Angelica (do you mind me calling you Angelica?) I'm sorry you feel that way, I don't like it either and it was only to poke Dunbrine, not everyone with Asperger's. I don't say it, and hopefully others wont. Cheesy

I'm not sure if Asperger's actually causes bad spelling, so I can't really comment.

Holy shit, my faux teenage rant even hurts my eyes.  I had to use a translator for that incomprehensible mess.  Out of curiosity, does anybody know why so many 1's are used in netspeak?

That is on account of silly dumbfucks that forget to hold down that nifty little key marked "shift" that makes up part of the whole keyboard. Really makes you wonder if they're taking typing classes or computer reliant classes at all in the damn schools we pay so much of our tax money for.

As for the insults and such from MATY folk, it isn't for us to say who can and who cannot drift over, Pescado is the master of both boards, and he is also the Lord of the Caturday and such. Don't like it, don't look at it, I guess. Me, I don't mind Caturday so much but then again I have a life that revolves pretty much around my home and family believe it or not, and a break in the daily such and such is always a relief to me.

As for the spaces between my paragraphs on this post, it was brought to my attention that one of my longer rants was difficult to read due to the fact that the motherfucking indents and paragraphs didn't translate over from my word processing program worth a ditch digger's spooge, so I'm trying this out to see if it makes a whit's worth of change for ya'll. If it does, I'll try to keep it. If not, oh well, it's up to me because I'm the one typing it out.

Last but not least, take things with a grain or block of salt. Be willing to pass the blame, the guilt and most importantly, the buck. Joke 'em if they can't take a fuck and carry a heavy shield at all times, because certain folks around this place carry weapons within their words. If you can't find the humour, don't read them. Simple to me. Don't attack unless you're willing to defend. Apologize when you're wrong and don't keep yanking your dick long after the excitement is over, you're just gonna get chafed if you do. Have a nice night and don't forget to trim the claws on your teddy bear, he could be something else in disguise.

The world ain't all sweetness and light, sometimes it's terror in the night. Or waking up to a cat horking a honkin hairball onto your pillow.

Basically, it's where the emotional understanding is at a lower level than the intellectual understanding.  Kids with Aspergers will often not understand other social cues from other kids, and will interpret it wrongly - and react badly.  I say kids, because people with Aspergers can usually, after a lot of hard work, rectify most of the misunderstandings, or learn to err on the side of caution.

People with Aspergers are often focussed on one subject, or one thing - for some it's bird watching, for some it's robotics, for some it's some other thing.  They're great lateral thinkers and will see things from a different viewpoint because their imagination isn't bound in the same way others is.  They're also usually pretty damn good at understanding intellectual stuff, and in particular their favourite subject (birdwatching, types of dirt, robotics etc.).

Some people with Aspergers like to invent things, and there's a woman with Aspergers who, due to being obsessed with horses, revolutionised some sort of feeding trough for them.

I will assume you are speaking to everyone but for my part, I understand and agree with what you are saying.  This "assburger" business is now added to things that irk me but I will tolerate to a point.  I keep my list of pet peeves largely to myself these days and that's fine.  I can be shaking my fist at the screen and you wouldn't even know.  ;p

Even as an adult, for me the finer emotions are difficult to read in the face and body language.  I still can't read my sister when she calls me a bitch if she's joking or not.  It's really easy to fall into being really cynical or being too gullible (trusting)..  it can get better with practice, thankfully, but it's still not the same as those that don't have it.

I know how bad it hurts just trying to type that crap let alone reading it.

And if I'm not mistaken, the 1s orginally came from trying to type !s and in the excitement of the moment releasing the shift key too soon. It then got deliberately exaggerated into the 1s and eventually "one one etc" as a form of making fun of those who used the !!! too much and then eventually it made its way into the juvenile "leet" speak

or something like that.

Pretty much. It just continued the "!!11oneone" that so many started doing.

Those people don't have "Assburgers". There is nothing wrong with them, they are simply destined to be geeks, dorks, and nerds. "Assburgers" is simply a made up label to stigmatize people who have nothing wrong with them, and quickly becomes yet another label to be bandied about, like all the other made-up mental "illnesses" that didn't exist a hundred years ago. Genetic mutation simply does not work fast enough to spontaneously create a endemic condition in totally unrelated people in only two generations. It does not work this way. Therefore, this condition does not really exist and is simply made up.

Aspergers exists, despite what you say Pescado - there may indeed be overdiagnosis, but that doesn't mean that the condition fails to exist.  There is no stigma attached to people with Aspergers at all - they don't need to disclose it, and can easily deal with the world by going under the guise of the geek.  They are also far more obsessed than your average geek.

Genetic mutation doesn't work that fast - but you are suggesting that history was full of proper diagnoses of diseases.  It wasn't - the medical profession has only just had the resources to fully research these things, and society has only just stopped beating the hell out of people to make them conform.

There was no historical CAT scans, yet brain tumours still occurred - they were diagnosed with "demons in the head" and they tried to drill/scoop the demons out with stones.  Left handed people were also trained out of being left handed - this is hardly a society with the resources and will to study the population as is.

So, your grandfather's father may have had Aspergers, but no one diagnosed him and he had three types of hell beaten out of him until he seemed "more normal" - and so it is not recorded - cause no one was looking, they were beating the shit out of him to make him conform.

Asperger's is more than a personality quirk or an artifact of medical overreaching, Pescado.  Try explaining to my 11 year old why he 's bullied at school for not understanding the social cues the other kids give off.  Or why he can memorize facts with amazing speed but can't process them into a meaningful synthesis.

I'm so tired of these Thomas Szazoid paranoid theories about mental illness that should have died out in the '70's.  This stuff is real, evidenced by the facts that it has correlates in the brain, and can be chemically modified.  Or don't you do science, Pes?

Sorry, but this kind of shit infuriates me.  You try dealing with my kids, one of whom has Asperger's and the other who is severely hampered by ADHD, and tell me it isn't real.

No, it didn't just suddenly exist in two generations.  The brain is so amazingly complex that we still don't understand it fully.  You may find this interesting.  Read that section then read the article from the beginning.

Oooo. Brains. My favorite.
*does zombie moan*

Mentall illness is blamed for the stupidest shit. Honestly, people who are truly mentally distrurbed are less likely to announce it to the world than you'd think.
Those who do tell everyone how messed up their minds are are generally attention seekers. Generally, I say! Not everyone.
Our brains are the least known about subject in the scientific world. We use 10% or so, what's going on in the other 90%?
So, yes, mental illnesses are defintely real, but I'd have to say that the majority of the people online in the simming world who throw those illnesses out there are faking or so fucked that they should be medicated and jacketed and shoved into a padded cell.

Ry:  "Faking it or so fucked up they should be jacketed and shoved into a padded cell"?  STFU, really.  You don't know what the hell you are talking about.  It's bullshit like that that made me nervous to admit it in this phorum that I have Asperger's.  It is so integral to who I am though in how I think and why I do what I do that not saying it, it's like a big elephant in the room.  So while Calalily is right when she says I could choose to not disclose it, it doesn't help people understand it either.  It's like how the majority of people do not understand depression at all and say they're depressed when they're really just feeling sad.  It's two completely different things.

Usage of only 10% of our brains is a myth.
