little bit longer in the front... a.k.a. reverse mullet) people called me a lesbian and said I probably had a penis, which made no sense. Pick one or the other to try to insult me with, please. So I guess I can see why they added the lesbian insult on her picture on the ED page, any female with short hair must be lesbian. However that website still made me laugh, it's the bastard in me.

Erm, sorry for the rambling after saying I had nothing to add. I tend to do that.

I also am "fat" according to the media. I think I'm perfectly normal, though. I know that as I get older, I will look thinner because my body will have grown out by then [as well as the fact that judging by my mother, I'll have fricken monstrous boobs]. Right now, I'm nearly 200 lbs. and I'll be 16 this year. But I'm also 5'8", and I have a stockier build. I'm built like a box. Of course I'd love to be a couple sizes smaller, as there are TONS of cute things I'd like to wear, but can't.
Then again, I can, but I'd just have to deal with thinking "Holy God, what the hell was I on?" in the future. ~~;;;

My father is also obese. He has type 2 diabetes and loads of other health issues. If he could, he would prolly choose to get surgery. He can barely walk as it is, and with a lighter body he could prolly stand up for more than ten minutes at a time.

That Dove evolution video scared the shit out of me. I kind of wish it was still like the 1930s or 1940s or whenever it was, when skinny women were nice but a curvy, full-figured woman was desirable. I've always admired black and Italian men because they can appreciate a curvy woman. Not that they don't like skinny women as well.
If I was a guy, I would definitely prefer a curvy woman. I know some skinny women can eat like no tomorrow, but I think it's better to prove you eat than to look like you're starving to death.

Well, for better getting it you could kind of browse around ED and see what they're about. Of course, if you're one of them too-soon (http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/index.php/Too_soon) people, maybe you shouldn't...

Re: fat subject, I always find it amusing how 90% of fat people I encounter claim they're fat because of genetics, disease, dog who ate their homework - anything but their eating habits, when statistic says it's only 5% or so of fat  cases are caused by health issues, the rest is, sorry, just plain overeating.
And what's with all that glossing over acronyms? BBW, BBQ,  my arse. It doesn't change the fact itself -- and it certainly doesn't change society's attitude towards fat folk.

I also wonder if there's a law for when one compares some internet triviality to racism or slavery, like Godwin's for summoning Hitler and the Nazis to aid you in internet drama.

No, but there will always be people online and offline who act like there is.

As said by others earlier, a lot of people laughed at the ED entry because it was about Lyric.  I think that if it was somebody decent who this happened to, some people (including myself) may not have found it so funny.  Just my 2 cents, anyway.

I strongly agree with Hecubus that picking on overweight people is something that's acceptable in our society (at least here in America) and that it's something that the PC police won't get on anyone's case about.  Like all of the other persecuted groups, they'll have to fight for their right to be accepted and to not be discriminated against.  And discrimination against them does exist because too many people can't see past their size and realize that there are intelligent and warm people behind the heavy exterior.

I'm not overweight - far from it - but it makes me sick when things like that happen.  I don't think the person who put Lyric's picture up did it because she's fat, I think he or she did it because it was one way to ridicule and hurt Lyric in a very public way.

Again, I find the concept of being fat caused by "health issues" to be ludicrous. It's simply absurd. If you eat a pound of food, you can only gain one pound, and that's assuming you burn absolutely none of it as fuel and process it with 100% efficiency. Since perfect mass conversion like so doesn't exist, and certainly not in people, it's simply an absurd idea.

The real issues are more simple: A sense of personal entitlement, and lack of personal responsibility, issues that are endemic in people today. People somehow think they're entitled to be able to eat as much as everyone else, when, in fact, the truth is that people have differing rates of fuel efficiency and if you have high fuel economy, eating as much as the "average" is going to blow you up like a balloon unless you are considerably more active. Rather than accepting this for the bonus it is, people instead whine and deny responsibility for their own actions. The truth is simple: You're fat because you enjoy pigging out more than you rightly should. If you're cool with that, hey, it's your money. I recommend you bring a crowbar for when you get yourself stuck and need to be pried out. Don't gimme that nonsense about "medical issues". Conservation of mass is not a suggestion, it is a LAW. No amount of wishful thinking and medical issues can violate the physical laws of the universe.

Quote from: "Granuaile"

They deserve it. Fatness is to an extent rightly perceived as a lack of willingness to accept personal responsibility. There are people who are fat by choice, but by and large most people are fat simply because they refuse to take responsibility for their actions, and would rather place their blame on spurious causes and excuses rather than simply accept that they shouldn't eat so much.

While I agree that some people are overweight and eat too much without burning it off, there are valid medical cases where an underactive thyroid causes a person to gain weight easily (and makes the weight harder to lose).      Some people also eat a lot of comfort food when they're truly depressed, even though it really isn't the answer to solving their problems.

You're completely right about the sense of entitlement that a lot of people have, and this crosses all boundries (including size).  I don't know where it comes from, but I see it more and more everyday at work (especially with newcomers who think they're entitled to be a supervisor just because they've filed papers for 2 weeks on the job.   )

See: "High fuel economy". People who HAVE a high fuel economy like that clearly DON'T NEED THAT MUCH FUEL. I really don't see why people complain about that. I mean, hell, if I could go from eating once every day or so to eating once a week on the same activity, I'd go for that. You'd last longer if stuck with me on a desert island, too. As it is, I burn through a lot of fuel, so I'd be forced to eat you by the third day.

