1  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: BREAKING NEWS: EA FUCKS TSR on: 2010 January 20, 18:41:04
I'm so glad I come here when I need to find out what the heck is going on.  I've had problems with Sims3 ever since the second or third patch, when suddenly the sound kept skipping as I played.  I've spent endless time Googling to see if anyone figured out a fix, but other than disabling extra sound devices (which I don't have), no one had a clue, and six months later it still hasn't been fixed.  And now after the most recent patch my game won't even load at all.  Thanks so much to the link to the old patches.  The only one I want is the one that fixed the fast forward speed problem.  At this point I don't even care if it won't let me install World Adventures without all the updates.  I'm done with these damned patches!!  I'll just play the first game.  Grr.

Wait, so she was all over the place over there because of who she knew?  I always thought her stuff was so fugly, I wondered what the deal was with that.  Recolors from hell, man.

This whole conversation has confirmed to me that I'm really stupid about computers.  I had no inkling about Securom until I cruised in here.  So stupid me, I went and installed my perfectly legally store-bought copy of Bon Voyage without having any clue that there was any secret software attached.  I wondered why my stupid computer keeps telling me that I'm trying to use a "copy" of the disc rather than the original disc (I'm not).  I'm very glad that I'm anal enough to test every DVD that I burn rather than simply putting them away somewhere to watch later.

I hope this issue blows up and forces EA to reconsider using this software in the future.  Secretly slipping us software that affects our computers beyond the scope of their own product seems so unethical to me--how is it legal?

My computer is so weird.  I've had zero problems with Seasons (had more issues with Pets before I upgraded my RAM).  But my graphics card does NOT like Celebration stuff or H&M fashion stuff.  I can't get above an 800x600 resolution with either of those stuff packs installed.  I have a feeling it won't run Bon Voyage.  Time for a new computer; I've upgraded my graphics card twice now.

I think I'm blind after trying to see those screencaps...!

I read the last chapter of an advance copy.  It was satisfying.  That is all.

The only hair I use religiously in game is Nouk, HP, and....a third person whose name I can't remember to save my life.  Shit.  I think the website is Japanese based.  There's only one person on TSR that does a decent job that I've found.  Hair is a very iffy prospect in the game and you gotta stick with the few people who spend the time and effort to do it right.

I've also been very interested in reading about some of the politics behind the FA feature over there.  There are some FAs that were kind of...questionable to me, and then I'd find creations by others who are not featured in any way and would wonder, "What the heck?  This person is so much more talented than so and so!"

My biggest issue with TSR other than the fact that pretty much everything is pay is that their search function is ridiculously obtuse.  Good luck finding something specific!  If you don't want to filter out everything but the FA stuff, you're SOL.

I guess I was pretty naive in using the same username for everything, but live and learn.

What is this texture challenge thing anyways? A thing to see just how many ugly things you can make from on ugly texture?

Thank God somebody else said it; I thought it was my rude cynicism taking over again.  That shit is fugly.  Can we swear here?

Anyway, I had no idea there was so much backstage stuff going on!  Here I was, blithely downloading CC from the few people that I really like and avoiding the 95% of utter shit that's out there.  For a long time I steadfastly refused to pay for anything, but then some of those favorites of mine had "donation" sets that looked so appealing, like the Victorian set over at 4ESF, etc.  So I justified it by thinking to myself that these are individuals who are approaching this like a job, and it's no big deal to support them here and there.  I still refused to pay the big bucks for the obvious hacks who had no right to charge as much as they were (you guys have slammed them all pretty well on this board so you know who I'm pointing at here).

I guess I should have realized that TSR is a big soul sucking corporation and my sub money wasn't actually going to the artists that I liked so much (Windkeeper, Cyclonesue, Cashcraft).  Coming here has been an eye opening experience.  I should've been more suspicious of TSR, and for that I apologize.  But I still have eight months of a year subscription with them...don't hate me.
