Post by: Soup Parrot on 2007 January 15, 22:26:09
I was on our SC2 thread, and this link was posted there. It goes to page 2 of simplyelau forum (which anyone can view and read)
http://www.simplyelau.it/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8201&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15
They were talking about this site and all. Good read. Unfortunately I dont think it copy good in the post here, better to follow link. Goes from page 2-4.

Heres the main thread at SC2, its about 59 pages, if your new to the site and not sure what my reference was to. Its long read.

Er, I was being honest and what so great about going pay? So you can pay for the bandwidth and costs? MTS2 is free ever since and their paying their bills that are triple the cost of Simply Elau. I do have respect and I don't need anyone telling me I don't. Thanks.

Edit: haha, I got a warning. that's mature. Might as well bann me anyway
Yay Nids Lol

Lmao i love how just as soon as Mommy Elua came on they all were like "sorry mommy we wont talk about this again" Two of the people even admitted they were downloading stuff from the booty. And yet they still think we are wrong? If we are so wrong why the hell are you downloading from this site? Gah. Bastards

I'm with Nids. Nids didn't do anything wrong, yet Elau warns her. And then Elau goes and calls them babies - yeesh. I lost a lot of respect for her.

I joined just to agree with simsfunk; her point seemed very valid, and very true. If she happens to log onto the phorum and see this post - very well put, Emma.

Most the people in the thread sounded like they were very young, kind of impressionable. She (Elau) was like bullying em. If I was nid I'd leave her forum not stay.

I didnt see page 1, the thread starts about this site but on page 1 ELAU says:
Thank you so much guys
and don't worry Juudjuh___x ...

Yes, SIMply elau is not a paysite, not an e-shop, not a profit for me.
We offer many files, hosting, our support and help for free.

I can understand the reasons that makes them act so, maybe yes, some sites make a huge amounts of money selling their donation gifts..
But guys, if we don't like a thing, we can decide to boycott it. I really think that a successful boycott is the best way to hurt something.
Give all the pay-files to the world for free is not the best solution.

I don't know if I have the copyright of my sims creations but what I ask is only a help and the respect of my work.

That people want to share my files? Contact them is useless?
No problem, SIMply elau won't close and maybe other people will appreciate and will support what we do.

Give all the pay-files to the world for free is not the best solution.
She says. Thats because she'd loose money.

BB guns are fun. ^^^ I've had good experiences with them. Namely shooting pellets into BB gel. ^^^

That's what daughters are for. They're supposed to love their mummies. Therefore this little girl (I'm assuming she's female, because son doesn't sound nearly as good) is obviously just looking up to her mummy and trying to enforce mummy's ideals.

What people fail to notice is that when you are buying products from a site (such as a mesh from Pegy) you are purchasing a product.  What you do with that product after you purchas it is up to you.

It's like purchasing cigarettes, they can tell you not to smoke while you're pregnant but how many people do you know that still smoke while preggers?

It's an ITEM and I don't think it's correct that Carla Niven or anyone else for that matter can dictate to me what I do with that item once I purchase it. (not that I'd purchase her useless ugly junk anyway)

btw...I just had to add:

I still can't understand why the concept of natural hair colors hasn't "clicked" with them yet.
I could care less what neon vomit inducing colors they like over there.
Most Asian people I see have lovely black hair, and Rose and Peggy can't even seem to create a decent version of black.

Most Asian people I see have lovely black hair, and Rose and Peggy can't even seem to create a decent version of black.

Not specifically to you, your message was just handy to quote.
I don't especially care- if it bothers me, I just make my own recolor.

But several reasons why this is so:
1. The Sims is out in Asia, so Westerners aren't their only audience.
2. When Asians dye their hair, they have to bleach it first. That gives bright colors instead of natural reds and blondes.
3. Lots of people do like the brights, for anime, cartoon/comic, punk or alien sims.
4. Purple and grey are often used instead of black in anime/manga, because Asians have predominantly black hair. One color for everything is boring, and makes the characters more difficult to tell apart. Note that Rose in particular has lots of anime and game characters on her page- that's what she likes for her sims.
American comics are the same way- if you look at the highlights, Superman's hair is actually blue or sometimes green.
5. Following that, how many people do mouse brown? That's the predominant natural haircolor for Westerners, but you don't see it very often...because it's the most common. Same thing follows.
6. It doesn't seem to have hurt their pay rate, so why should they change?