Some people also eat a lot of comfort food when they're truly depressed, even though it really isn't the answer to solving their problems.

Those people are just a bunch of whiners and slackers, anyway.

Eh. After a shortwhile browsing ed is seems to be full of unfunny bullshit.

Nooo!  Don't eat me!

Seriously, I have to agree that if a person's metabolism is shot then they require less food and should eat less than those with normal or high metabolisms.  It makes sense.

(I'm not knocking those with low metabolisms because I do feel sorry for them.  But Pescado does make a good point, so please don't eat me either! )

Firstly, fat people actually have a HIGHER metabolism, not a lower one. They need the higher metabolism because otherwise they won't be able to burn ANYTHING (or something like that  ).
Secondly, I'm fat not because I eat too much (not really), nor because I eat the wrong type of food. I eat pretty healthily. I'm fact coz I don't have the motivation to do much exercise. If I did exercise I wouldn't be fat, simple.
So there. It's not ALWAYS caused by eating.

Yes it is. Since you don't move, you don't need so much food. If you do continue to consume the same fuel that someone more active needs, you will end up with a budget surplus, which translates into becoming fat. A certain amount of is good for you and keeps you from freezing to death or dying abruptly like a sim, but too much and you'll end up having to avoid being harpooned and turned into fancy cosmetic products.

Actually, you still need the same amount of food as most people. People who don't eat get fat. Simple. Starvation diets do the opposite of what you want them to do; they store food as fat because your body doesn't know when its next meal will be. If you eat less than usual, your body thinks the same; that you're trying to starve it. Therefore if you eat less than usual, you will get fat, if you eat more than usual, you will get fat, and if you eat the same as usual, you shouldn't. Fact.

How about this one?

A person eating one meal a day. One. It being dinner. Not greasy burgers, not fries dripping in oil...just say, bits of chicken with vegetables and rice. A regular amount. As for the rest of the day, say a sandwich or 4 wheat crackers and an apple.

And still gaining weight without at least one hour of exercise a day, 5 days a week.

It's a real example. How much less can a person possibly eat?  :P

Hmmm. Never been down for me, just tried again and it's up. If you still can't load it then it must be something else causing it . :?

And yea, I removed the actual link. I already made my point, see?  :P

I overeat. And I'm not healthy. I love my sweets etc. Often when I eat I AM hungry BUT I am also aware that one trains how much/little one eats and of course, a salad would make me full longer... But who wants to eat nothing but lettuce? Not me :P It's also not fun snacking lettuce while watching a movie.

Although the image of one getting bigger and bigger and bigger is fairly amusing, I do believe that most people - unless they just eat more and more - eventually come to a stand-still.

Last year, my husband had to lose weight because of heart problems.  He was active on the job but not at home, so the cardiologist put him on a diet of five small meals a day and instructed him to take walks (because he's in his 40's, and losing weight is harder once you reach middle age).

I'm not really sure if this would help anybody, but it worked out okay for him.

You are discounting the fact that MANY biological processes go into processing that pound of food...nearly every major system is affected/involved, and any number of things can cause that pound of food to be processed in a way that adds weight to the body. Let's start with the endocrine system...thyroid issues alone can cause the metabolism to slow down, which means the energy from food doesn't get burned. Then to the pancreas, where the insulin reactors may or may not be working properly to eat up the sugars..leftovers get converted to fat. Then there are kidney and liver functions that may improperly dispose of fluids, salts, etc., causing weight gain.

And that's just for starters. I won't talk about food allergies....medication-induced problems....PCOS....digestive disorders....all of which cause weight changes.

Your argument, Pescado, ignores medical facts.

And it ignores what many of us already know: A show of hands in this very random group will produce any number of people (women in particular) who eat exactly or LESS food than is required to maintain weight AND exercise regularly ...and still gain. It's not laziness, it's not a failing of willpower, it's a failing in our bodies...one we can't figure out.

Regarding entitlement: just stop that. It's an absurd argument.

Sure, if you don't mind depriving your body of all the essential nutriments it needs to function properly and lower your immune system to something practicaly inexistent. And quite plainly, go hungry as hell; because just because someone's metabolism burns fat more than the next person's it doesn't mean the body doesn't actually need the "fuel" for other processes (as Hecubus explained very well)

Tchan made a good point too - you actually gain more if you don't eat regularly, because the body hoards all food it gets. So it's much healthier to eat 3 times a day, smaller portions than one big one.

It would actually be cool, being able to eat once a week and never gain weight, and actually remain perfectly healthy. Once a month perhaps? :P It's what anorexics try...but we know how they end up.

No the real viable solution for most (I say most because cases differ) is exercise to counter the slower metabolism...since the body burns fat too slowly, you gotta give it a helping hand. It sucks, but it's the truth...

