1  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Ea Games...let them do their job! on: 2006 November 29, 18:23:34
My issue with the whole paysite thing is not really the "I want something for free" (though I do) or the striking down of paysites because they are operating in opposition of EA's EULA (which they are and therefore must be destroyed).

My biggest issue is that if I go to the mall to pay for something, then there is a guarantee associated with what I purchased.  I can look at and examine or even try on an item before I buy it.  If I get home and it doesn't work, or in most cases if I just don't like it, I can return it for my money or at minimum an exchange or store credit.

However with paysites, you cannot inspect items before purchasing - most pictures of items are touched up to cover flaws and presented at flattering angles.  Any picture of an object will never truly represent how it will look in-game. But I can't return the item for my money back - even if it is completely defective and grossly misrepresented.

If these paysite owners want to operate in a free trade society, then they can't be facists about the way they conduct business.

it's funny how you can lie to yourself, eh?

For example. My friend buys a box of candies. And shares the candies with me. Cause he's such a good friend, of course.

Now. He paid. I didn't. He got candy. I got candy. All is well. All is good.

I didn't grab the candy box and steal it from him. Life is beautiful. O la la.

And the problem with that logic... your friend's box of chocolates has a fixed number of candies in it.  Whether he shares with you, eats them all himself, or gives them to his girlfriend, once those chocolates are gone, they're gone.  He's not magically duplicating the box so that no matter how many he gives away or eats he's always got a full box of chocolate.

Next.

Your logic works for me.  So shouldn't a creator only get paid for making said item only once?  Instead of magically replicating the same creation and getting paid over and over again for the same exact item?

When retailers get paid for anything, they must provide something tangible for each item they sell.  A shirt, a toy or a box of choclates perhaps...
3  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Carla Niven must be destroyed! on: 2006 November 12, 23:12:18
So I wasted 7 minutes and 17 seconds of my life watching that fashion show.  The least she could have done was turn the plumbobs off.

I'm in no way saying that Rose is f*ing up and violating the TOS - but I'm thinking because they are non-US members, has something to do with the way the sub page is set up.

I know that when I set up my account to accept payments, there was no option to make it require a shipping address or not.  I don't think this is something that Rose did when setting up her Paypal account.  You may be giving her way to much credit -

I think it is just something with Paypal that she is now choosing to exploit.

I use it for ebay, and when I set up the account, there was no way to actually set it up so that it gave a choice if someone wanted to give their shipping info or not.  Though that was to receive payment for good that would have to be shipped.  But, somehow I doubt that the system is set up much differently.  Since you can paypal to receive money for multiple purposes.

I wonder if that has anything to do with her being a "non-verified" member.  Which means that her information has not been certified through a bank account.