None of this would be an issue if they'd just freely allow recolors. Hopefully part of the "everyone should share!" bit will evolve into a lack of toterance for people who have a stupidly restrictive ToS.

I don't see the difference between free items and so called "hard worked pay items", they're just the same but a price tag was added to it. That's speaking in general.

And may I say, it's not like Nids and the 'other dude' we're saying that they were downloading Elau stuff. Chill darlings.

It wouldn't bother me nearly as much or probably not at all if they included some decent natural colors too.
Or at least allow others to recolor them.
But I also recolor it when necessary.

8) welcome Zantanna. looks like she took the forum down to, when she found out she had a lot of lurkers(more than one site). She probably deleted the whole thread. Then if that case if its nonexistant, you should have no warning against you. If it was me. I wouldn't want to stay in her forum being how she is. looks like though she has no site or forum group. I dont generally go to her site. I agree with Blue she probably monitors us, so has seen this thread, you really are better off out of there IMHO.

She wont, because she's a "working mother" who has too much "respect" to do that kind of thing. She's an asshole, and if I could knock VIVI out right now I would. Here name makes me think of my vagina.

edit: Oh and I should add that on her forum I said "but I didn't download anything donation from simply elau" Well I hella lied. I download almost everything from simply elau!

I agree with Blue she probably monitors us, so has seen this thread, you really are better off out of there IMHO.

hmmm, maybe. But I'll see how it goes. she hasn't even updated her site in 4 months. She's too stupid

FYI! I am Zatanna from the simplyelau forum. Yes I admitted downloading from here. I do it all the time. The only reason I backed down was because I wanted the warning taken off of my name. So I am sneaky! I think elau is a dumb ass! I agree with nids!

Really sneaky.  Somehow I think if this Elau chick reads the forum, you won't be losing the warning :p

LMAO your screwed. Because i know that atleast some of the paysites owners come in here sometimes. and if she sees a thread with her site name as the title she's going to investigate. I hope you don't care about your account at elua

To do what Zantanna, not following your thoughts here< she'd just ban you thats all from the forum. Her forum is closed, I think it will be down for while. So don't worry about it. It was her problem anyway, I think at the beginning here, I posted a comment made from the first page. well if she didn't consider herself a paysite, why'd she get all in huff, and close down. I mean it kind of reminds me of Sshodan getting bent out of shape cause someone converted her guy hair to women, so she was going to pull all her stuff and punish everyone. Except they don't get it! Theres lots of people that love to create stuff, new people, that are not always egocentric, that may be better than them at creating and do it just for fun.

I haven't read all the thread, but I think Zantanna acts very strange (http://forum.jungle.ee/style_emoticons/default/buttlick.gif). In my mind this kind of behavior is not very smart.
Concerning Elau - I really like her forum :) There are so many funny people there :) Especially in "your works" section :) If you're uploading a total crap, they are still saying that it is wonderful and that they are going to download it right now, but the download counter is still showing zero  And some people upload wrong files, but no one will tell them, that the file is not showing up in the game :)
About Elau's donation files I can only say, that I don't think that they are worth paying. No, I don't say, that they are crappy or something, but they are really average.

And then you have to ask them if you can upload a RECOLOR of a file you PAID for I mean come on. It doesn't really make sense I mean: I bought it. So now its mine. They get all pissy and whiny when you make a better recolor of their shitty hair. They should be greatful anybody even wants to recolor the hair

I wonder if we could post better recolours of hair when the new site comes up, or even just fixes of the current ones?

Seconded!

Fixing the hair and making better recolours would be wonderful!
I mean, she made the hair, so nobody can fix it (the colour or mesh) but since she refuses to do it, nobody can. WTF?!?!