Pescado I'm sorry but that's complete bullshit. You cannot just eat nothing or little just because you have a slow metabolism. The body still needs vegetables/fruit, liquids, meat/eggs/nuts/fish/milk/yogurt/cheese (the "/" stands for "or"!) and some suguar and fat (tiny amounts though).

Skipping one category will lead to malnutrition and only slow down your metabolism. That's why crashdiets suck. Your body get's used to low calorie intake, you stop losing weight and if you don't start eating normal again, you'll eventually have a stroke or something else.

The Accurate Way
There are three primary components that make up your body's energy expenditure. Adding these three components together, basal metabolic rate, energy expended during physical activity, and the thermic effect of food is the most accurate way of determining how many calories your body requires each day.

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR): Most of the body's energy, about 60-70%, goes to supporting the ongoing metabolic work of the body's cells. This includes such activities as heart beat, respiration and maintaining body temperature. To determine your BMR:

For adult males - Multiply the body weight by 10; add double the body weight to this value.
[i.e., for a 150 lb male, 1,500 + (2 x 150)=1,800 cal/day BMR]

For adult females - Multiply body weight by 10; add the body weight to this value.
[i.e., for a 120 lb female, 1,200 + 120=1,320 cal/day BMR]

Energy Expended During Physical Activity: The second component of the equation depends upon your level of physical activity. Physical activity has a profound effect on human energy expenditure and contributes 20-30% to the body's total energy output. One of the most reliable methods in calculating calories burned during physical activity is the Metabolic Energy (MET) Method. This is the method we have used for the Fitness Partner Connection's Activity Calculator for 158 different activities.

Thermic Effect of Food: The last component to calculate has to do with your body's management of food. The increase in energy required to digest food is referred to as the thermic effect of food (TEF) and it's simple to determine:

TEF = total kcals consumed x 10%
[i.e., 2,000 kcals consumed/day x 0.10 = 200 kcals expended for TEF]

The Easy Way
If all of those calculations seem too confusing or tedious, you can roughly estimate your daily calorie requirements using this simple formula:

For sedentary people: Weight x 14 = estimated cal/day

For moderately active people: Weight x 17 = estimated cal/day

For active people: Weight x 20 = estimated cal/day

Note: Moderately Active is defined as 3-4 aerobic sessions per week. Active is defined as 5-7 aerobic sessions per week.

...that is if you want to keep your weight.

BTW I weigh 50kg...multiplied with 14 = 700cal.
If I'd go with lbs, I'd need a daily intake of 1540cal. Which seems to me more accurate.

But those people are a minority. I don't doubt that there are many people out there who have trouble staying at a healthy weight for medical reasons, but I doubt that they make up anything like the majority of people who are overweight. I've read more than one paper on obesity in children and all of them concluded that the main reasons were overeating, poor diet and lack of exercise. This fits with what I've observed in my own life as well, all of the overweight people I know well visibly eat more/eat more crappy food/exercise less, than the people I know who are a healthy weight, and the skinny people I know eat less than the healthy people. I know that metabolism and other things affect weight gain/lose and the people I know don't fall onto an exact scale, some that might be expected to be fatter than others based on their diet and exercise habits aren't (I eat a lot more than a friend who is around the same weight and only exercise maybe a little more).  Only one of them claims another reason for her weight (birth control injection) and I believed her at first, until I saw that she ate 6 meals a day and got her boyfriend to do everything for her. Perhaps that's part of the problem in this discussion (ignoring Pescado's comments, since he's deliberately being an arsehole), people who have medical problems relating to weight themselves are probably more inclined to believe that a lot of other people do, while people who haven't met many people with actual thyroid problems or other issues assume that a significant proportion of the people who say they do are lying. I believe everyone here who says that they can't lose weight and that it's not a diet and exercise issue, but that's still a small number of people compared to the people I know who are overweight (or underweight) because of their lifestyles.

That is an obvious contradiction in terms. If you eat "exactly or LESS" food than is required to maintain weight, then you can't be gaining weight. Otherwise, you are eating MORE. That extra mass is not coming from nowhere.

This is utter nonsense, obviously. Like the basic physical laws clearly state, if you're gaining weight, you're running a mass surplus. Basic physical facts. You can't dodge them with any amount of "medical" wrangling. And why would you be hungry if you're, in fact, gaining weight? That's clearly an equipment malfunction, just ignore it.

Or you could give it less, you know. Consider: Vehicles all have different fuel economies. Therefore, some vehicles have to be refueled every X miles or so, while others refuel less often due to improved fuel economy. If you stubbornly ignore this and insist on refuelling anyway, you will find that the tank still has fuel in it, and therefore cannot hold as much fuel. If you put too much fuel in it, it will simply spill. People with "slower" metabolisms are more like energy-efficient vehicles, and therefore, NEED LESS REFUELLING.

I notice all of your values center around constants, a fact we know is not so. Consider, that as mentioned above, if people follow your values, they still gain weight. Clearly, since the laws of the universe have not magically changed, this is clear and empirical proof that your above numbers ARE IN ERROR, and must be revised accordingly. If you get a value of 1500, and trying this value yields a net gain anyway, it means THIS VALUE IS TOO HIGH. Simple.

