Yes, but this doesn't entertain me as much. Where's the "crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women"?

Nice to see another fan.  You should also tell them to contemplate their treatment on "the tree of woe".

I do think that something very oppositional has to be done, as there seems to be little actual discussion about paysites generally. And I do think that most of the rhetoric at the larger sites - particularly the free ones - really makes the new sims fan think that they should shun the practice of critisizing those who charge (I know I did, and have seen many say "oh now I see the light).  Often however, they've already paid for a couple of subscriptions anyway.

And so now for a little bombing Exnem

Probably 12 ness - or even 6 ness.  At least now people will see sfv, and think a little more about it.

2373  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / people on MTS2 are utter morons on: 2007 January 01, 11:08:58
Well, I always get those sorts of jerks telling me those sorts of things because my kids look fine.  One has spina bifida, but can walk (some minor motor control issues but you have to know what you're looking for) and is incontinent, and the other has Aspergers.

I once had my *sister* tell me that people with kids with disabilities are the ones getting punished for past actions, such as adopting a child out.  And quoted the Bible at me about "the sins of the father are visited on the son" - made me read the whole damn Bible so I could dispute fuckheads like her.

I sincerely apologise - I thought that you were cruzer - some of the "12 year olds" (if they are that) come over to scorn some, and I thought you were one.  I didn't understand that you were quoting the jerk, not quoting yourself   .  I've now provided all the links if you look at the thread.

Cruzer/Carly Michelle - you are a true jerk.  I have two disabled children, and if I want to play them in the game, I want to play them in the game how I want.

Maybe you just want a nice happy clean world, where nothing ever goes wrong - and that's your fantasy.  Not all of us live a fantasy, and some people want their game to emulate real life. You have no idea what you're talking about so just shut the fuck up.

Actually, that is categorically not true.

Sorry - I agree with you - merely poor wordage.  Intellectual property doesn't dictate anything about artistic works - that is just copyright, indeed that is where they direct you if you enquire about intellectual property vis a vis artistic works.

The prevailing argument at the moment in the community is not about copyright - which it has been argued that cc cannot retain once it is put into a package file, but rather about intellectual property.  In Australia, therefore, the intellectual property argument holds no water either.

I'm not studying at the moment, but I'm curious - do lecturers/markers/etc accept Wikipedia as a reliable source of reference?

I'm a university tutor, and I tell all my students that Wikipedia is not an authoritative source, and should not be used.  That being said, some idiots still use it, and I have to write comments about it - but they're ickle first years.

as my boyfriend likes to point out to me when i comment on online drama: "you have a bunch of nutjobs all in one place and don't expect anything to happen? just grab some popcorn and enjoy the free show"

Yes, I think at least half the people are nutjobs - possibly the quiet ones are okay - all those lurkers who never say a word.

The thing that always gets me is how different everyone is - I think that's the key to nuttiness - everyone from 12 year olds to oldest multiple of 6 (Pescado rule) and then you have grouchy bastards like Pescado who plays dollies, contrasted with Nouk and Ghanima, contrasted with LyricLee and exnem - these people are all so different, and thus enhances the crazy.
2379  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / How did this come to be? on: 2006 December 29, 20:17:28
The issue about Sims 1 sites is also being discussed here:

http://community.livejournal.com/thesims2/3286144.html

Provides a few nice screenshots of Rose sharing paypal info too - under proof of info sharing.

This entry also shows what happens if you ask outright to sell screenshots, altered from the game.

Maybe someone should email Maxis and ask if they are welcome to sell cc?

As for the blame being placed on Pescado, read the replies further down the page to her hissy fit - and also her defence of her actions.

Hell, the jerk even thinks that Pescado is an Ethopian adoptive child

Sshodan has updated her journal, and is apparently leaving the Sims community.

Of course poor old Pescado gets another kick, but the underwhelming response is   meh...

Well, as far as intellectual property and copyright, according to Australian law, which is where I am, intellectual property recognition doesn't apply to artistic works, and any artistic design work must be copyrighted in order to allow for a legal protection of ones' rights.

Oddly enough, that does not matter.  What matters is where it was copyrighted, not what the copyright law says in Australia.

No, what matters is that in Australia at least, the 'intellectual property' doesn't hold one ounce of water.  As for copyright, under the terms of the Berne convention for international treaties, one must have the exclusive right to publish the works - nobody does until EA says so.

In order to show breach, the site must show that they have had their economic interests damaged as a result of publication, which if the poll about "do you or would you subscribe" is of any interest, shows that it doesn't.

Also note, for creators in general - that they have the right to make the cc rules, and that is recognised:

Quote
Article 12: Authors of literary or artistic works shall enjoy the exclusive right of authorizing adaptations, arrangements and other alterations of their works.

So wonderful creators like the ones who visit here are protected under copyright treaties - ghanima, nouk, liegonsheit (sp?), kathy etc..

Well, as far as intellectual property and copyright, according to Australian law, which is where I am, intellectual property recognition doesn't apply to artistic works, and any artistic design work must be copyrighted in order to allow for a legal protection of ones' rights.

Retaining copyright also allows you to license others to reproduce and modify that work (which is what EA is doing for cc in the EULA).  I would like to see others try to license (a bit like pyramid selling there   )

As for the whole intellectual property argument, it's the same in my field - when I write a journal article, someone else can quote and reference me (if they don't reference me it's plagiarism) but I can't stop anyone from using my work - that's what research is built on.  And I certainly can't stop someone in a library from reading or photocopying my work (under the fair use policy) - there could be millions of copies all over the world of my work, and I can't do anything about it, unless they plagiarise (which just ruins your academic career, and little more).  Nor do I want to do anything about it.

I'm sorry I can't give the whole world wide definition, but I'll try to familiarise myself with international treaties and law.

I think it's great that he's posted there - he's made a giant fool of himself, and made himself out to be a vain selfish prick.

He could merely have logged out, and be watching intently.

As far as the flaming goes, no one has called him names, or done anything but talk honestly about it - there is no flaming whatsoever going on, so even if they complain its pretty hard to justify the deletion of the thread.

My bet is 1-2 hours at most - he's already said goodbye about six times - I think he's waiting for the sheeple to beg him to stay. I say let him wait.

I would also like to curse you for your "pirates life for me" - I've been singing that damn song for 2 days - even since I first clicked on the link