I hope so. I love red hair -- not RED red, or even PINK red, but red. As in auburn, or deeper -- even a bit bottle red, but not NEON GLARING PINK/RED.

Same goes for brown, blonde (oh god, PLEASE get rid of the YELLOW), and black.

I third Rage's comment.

It doesn't look like server problems they had lately.
It looks like "if you don't want my pay files, then you won't get anything from me". But Elau is a grownup and I hope she won't act like a little girl.  I really hope she has some serious reason to close her site.
But if it is because of the discussion of pay files, then the big disrespect goes to Elau  :?

Woot! Thirdage! I can't mesh at all, but I can do very basic recolours, so if there was a place to put them, I'd be willing to tone them down, if someone would fix the mesh.

And as regards Elau, to me it seems a little too much of a coincidence that she gets huffy over the Unspeakable Evilness, and then her site mysteriously goes down. She's doing a Changeri, if you ask me.

Some of the sheep mentioned this site and that they downloaded from it occasionally. Mommy elua came in and fussed at them for downloading. So like the good little children they are they said "yes mommy." Nids spoke against Elua and received a warning. One of the sheep Mods then proceeded to argue with nids. (p.s we like nids xD) I refered to Elua as "Mommy" and the sheep as her "CHilluns" and everyone just kind of went with it xD So yea thats it. And oh yea Elua took the forum down. You know she cant have her chilluns disobeying her or thinking now don't you? :D

oook  here's what I think

Personally, I dislike any custom content that's pay. Not because I can't pay but I just don't see any reason to make gorgeous stuff donation "gifts". I'm in favor of free sites. I understand that sites have expenses but the economical problem can be solved by asking for donations without any 'gifts'. Sometimes it's necessary(sp??) though  that's totally apprehensible by me

TSR...
I hate this site. Just purely hate it. I don't understand the FA thing; stuff that was previously free can be pay because the 'artist' is now featured. It's totally pathetic  Anything FA make is pay. And hell some stuff is awesome but other...

Peggy. Tis a HUGE site & the donation gifts are good to be there. A lot of decent free hair meshes as well  Just too many pay

Rose... Ah, in my opinion she hasn't uploaded any hair of my liking in the free area for ages. It has become a pay site! The verb 'contribute' doesn't mean PAY, does it? There are other ways of contribution you know

And I don't understand the 'help us stay free' written in sites that the pay stuff is way more the free. Show some pity

And yet she found it necessary to argue with Nids over whether she was right and stick up for Mommy Elau
*edited bcs I was too dumb to realize one must be registered to read Vivi's comment

Oh, Miguel, I hope you don't shut down!! I, like Will, love PinkPoisonLemons VERY much (partially because the first story I wrote that was a huge success was called Pink Poison, and when I discovered this site I was like, oh my goddess this HAS to be my theme site! ^^ ). It has many very good outfits and I use them in my game a lot. I'm very glad you're opposed to paysites though. ^^
I'm using a Yahoo!Briefcase to host my files. Maybe you could do that? I don't think you need a Yahoo! account to download them, and even if you did it's not hard to get one. Yahoo! accounts are permanent after all; they don't run out like hotmail ones. Plus some of your links don't lead to files *cry* and I'd love to get some of the stuff I can't download...

Don't frett, if you need somewhere to host your files someone will come through for you.  You can use my old server if nothing else.  Its free and it's mine indefinatly, plus I'm not using it anymore and it's got lots o space.  I'll offer it as a last resort because you will find that the address name is long and bothersome to type.  Not a big deal if it's only to host your clothing files though.