Yes, except that the first place that loses fuel is in fact the brain.  Without daily carbohydrates (because this is the sole fuel for the brain, and even the slowest burning carb leaves the body in 8 hours) the brain starves, shuts down and starts decreasing in mass.

Not a good idea to have thin thighs if they are attached to a stupid person - otherwise one ends up with a lot more Paris Hilton than is safe.

If there was a single diet solution that worked for everyone, there wouldn't be 40,000 books and companies and pills out there trying to convince people that they work 100%.

Since no one solution has ever been proven to work permanently and without health-related drawbacks for everyone all the time, it's likely that there are no shortcuts to eating less and exercising more.

Well, no shortcuts that don't cause more problems than they resolve.

If you don't care about your health at all, and just want to get skinny, meth would be the perfect solution. Your skin and teeth will rot and fester, your hair will start falling out, your mind will be a mushy soup of addiction and psychosis and you'll start imagining bugs under your skin, your moral compass will go into the toilet as you start to steal, whore and lie to get your fix, but, by God, you'll be thin.

Other fun ways to get thin include wasting diseases like cancer and AIDS, but since death is a likely result, they are contraindicated. No sane person would see contracting a high-fatality-rate disease as a weight-loss solution.

Of course, no sane person would willingly do things like consume live tapeworms or have fat hacked or sucked off their body, but some people do that, too.

If eating less and exercising more aren't possible for whatever reason (or excuse), the next best solution is to be as healthy as you can be, and to come to peace with your own body type. Big-boned tall adult people aren't supposed to wear size 0 jeans.

I've experienced all kinds of different sizes and heights throughout my life. I was shorter than everyone in my age group until high school, when I reached average height. In college, I shot up 3 1/2 inches and am now considered taller than average.

I have tiny bones and a small frame. I wear a size 4 3/4 ring on my larger ring finger, as an example, and my wrists are about six inches around on a "fat" day. I've had 32AA boobs and 36D boobs. I've been 25 pounds overweight and 30 pounds underweight. When I was underweight, I didn't have a car and walked everywhere and was often too busy to take time to eat. Obviously I was eating less and exercising more. When heavier, I was on medications that slowed my metabolism, but I was also exercising less, thanks to the reason I was being medicated in the first place. Nowadays I'm still tall and small-framed, and vary from a few pounds underweight to ten pounds overweight, and it all can be tied to how busy I am at the time. If I'm driving rather than walking everywhere and too busy to cook or plan healthier meals rather than ordering in or hitting the drive-throughs, I'm going to gain weight, especially if I'm on a medication that slows my metabolism, if I am depressed (which, for me, slows my metabolism) or if I skip meals and cause my body to go into "starvation mode" where it thinks it has to hold on to every calorie. Note also that working for commission or for variable hours a week rather than a salary can have an effect: if you're tight on money, cheap food is usually horribly bad for you and usually horribly fattening. Health food stores, organic food and high-quality ingredients cost a mint and usually take more time to prepare. If I have time to go out clubbing or dancing every week and to sit down and eat something home-cooked, I'm going to be underweight. When I say overweight, by the way, I'm talking about my personal acceptable weight range, where my clothes fit me well and I don't stress if the elevator isn't working somewhere. Even at my heaviest, no one ever thought of me as "the fat girl" but that's the gift of having a small frame, because I was indeed a fat girl, to be frank. I dressed to conceal it, and my thin extremities helped, but I knew I was overweight. When it became more of a priority to me than whatever was keeping me too busy to properly maintain my food/exercise ratio, I would, slowly but surely, get down to my normal size, which is not size 0, but a 6-10 pant size. When I was the equivalent of a 0-3, I looked like a Holocaust victim. I'm not meant to be that small, despite my tiny bones/frame, because I am tall and have largish bazooms.

I also have crappy blood-related issues, such as hypoglycaemia, low blood pressure, anaemia, you name it, which means I have to keep an eye on my diet so I don't faint or go into a coma. Fun times! If I ever want to lose weight fast, all I have to do is stop eating meat, sugar, dairy and bread and the weight peels off. Unfortunately, I also faint and get dizzy and have my doctor yell at me and tell me I can NOT be a vegetarian and to cut it out. Pass the steak and pie, thanks.

I'm not saying losing weight is easy-peasy for me, just that I see my weight state as a reflection of my habits at the time. Focusing on weight gain and fretting about it and trying various shortcuts isn't going to make me "thin" overnight. The only time I really worry about being larger or smaller than usual is if it involves buying clothing. If I'm heavier or smaller than usual, I resent buying new clothing, because I will only be able to wear those things when my weight is off-kilter. Buying crap is already complicated enough for women because of vanity sizing, so it's a long drawn-out ordeal that you can't attack by just grabbing a bunch of size X pants in the length and colour you want and knowing they are likely to fit. Also, my legs are right in between tall and regular sizes, and I refuse to wear high-water pants, so even getting length right is a hassle. You also have to hope that the pants won't shrink in the wash or at the dry-cleaner's. In short, I hate shopping.