Miguel, I'm sure you'd be an amazing addition to Nouk's site or Dour.  Your creations are quite popular here and elsewhere and they are much better than Carla Niven's of course *wink*  Not everyone here has "chosen sides" I think what you run into is the fact that most people are sick and tired of crappy-ass sites asking for donations for reasons other than to keep themselves running (take OpenHouseJack for example *shudder* and I'm NOT going to post the link to that 'cause it's NASTY - just don't d/l any of his stuff unless you LIKE funding purchases of dirty jock straps off ebay).  It was just awfully coincidental that the moment someone pointed out her donations were offered for free and she called Nids a "baby" and then both Nids and Vivi descended into a cat-fight that she shut down her site.  Stating it's because she's no longer interested in Sims doesn't really fly.

Miguel sweetie, you're getting a big kiss next time I see you :D

I happened to read this... and I'm not mad or angry or anything for the things that have been said about me or lau or the site. Yes I DO hate paysites. Paysites like peggy or rose or tsr. Not paysites with a small amount of donation gifts. And I understand it when sometimes they're required. Someone once asked me if I was going to make any donation packs. Do you know what I replied? You can probably imagine.

I know this topic is pretty much done with now, but I have to admit, I can't quite believe how much Elau overreacted to the news of this site... and I really can't believe she hadn't heard of you all before now! But she turned on her friends very quickly, so in my opinion, better off without.

And I missed all the drama, oh, well. Plus, I realize only now that Elau is an italian site  . I really have lived under a rock or something.
Anyway, I'm gonna email her (writing in my own language is kinda relaxing, you know).

Yeah, my grandma in almost 90, and she is incredibly immature. It makes life hard sometimes, when you feel that you have to respect her for her age, but you cannot because the way she acts. :(

Dont want to scare you kidders but heres a preview:
35 is the turning point..hard to stay up all night
grey hair  one or two, maybe a wrinkle or two

42 more of the above
except now you have gravity issues
than theres your eyes they start going

One thing is perceptions change big time. When you were say 18 even 24 was old. When you hit your 40s anyone under 21 kid. I remember when President Clinton was in office lol I thought oh he's not that old. Old for me would be 72 and up.

Hope that made sense.

That's really true, IME. Some of the sharpest, most with-it people I know are older than my mother. On the other hand, you want really, truly old? Go volunteer in a nursing home that has a high proportion of dementia patients. That'll quickly teach you what old really is.

Knitting doesn't work as a proof of agedness anymore as it's exceedingly trendy amongst college students and the young art crowd.

I'm 18 for 5 more months, then I get to be 24. It's very exciting, ima be a proper grownup!

But it's almost scary. One of my friends has a new girlfriend, who is actually 18, and the first time I met her, I was cheerfully chatting away about the early 90s, interspersed with the occasional 'holy shit, was that really 15 years ago?' and I got quite the poking from my friend for embarrassing his new girlfriend, and making her feel like a baby and him a cradle-snatcher. It was great.

Those little knome yard guys and the flamingo yard deco, you guys must go to the garden center in real life much. Though these you more find in over decorated yards, mostly older folks, that have his huge ugly collection, which is a neighbohood eyesore here in America. If they are stolen more like a tormented neighbor worried about declining property value. 8)

*sigh* I KNOW what gnomes are.  I meant the specific gnomes Nids was referring to, and trolls in the style of Vultard et al.  (i.e. people that "troll" a forum...)

The garden gnome thing seems to originate in Finland (or so claim the Finns I've talked to). Their fairies are traditionally little people with high peaked caps... gnomes! The garden gnomes I've seen here are pretty cute, usually carved out of wood and carefully painted.

My mother's got this book about gnomes (http://www.amazon.com/Gnomes-Wil-Huygen/dp/0810909650/ref=pd_sim_b_1/104-9574881-7862367). I always found it terribly creepy, for some reason...

The gnomes here in America are cheap plastic or badly painted stone affairs that most people would love nothing more than to blow up.

I remember there was an episode of "Goosebumps"(when the book was made into a television series) in which the gnomes came to life.
Still wasn't as good as "Are You Afraid of the Dark?"

I remember the Goosebumps computer game, Escape from Horrorland, my cousin had it, we whiled away a couple of long summer days playing it in a darkened room, and in an isolated case of mass hysteria, scaring ourselves shitless...My cousin, who is a few years younger than me, spent a lot of time screaming and cowering on the floor under my legs, the first time we played it...