Right now? I'm at my average weight. Maybe a few pounds more, as I haven't checked the scale for several months and I ate a lot of pizza during midterms. I look okay, my clothes fit, people still look twice when I walk by (in a good way), and it's all okay with me. I'm not skinny (did that, modeled for Hanes hosiery, got no T-shirts, did get 40 pounds of panty hose, woo) and I'm not fat (been there, got off the meds, exercised more, ate less, was patient), and I don't give a crap about trying to compete with people who look anorexic or bond with my Big Beautiful Sisters over fat rolls. I'm in the middle, and where I go from here is 100% dependent on what I do or don't eat, what meds I am on or off of, what time of day I eat, how much exercise I get or don't get, the choices I make when grocery shopping, whether I am depressed at the time or not, whether it's that time of the month or not (yay, water retention and cravings for unhealthy foods), and whether I have been responsible about controlling my blood-related issues through proper responsible diet-watching or not. It doesn't depend one bit on what I'd prefer, or what society as a whole seems to think, or what fashion trend is hot at the moment.

I prefer letting myself eat a doughnut every now and then and accepting the consequences rather than freaking out that I'm a certain number on my scale. (I don't even know if it is accurate, come to think of it.) It doesn't reflect whether the weight is muscle or fat, or whether my pants fit or don't fit.

As long as my pants fit and I don't have to go buy new pants, life is good and to hell with dieting. Did I mention I hate shopping?

And on top of all that, women naturally fluctuate in weight even if you're considered "normal"..  It just seems stupid to me seeing women stress over a few pounds when there are so many people out there that don't even have access to clean water and/or are starving..

Perhaps, but we all deal with our own reality.

Oh, and I heard somewhere that women gain most weight during their periods. So on top of being psychotic one is getting bloated and fat... Huh... Well, gotta admit it's damn gutsy of the people at Always to do their "Have a happy period" ( Put down that Hammer (http://www.deardiary.net/show/diaries/55016/1176508800) )

If you starve yourself, you lose muscles. No body fat. You must do at least sports. But Pescado knows it better than all the doctors and says that one should starve themselves which is fucking ignorant. I'm out of this.

Who said anything about starving? I was simply saying that you should go for a balanced intake rate, which is clearly indicated mathematically by zero net gain. As long as you have a positive net gain, you are clearly over that line. Basic mathematics. Utterly indisputable.

Yeah, I get that anemia thing also. My solution for that is to drink blood. Have you considered that you might be a vampire?

I'm very bloated just before and for the first couple of days of my period. I have bras bought just for then as I go up about one and a half back sizes and one cup size. I don't know how much weight I put on though, I rarely bother to weigh myself.

No, that's one thing I hadn't considered. But given that I am super pale, am awake at night, hiss at the sun, have pointy incisors, am not grossed out by blood in general, wear a lot of black and don't suffer fools gladly, maybe you have a point.

On the other hand, I don't go around biting people. I don't know when they washed their necks last, or where they've been. Cooties are bad. Would also require interaction with other humans, and sometimes I'm just not into that concept. I'm busy, no time for chit-chat.

I think I'll stick with eating a nice, big steak and some spinach when my iron levels drop.  If I had to actually talk to the cow first, I don't know what I'd do. Also, God forbid someone might mistake me for a Goth or something and egg me.

Steaks, not stakes!

OK, I'll add my 2 cents worth, WTH not.

I do believe in the basics of a medical condition contributing to weight gain. How it happens or why, I have no clue. I just know that once my Mom's Thyroid went kaput on her, she gained a lot of weight, yet ate about the same or less because she had no real appetite and way just as active. It began as Hypo and then when she had a stretch of surgeries it has now become Hyper and she could not gain an ounce if you poured maple syrup down her throat (or vice versa. I get my Hypo and Hyper mixed up, but anyway it started as the weight gain and now she looks fragile, frail and tiny). We are big boned, short, stocky people. I am 5,5 and am a few :cough: pounds overweight, but my ideal weight is 150 to 160 because of my build. I feel better if I am around 140 to 150. I'm not ashamed of it, nor am I unhealthy. The doctors say I am as healthy as anyone that might be thinner, I just need to quit smoking. My Mom on the other hand is not healthy in my or her doctor's opinion. Even though now she is the perfect weight for her height, she is not in health weight wise for our build.

I think one thing people around the world need to realize is that even if you eat "healthy" in the US, we put so much crap into our foods and on our fields and into our livestock, that it is literally wrecking our health.

Take for example added hormones in our beef and milk producing cattle. I have no doubt that these added hormones are why our children tend to go into puberty earlier. This causes our systems to age quicker that they normally would. Some of these organs and glands are made for "short term use" so to speak. You figure your pituitary gland is "made" for "use" during your reproductive years. On average say that is 30 years. If it has to "kick in" 5 or 6 years earlier, then it will "kick out" earlier. Some glands and various bodily matter are not "made" to work your entire 75 or 80 years. Some kick in at specific times and then stop when they are not needed. I think these "additives" are what causes a lot of the obesity in children and dysfunctions in adults.

Now I am not saying the additives are the only problem, but I do think they are a contributing factor. I've seen some "study" on this first hand. I try to buy "organic" now, but even that is becoming so that you can't trust it.

I like steaks, too. Alas, spinach doesn't work for me. It's tasty, but indigestable. I find that the iron content of steaks can be improved if you also DRINK THE BLOOD.

You're not actually getting fat, that weight is just water. The solution if it bothers you is just to drink less water, since you're just retaining it anyway. Mostly, I wouldn't worry about it, water weight is harmless and transitory.

Yep, and and arrogant, obnoxious, pompous prick, and obviously far too superior to understand that there ARE medical issues that prevent you from losing weight. It NOT just a matter of "eat less" yes, I put on weight, but have a condition that makes it difficult to lose weight, my body is totally resistant to insulin (hey, Pescado, look that up or PCOS or Cushings Disease sometime), for some people, yeah, its greed but not always. I'm lucky, I have medication which has helped me and I'm ok now, but for some people diagnosis comes too late.

I don't get angry a lot-I'm a very placid person but some of Pescado's idiotic comments are just plain and utter crap. Almost a year ago my mum died-she was very overweight-and everyone put it down to over eating and no exercise, even she did. But, hey guess what, when she was on her death bed turns out she had Cushing's disease which is a tumour which, one of the symptoms of course is rapid weight gain. She died not knowing this, and not knowing that it wasn't her fault she couldn't lose weight.

Foxybaby, I am really and truly sorry about your mom.  I don't know if you accept hugs from strange pirates, but here's one if you do.

Not everybody can lose weight so easily, especially once you reach middle age.  My husband had to go on a special diet of five small (and I mean small) meals a day to lose weight because having three big meals a day was too much for him (the cardiologist had also told him to take walks).

There's usually some sort of middle ground with everything.  I know people who are heavy because they don't go out and burn off the calories they take in.  However, I also know some whose medical issues prevent them from losing normally.

The last two paragraphs were directed at nobody in particular.  Having said that, I'd like to tell Foxybaby again how very sorry I am that she and her family went through what they did (and what Foxy is going through now.  Cushing sucks ass).

There are certainly medical reasons why someone might have a disinclination to lose weight, but once again, falling back on this as an excuse for why they CAN'T simply ignores the laws of physics. Just because it's HARDER doesn't mean it's IMPOSSIBLE. And that which is possible is easy for anyone with willpower. Simple as that. You can't violate conservation of mass no matter how hard you try: This is impossible. Everyone else is a cakewalk. I mean, really: All you have to do is do something less or not at all, and all other factors aside, conservation of mass will take its course. How can this be difficult? It doesn't matter whether your fuel tank has a hole the size of a pin in it, or a hole the size of a baby's head: Leave it alone long enough, and it will be empty.

Tumors have nothing to do with being fat. Tumors are problem with resource misappropriation. The solution is simple: Find the offending growth and remove it.

Eh, see? Now if it were up to me, removing things would be the FIRST thing I'd suggest. If something is there and doesn't belong in the design specs, remove it. If something isn't there and DOES belong in the design specs, replace it. Nothing in that entry indicates that this disease is able to violate conservation of mass. Mostly because that is impossible. You certainly may develop other issues from funny diseases, but weight gain or loss is purely controlled by mass intake, as per the *LAW* of Conservation of Mass.

If that happened, I'd start losing weight immediately on account of being unable to outrun my food. This process would persist until I was again able to outrun my food, thus restoring equilibrium. Kinda self-adjusting like that. Carnivores don't get fat that easily.

I won't let you ruin this Pescado I will tell you what will happen. This is how it will go: You being too big to move will have to have your groceries delivered and food made for you. You will have by that time gotten tired of only having salads and low fat things prepared for you. You will have by then worked out a deal with your next door neighbor's son that you will pay him 10 bucks if he goes to McDonalds and gets you 2 big mac's 2 large fries and a diet coke each day. You, thinking you have won, will continue to grow bigger and bigger until finally they have to cut down one of your walls to get you out of your house and to the doctor. Not knowing what's wrong with you, your doctor will give up and allow you to eat what ever you want. Then, in my mind atleast, you eat so much until you burst.

  I am sooo bored.

It is supposedly a sponge cake (like angel food cake, but not as light) roll thing with a sweet cream filling (so sweet you can almost see the sugar crystals) that has a shelf life of 5,000 years because of all of the preservatives in them.

I won't let you ruin this Pescado I will tell you what will happen. This is how it will go: You being too big to move will have to have your groceries delivered and food made for you.

Heavens, no! That would cost MONEY! Outrageous, I tell you. Why on Earth would I do that? Considering that I've been too cheap to buy food since I was a kid, and hoarded my lunch money instead, because the idea of spending it caused physical pain, I hardly intend to change lifelong habits now.

I can't eat salads. I'm a carnivore, salads are indigestable. Hell, they're indigestable even for other humans. Salads are rabbit food. There is nothing in them that a human can actually eat.

Not instantly though, because you'd just have a carrier with stomach bloated with semi-digested groceries. S/he must be left to ripen somewhere.

They are way too sweet and make my stomache ache. (So does chocolate candy)
At our state fair you can have deep fried twinkies, deep fried snickers, deep fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and deep fried ice cream(I have no idea how they manage that). And I think there's more deep fried stuff you can get too.
They try to batter-dip and fry everything here.