I never knew there was a Goosebumps game.
The only game I've ever really played is Sims.
I tried to play Kingdom Hearts and hated it after maybe an hour.
Probably cause I sucked at it and thought it was corny.

Thing with the Goosebumps game was, my cousin and I tended to get seriously absorbed in games when we were younger...

As for the gnomes, that one in middle bakground, with the red trousers, is trying to look up my skirt, and I don't trust his nose. Bloody bearded miniature perverts.

Gnomes are evil. They kind of remind me of the movie "Children of the corn" (don't ask, if you do I can't garentee you'll understand)

 Meanie! But I'm pretty much the same. I love kids until they turn about 5 then I'm through with them until they turn 15(or are mature and don't act like those annoying little kids that play dumb ass jokes and then laugh when nobody else is laughing )

The newborns are adorable.
But beginning at 6 months, they're just awful little hell spawns.
First they don't stop crying.
Then if you teach them to talk, they don't stop begging.

Well my little cousin she's about 1 and a half. I love that little girl to death. She can talk a little but she's not annoying at all. She's pretty much willing to do whatever you do. She's even down with taking naps when I want her too. I mean what more can you ask for

Thats why my husband and I have a dog.

And I don't even like that dog.  lol.  All he ever does is put his nasty nose on the soles of my feet when I cross my legs. Grrr.  Eats my nice things, and ruined the carpet.  It's like having a child really, except when they die after 10 years no one asks any embarassing questions.

"what do you mean you put Billy down?!"

*edited to clarify that I don't like the DOG, I adore my husband. :D

I have a niece, she never cried unless she's hungry or her nappy needed a change.   I guess it's because she was the first child of my sister, and she was surrounded by adults all the time.  I don't think I ever saw her speak baby talk; she always tried her best to speak like an adult.  I had doubts about her; I thought she's weird for being so quiet.  She even bit me when I tried spoon feeding her when she was a toddler, apparently she liked to hold the spoon herself.    The second baby is a different story though.  He is quite an irritating bugger, I was with them in an almost two hour flight, he cried all the way to the airport and until we arrived in our relative's house.
I was about ready to throw him out of the car window, just to keep my sanity.  The niece I was talking about, she's exactly like Homer Wells of the cider house rules novel.  You know, how the family who adopted him thought it strange that he never cried.   Still, I prefer my noisy nephew who cries about everything rather than his sister who was so quiet that my brother-in-law would check on her every couple of hours if she's still breathing because it was just too eerie.

Garden gnomes are most emphatetically not from Finland!!!!
Yes, our traditional faeries (singular: tonttu, plural: tontut) do indeed look like garden gnomes, but it's just a coincidence. :)

The plastic/whatever gnomes you put in your garden are an abomination and should be a capital offence!!! :x

Those dreadful things have tried invading Finland several times, but luckily they have been repelled each and every time.

I think garden gnomes originate from central Europe, perhaps Germany. The Germans seem to love the little buggers.  :)

That sounds like me when I was a kid. I never cried, I never whinged, and I grew up too quickly coz I was never around kids. I get on much better with adults. Except the ones I meet IRL don't have the same interests as me...

In England we have a Gnome Liberation Front - they disappear in the middle of the night and then their previous 'owners' receive pictures of them enjoying themselves on the Riviera or something.

That makes me think of that movie Amelie where she stole her dad's gnome and kept taking photos of him in different places and eventually her dad decides to travel the world.

I love that movie, I wish I knew where it went *cry*

Best chick flick ever  :D

I loved it too!  I liked how she called up the sex shop and then hung up on them.  When her friend asked her about it she said "we don't have anything in common."  At least, thats what my subs told me.

Huh - they must have pinched the idea for the film then - the GLF has been going for years and years.  I've never seen Amelie - too sappy for me, even the music makes me cringe.  Odd really because I like Audrey Tautou as an actress (it is Audrey Tautou isn't it?) - she's done some very good films.