1. This was MY fantasy Pescado therefore it will all happen and YOU will not ruin it.

2. I forgot that you were cheap. I'll have to fix that part.

3. You are quite right salads are not for humans which is the reason why you turned to Mickey D's.

4. YOU GET 2 BURGERS AND 2 LARGE FRIES. Read slower man.

5. Eww you eat rats...

6. Of course I wish and I am in no way, shape, or form PUNY! I may be a peasant right now since I am completely penniless from buying this damn wireless card that I didn't need. I will not however be that way forever!

7. I'm pretty sure it would hurt to starve to death...hunger pains. But then again there's the heart attack from eating so much fat and grease.

Hahaha, we have the same thing in the Southern part of my state. It's frightening.

I've only had the deep-fried ice cream. I can't remember what it tasted like, though;  I think the logic center of my brain shut down while trying to process the concept itself. However, I've never seen the fried Coke, and I'm wondering how many natural laws must be broken in order to produce it.

I also can't stand Twinkies - they taste like spongy chemicals with a filling made from sweetened crayons. I've only seen old people eat them, and I'm assuming this is because, once upon a time, they were actually made from REAL FOOD.

I'll say it: I am fat.

I'll say this: Something is wrong right now and I am losing weight but not in a safe manner. Since I found out that my dad has cancer, I've not been able to eat or sleep like I should and right now I have dropped ten pounds in a week. Every time I do eat, I barf. I smell food, I barf. I'm not preg, that is what having birth control and no sex is for. I live on coffee and Mt. Dew and cigarettes right now. I would like to say that I'm happy about the weight coming off, but this isn't how I want it to happen. I'm real sick of my blood sugar bottoming out and damn near passing out when I stand or try to anything. It sucks. I try to eat and it all returns, and not like Batman, either! This is no fun and I want it to stop. Mainly the only "food" kind of item I can manage is a Wint-O-Green Lifesaver now and then. So, Pescado my friend, I'm not stoking the engine but burning some of my reserves. We'll see where it lands me!

Since I doubt cancer is contagious, you're probably imagining it. Since it's purely imaginary, just stop imagining it if you want it to stop. You might consider getting it looked at, but if they don't find anything, it's probably imaginary and you should just ignore it. I wouldn't worry about it TOO much, though. If you have enough reserves, you'll be fine until you run out.

I know it's not contagious, dear, but stress is a factor. I'm just scared, maybe, not sure. And I ought to have enough reserves for a few months. Here's a tip: People die. Get used to it. At my age, someone I know dies every year or so. If you get this bent out of shape when someone hasn't even died yet, you're not gonna make it this far. It's all about putting the "casual" back in "casualty". On the upside, absolutely nothing is wrong with you there, so your weight loss is perfectly healthy.

You do not wanna do this. I lost 44 pounds 'cause my mother had surgery. I'm skinny now, I used to hate being chubby. But food has not the same taste for me anymore. Now I'm 101 pounds and I have to force myself to eat 'cause I don't want to disappear.

You lost weight from someone ELSE having surgery? That's quite a feat. I wonder why no one has tried to market this as a weight loss scheme.

I would also like to take this opportunity to gloat and point out your two incidents as proof that I was right all along: Notice how nicely it worked: You stopped eating, and lost weight. Conservation of Mass wins again!

I tell you, when a doctor and an engineer disagree on the proper approach, the engineer is right. Engineers gave us the Pyramids, the Hanging Gardens, the Great Wall, the Colossus. Doctors gave us rattles and chanting. Sure, they've managed to peg a few things down that even we engineers see as sensible. But for the most part, nearly everything else they come up with is little better than the rattles and chanting that they displace, only to be displaced by the next generation of rattles and chanting in a few years or so. Whereas the sound principles of engineering that produced the ancient wonders of the world, some of which still stand today, are still used today.

You wanna know why? Because it's dangerous. I lost 44 pounds in a year, I thought it was no big deal cause it was a long year, not a couple of months. But it is a big deal, a lot of doctors I went to said it was.

Ok I'm sorry but this made me laugh out loud. This was actually hilarious and brings back the point that no one can/should take you seriously or the things you say seriously.

I wouldn't ignore something that could possibly KILL someone I love. That's like saying  ignore a guy standing a foot away from you with a gun pointed toward your face getting ready to kill you. Why the hell would she just ignore it? Pescado lay off the crack for a while.

I think she/he lost weight because of the stress of his/her mothers surgery and only YOU would be the one to suggest making money out of other peoples pain and stress.

When you don't eat with the intentions of losing weight, Pessy dear, that's called ANOREXIA. ANOR-EX-IA IS NOT GOOD.

Pescado the pyramids are crumbling. Oh great engineers didn't figure out a way to stop that now did they? And yet doctors have come up with cures for many diseases. Who wins? DOCTORS.

I'm seriously questioning your mental stability. I'm also wondering if you think before you actually type or are the drugs you're taking preventing that? Seriously if you ever decide to become a doctor could you warn me so I can avoid you at all cost?

Anyhow thanks for the laugh :)

I would like to point out that the pyramids are over 4500 years old. I'd like to see a doctor make a person that lasts that long. And they may be crumbling, but not because we can't fix them, but simply because such an act would kinda, you know, ruin the artistic value, and besides, no one would fund that.

Quote from: "RedLove"

I'm seriously questioning your mental stability. I'm also wondering if you think before you actually type or are the drugs you're taking preventing that? Seriously if you ever decide to become a doctor could you warn me so I can avoid you at all cost?

Why would I want to become a doctor? I'm an engineer!

Quote from: "cogitoergosim"
You wanna know why? Because it's dangerous. I lost 44 pounds in a year, I thought it was no big deal cause it was a long year, not a couple of months.

See? You're fine. Those 44 pounds were just surplus fuel anyway, they exist to be used at some point, otherwise they're just wasted mass you're dragging around, which upsets your thrust ratios. That which does not kill you makes you stronger.

Quote from: "cogitoergosim"

But it is a big deal, a lot of doctors I went to said it was.
Sure I'm still alive and I still have my period, but it's a big deal anyway.

The only reason I go to a doctor at all is to snicker when none his dire predictions of how my allegedly self-abusive behavior will quickly cause my death come true. I'm in better condition than he is, and he's half my age. He complains of my impending heart attack. I celebrate by eating a stick of butter in the lobby. Real butter, mind you, not that "Can't believe it's not can't believe it's not butter" shit. This has been going on for over 10 years now. I'm also supposed to have a stroke or a brain hemorrhage or somesuch from my blood pressure. That hasn't happened either. NYAH! I announce my arrival in his office by bellowing, "BEWARE! I LIVE!".

Quote from: "cogitoergosim"

I would also like to take this opportunity to gloat and point out your two incidents as proof that I was right all along: Notice how nicely it worked: You stopped eating, and lost weight.

Well, it doesn't take a Pescado to figure it out. A 6 years old can do the math.

I keep saying that, yes, but for some reason people insist that I'm wrong. Yet you go and prove that I'm right.

A WINNER IS ME! A WINNER IS NOT YOU! HA!

Yeah, I got that a lot from my men, too. Wrap-Around Optimism is what happens when you know what the worst that could happen is and no longer give a shit. At that point, everything becomes win/win. No matter how bad it gets, if I don't give a shit, everything looks good.

One of my mates thinks the same, sorta. Okay, not exactly the same, but you know what I mean. :P He says that pessimism is actually a really optimistic way of living, because if things are bad, they can only get better. ^^ I live by his philosophy. ^^

Why? It's not like big floppy weights dangling from your chest are doing you much good, other than perhaps setting you up for back pain. I'm sure you're just as ugly with smaller ones are you would be as a whale. Probably less so. Fat people tend to be aesthetically displeasing.

I am far too nasty to die. I have every reason to believe I will live forever, or until I piss off enough people and they manage to kill me. Certainly this fits the typical mode of death in my family. Not a single one of us in 15 recorded generations has died of "natural causes". Only violence. It's quite distinctly possible we're immortal. But as I am quite paranoid, this seems unlikely, but I'm doing a defense upgrade just to be on the safe side.

Looking at how much you like to piss people off, I would inscribe axe-murder and any generical violence, as a natural cause, in your case  :D   .

It is? You can have mine then, though I think they must be defective. Unless you consider extra trouble finding bras in your size, them getting in the way during physical exercise and having people talking to your chest, not you face, as superpowers, in which case mine are working perfectly.

I know it's not contagious, dear, but stress is a factor. I'm just scared, maybe, not sure. And I ought to have enough reserves for a few months.

That's true, and it's amazing what stress can do to the body physically, mentally and intellectually.

One of the biggest reactions to a lot of acute stress or to ongoing, constant stress is digestive difficulties.  The body burns sugar and even calories.  To top it off, people get nauseous and/or have the runs while all this is happening.  Not a good combo.

Doctors are seeing more and more how the body reacts to constant stress, and it's not pretty.  When this is happening, some doctors recommend a diet high in vegetables and low in animal fat (I'm not sure why).  I'm not surprised that you don't really feel like eating and you're losing weight - I'm just really sorry at the circumstances that are causing it and what you're going through.

Edited to clarify a point.

Ahh thanks Anne no more Mickey D's for me

Ah rats!

Quote from: "Pirates Like Sapphires"
Oh man! Over here Burger King was shut down because they found a rat in the kitchens. That just brought back BAD memories. (They replaced it w/ some shit place called "Yumm!!" or something stupid like that. They just closed down, too. Nobody ate there. At all. Ever.)

McDonalds Restaurant is an anagram for  -> "Menu: Rats and cold rats." Sure there are other anagrams but that one suits better. :D

A person gets what they pay for so think about this also... in hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies. No strain of rat or mice is naturally obese, so the scientists have to create them. They make these morbidly obese creatures by injecting them with MSG when they are first born. The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates; causing rats (and humans) to become obese. They even have a title for the fat rodents they create: "MSG-Treated Rats".

Now ponder this bit -- many fast food joints that have MSG ingredients are in reality 'test labs' and the "MSG-Treated Rats" that become obese by constantly eating at Mickey D's, Burger King, etc etc are the humans.

Therefore it's all a big experimental conspiracy in diet and diabetes studies. Don't be a lab rat and STAY AWAY!!!
